Plus he doesn’t really get hit much so it’s not like it even matters. I can 100% see max stopping ilia within 3. Maybe even 2 lol. That would be impressive tbh. But yeah ilia is great and all but other then volk he hasn’t really proven that he’s all that talented. His most impressive wins before getting a title shot were emmet and Bryce lol. If Max beats Gaethje he should 100% take the 55 title fight because if he drops back down to 45 he might lose that shot but as long as Volk doesn't have the belt Max will always have a shot at 45 available to him, the issue is it might not be available to him straight away if he loses. The is the one situation where UFC FW div could benefit from a Bellator style tournament. One way it could kinda happen is if Aljo beats the brakes off of Kattar, then fights either Max, Ortega or Movsar while the other two fight each other. Winners fight for #1 contender to face winner of Ilia/Volk rematch.

He was a dominant champ, did everything anyone in the UFC asked for, they owe him the first shot at getting that belt back. If he loses, cool, have max or whoever tf else you want. If Max beats Gaethje he should 100% take the 55 title fight because if he drops back down to 45 he might lose that shot but as long as Volk doesn't have the belt Max will always have a shot at 45 available to him, the issue is it might not be available to him straight away if he loses. Either way bad move by Max Ilia is infinitely more beatable for him that Islam is imo
