  • Thanks for the clarification about what is recommended. My Pom is 4yo and has only had her tush trimmed to facilitate keeping the area clean and of course her nails trimmed too. She has beautiful fur that is thick and shiny. The groomer wanted to do the teddy bear cut on her but I had read that it might ruin her coat so I have only had her trimmed as I described. Thank you again for the videos. I just love and appreciate the information you share!

    • You are very welcome! I am so glad you like my videos. I love the fluffy furball look of a natural Pom. Mine are way overdue for a professional groom. Duke and Moxie though are not hug fans of strangers brushing them.

  • My daughter is a groomer and she does a modify teddy bear cut my her sister's Pom. She doesn't shave it down she lightly uses a guard comb around the body and then finished off with scissors. This method prevents the coat damage. She, also, stands by using remoisturizing conditioner as part of the bathing process. She says it helps with day to day, or dryout damage done to the coat.

    • Thank you for sharing. It's so important to find a great groomer like your daughter that can trim up a Pomeranian without any damage. I need to pick up a great remoisturizing conditioner for my dogs. Their coats are all very different with a couple of them being prone to mats due to their extremely dense undercoats. My dogs always look their best after a trip to the groomer.

    • @@allaboutpoms To up keep your Poms my daughter suggests to brushing with a a soft slicker brush ( try to find one that has slightly stiff and bendable bristles) or close bristle pin brush and then follow it with a coarse fine greyhound comb. This should eliminate the matting problem.

    • @@user-pd5hd2zw5b Thank you so much. I am going to try that. We bought one comb that was horrible it basically just tugged at the mats until they would be pulled out. It was a waste of money. I tried it once and realized it would just hurt them.

  • Most of these cuts can and are done with scissors. You can still get all the other cuts so long as they are not shaved and scissors are only used. There’s nothing wrong with wanting shorter fur since poms are indoor laps dogs and serve no other purpose than companionship.

    • Yes, as long as the undercoat isn't cut you are ok. The most important part is finding a groomer you can trust and communicating what you want and do not want done. Unfortunately, many people see very cute Poms that are shaved when they really shouldn't be shaving them. Thanks for your comment.

  • How do you restrain a pom that has a collapsing trachea? It was recommended by my vet that a choke collar never be used on my pom. This is the reason I never take him to a groomer. And he gives me such a hard time when it's time to brush/trim.

    @Bumula1@Bumula118 күн бұрын
    • Only use a harness with your fluffy friend. You can restrain a Pom pretty well with that. For brushing you can put him in the harness on a leash so he can't run away and start brushing him in small doses. He may slowly get used to it. I have my vet trim my dogs nails when I go in. I made the mistake of not getting the used to me doing it. It's tough with a groomer. I know some may use harnesses or a hammock to restrain. I would check with them and see if it looks like it won't be putting pressure on your dogs neck. If they don't give you that information or let them look, go elsewhere. I great groomer that knows what you are concerned with will be willing to help you. It's possible to retrain a dog without putting your dogs trachea at risk, just be careful because the damage can be very serious. I hope that helps. Sara

  • with their natural hair do Poms need sweaters? cute stuff is cute but do they need sweaters for winter?

    @shannonkiehn9337@shannonkiehn9337Ай бұрын
    • Usually they don't need sweaters but, depending on the climate one may be good. I would also watch their feet if you live in a cold climate with ice and snow. Ice melt can be very toxic. Some poms may be ok with wearing shoes in the winter. Depending on the dog of course.

  • So, these are just things not to do to Pomeranians?

    @audited4073@audited40737 ай бұрын
    • Most of them are popular cuts that you shouldn't do with your Pom but, the show trim is recommended. Cleaning up and shaping a Pomeranians coat is ok but, anything that cuts into the undercoat could damage the coats coat. I hope this helps.

    • Right and a small slight to get a different breed if you don't want your pom to look "like a pom"
