  • I love how both parents are teaching their son two languages and this is exactly how to do it. One speaks and the other repeats in the other language. A real Mom and Dad dream team here. Those children are very lucky. Thank-you for sharing this. ❤

    • No, that isn’t “exactly” how to do it. Of course bilingualism is the greatest gift parents can give a child beyond the essentials (love, food, shelter &c.) but whilst it does no harm to translate things in that way, it’s not useful either. Each parent just needs to speak to the child in a different language and decline to understand when the child speaks to them in the other one. (I am a language teacher and have lived in many countries as a non-native speaker, and thus have also known many families where at least one parent came from outside the country.

    • I wonder how they are now? Jealousy. When he was hitting the pillow in the baby was sleeping that was a red flag. And then at one point he had a closed fist when he went near his sister. It's been just him getting all the attention. His first reaction was nice but I don't think it was going to last. The kid is probably a monster 👹 that can do no wrong. I wouldn't leave him alone with her.

  • I had my daughter last September and they wouldn't let my son come to the hospital (I spent the whole of our 3rd day there crying!) but when we got home he had a very similar reaction. This made me tear up remembering it. She just turned a year old on Thursday and he still comes looking for her first thing when he wakes up

    • it's so wrong they aren't letting siblings come to the hospital, it's such an important moment for a family and for siblings

    • @@deidredonovan3864 yup, it is. A lot of people here are very unhappy about it and are pretty sure they're keeping it up because they're understaffed and no other reasons. I actually had our 3rd child in November and we STILL were not allowed to bring our children in. And since we didn't have childcare past the first night I was all by myself until I went home =/

    • ya that's ridiuclous. I understand I live in NYC, they have said these policies are sticking around forever. I am so sorry you were alone in the hospital I have experienced that before too and it was pretty traumatizing. I just had my fifth and we opted for a homebirth (my 4th was born in the car on the way to the hospital so it wasn't cause of the policies) but I have to say not having to deal with this sibling stuff or laboring in a mask was a nice perk.
