At the beginning of the week as soon as I watched an episode of this where the dogs bark, it would set her off barking. Today she stayed in her bed and didn't react one bit! So proud of her ❤️

  • I had a wonderful Pomeranian who was a lot like Peanut. He was totally attached to me, and he suffered mightily when I went out without him. He was a terrific and very intelligent watchdog, but he barked at everything - even at a fly. Fortunately his barking was not as high pitched as Peanut's barking. He was 16 years old when he died two years ago. I did not want to have another dog anytime soon - but then I found a 12 weeks old puppy which I called Peanut because she was so tiny 😀 Peanut is a very beautiful Pomchi - a Pomeranian/Chihuahua mix. I could not resist because she looked so much like my late Pomeranian, although she turned out to be a bit smaller and more delicate. I took her home one week before Chrismas and I had to go out frequently without Peanut. Therefore I started to train her to be left alone as soon as I had taken her into our appartment. It was a bit of a crash course, but since she was still so young, she learned very quickly, and today there is no problem whatsoever to leave her alone as long as she is in a safe room or her crate. My training was very simple. I started to leave her alone for at firt just a few minutes in a puppy safe space which I had established in the kitchen. I always said "Peanut, stay!" and then I went out of the kitchen. I came back after a couple of minutes, and then I gradually increased the time of my absence. Peanut learned very quickly that I would always come back, and therefore she never developed separation anxiety. I was able to leave her alone after just two days of intense training! This made my life as a dog owner so much easier!

    • +Rae Lei-I do love how Peanut, once he realized his "mom" was ignoring him, went to the next person in the room and demanded he get attention in some way. And he got super confused when both of them were ignoring them. Like dang it, I'm cute and I know, why you not giving me love? I don't think Peanut was a bad dog at all. Just a spoiled one. He knew how to turn the charm on and he knew what he had to do to get what he wanted. So when they shut down and showed that his behavior wasn't going to be tolerated anymore, he was quick to figure it out, okay, so this is not okay for me to do. I get much more praise and love if I listen to them. Because he did really love his owners very much and was a very friendly dog. Once he figured out that when he was quiet, Victoria was willing to play with him, he was very happy that she was playing with him. It really was just a simple correction on his behavior and letting him know gently that what he was doing wasn't acceptable and he was willing and happy to make it better.

    • +Boots-Yeah, that's the strut of a very confident dog. A dog's "I'm awesome and I know it" walk. To be fair, Peanut was really not that bad of a dog. He was actually very sweet. Just spoiled and he knew it. And with a dog as precious and cute and heartmelting as he is, you drip like a puddle. It's easy to see how and why he got spoiled. He wasn't mean or vicious, and given how he was willing to play with Victoria, very, very sweet, he just was very bossy and demanding. And he absolutely knew how to get what he wanted. He was a very smart dog and he took to the training like a champ. He just needed a clearer sense of boundaries and understanding his behavior wasn't acceptable or tolerated. And he got the point fairly quick.
