SCP 096 is a humanoid creature measuring approximately 2.38 meters in height. Subject shows very little muscle mass, with preliminary analysis of body mass suggesting mild malnutrition.
SCP096 is normally extremely docile, with pressure sensors inside its cell indicating it spends most of the day pacing by the eastern wall. However, when someone views SCP-096's face, whether it be directly, via video recording, or even a photograph, it will enter a stage of considerable emotional distress. SCP-096 will cover its face with its hands and begin screaming, crying, and babbling incoherently. Approximately one (1) to two (2) minutes after the first viewing, SCP-096 will begin running to the person who viewed its face.

I knew SCP-096 was an psychologically tormented man, but I never expected him to kill people because he hallucinates his surroundings as the mountain he was on and the people who see him as the entity that ruined his life which was SCP-1529: King of the Mountain.

SCP 096 is one of my favorite SCPS, and now that I know his origin, I feel sorry for him, its not his fault he's a monster
I thought I'd see the story of how the SCP found the Shy Guy but instead I just witnessed one of the best origins stories. Implying that the King of the Mountain is the reason of the Shy Guy's existence is just incredible
There actually is a really good... Well they call it a "movie" but it's like 20-30 minutes, it's not about when they found 096 it's about one of the incidents when it breaks containment. It's one of the more notable instances of 096 escaping and if you like seeing 096 stuff I'd highly recommend it. I enjoyed it greatly.

I honestly just feel sorry for the creature. When photographed by the Desire Camera. The picture that came out was of 096's cell but with the creature nowhere to be seen. It seems all the creature wants is just to disappear. To no longer exist. Poor thing.

096 (or Sheldon as I like to call him. Shy Guy - Sh eldon) is terrifying, but I'd also want to comfort him. Maybe if I kept my eyes shut, and blindfolded (just in case), and give him a hug? This origin story is far darker than another one I've heard; a child who has a strangely shaped head being bullied, and eventually running away seeking absolute solitude.
Shy Guy has to be one of the most tragic anomalies ever. Sure Shy Guy might look and be scary, though it’s a depressing thought of why he’s like this, why he dislikes anyone looking at his face, there’s just so many unanswered questions to Shy Guy’s origin

the part about the dead bodies used as markers is true. it's too dangerous to bring the bodies down the mountain so they sit where they died.

No, it's not canon. The origin of the Shy Guy was deliberately vague, yet there's only a few things we do know. It seems his natural habitat is in the Himalayas, as when he's calmed down from a rampage he'll attempt to wander back home after a few hours. Who he is (if he was indeed human to begin with) is unknown.

At first I thought that the red ring around people that look at you while you are playing as 096 in SCP:SL was to track them, because of 096’s ability to know exactly where someone who looked at it is, but i think it makes more sense that it knows this out of hatred towards the King, wanting to ruthlessly hunt down anyone that looked at it with those orange glowing eyes that it hallucinated and thought were there in place of the person’s actual eyes

That doesn't explain why he attacks even if someone simply sees an image of him from far away. Also, it feels more like he's sobbing because he doesn't want to kill, but is in a total lack of self-control, making him cry after he killed those he didn't want to kill...

I think the reason why it cries after killing is because of the stress of someone seeing its face.
Also, SCP-1529 doesn't have all those god-like powers that were shown in the video. Just read the original article for SCP-1529, blud got punched in the face by a non-anomalous human, shattering its goggles, and was then recovering for weeks, there's no way in hell he could defeat the Shy Guy, let alone create it.

I love that this story makes Everest such an epic place again. Mt Everest has been RUINED for me because of the sheer number of garbage and trash that is left on the top of the mountain. Because of how popular a tourist attraction it is, hundreds of people climb parts of that mountain every year. The climb up to the mountain takes a lot of materials, and most people are unwilling to carry all of their bags of trash back down to the bottom of the mountain. You get fined for leaving trash up there, but most people just budget for the fine so they can purposefully leave trash behind........ I don't blame the locals for hating these tourists at all.

He's not that powerful really. Read the original article, SCP-1529 got punched in the goggles by some random Joe and was recovering from it for weeks. Also, he's not dumb, he wouldn't create himself an enemy orders of magnitude more powerful than himself.

The origin story, though cool (pun intended), makes it seem that you have to directly look at the creature itself for it to activate. However, it can and "has" escaped containment after someone had looked at a picture of it. I doubt mental torture would give anyone the ability to know when someone is looking at them via a picture, let alone find out where they are in the world.

Good thing for us viewers, seeing an artist depiction of 096 doesn't set 096 off. It makes the Tattoo-Artist D-Class sacrifice in drawing 096 face worth it since we can know what 096 looks like without being hunted down by 096. Sadly the sacrifice part came from the fact the D-Class had to look at 096's face before drawing it. At least it was done in a way no one else had to see 096's face and become it's victim as well. Unlike a certain incident Dr. Dan and Dr. Aleksi put together.
This would also explain why 096 goes into a terror state when met with a being he can't harm or kill, maybe it thinks it is meeting the king of the mountain again.
That was a really good origin story for SCP 096, I always headcanoned that he was a leftover from the Seventh Occult War, some poor soul who was experimented on by the Obskuracorps and turned into SCP-096. This one's really good though, would've never imagined he could be tied to SCP-1529 so well

He has a deep trauma from what the king of the mountain put him through while the entire time the king would just stare at him. Tired of this, he doesn’t want to experience such a thing anymore and so he kills anyone who sees his face. Because their gaze reminds him of how the king of the mountain looked at him, the same being that caused him so much pain.

This was truly an amazing origin story on SCP-096. Hold up the King of the Mountain can talk and what is he now. Also 096 might have been the first to not fall for the effects the Mountain King brings.

He's not the first one. In the original article, SCP-1529 was punched in the goggles by a non-anomalous human. It would stand no chance against SCP-096, which is one of the reasons why this story doesn't make sense. If I was in that guy's place, I would have used my infinite strength that SCP-1529 gave me (it can't even do that in the first place, read the original article) to annihilate it, and then come down and, I don't know, become an MMA fighter, cause no one could ever beat me.
Wow! This is amazing, love how Dr. Bob gave the shy guy depth, what an amazing backstory. Although his story started off with him being smug and over confident in his abilities, it's sad in the end cos he didn't just pay for his arrogance so many other people did and probably still will.
as long as the SCP foundation is around they'll make sure that no one else gets killed by 096

I saw a theory some weeks ago, and it is the same exact thing but only in which the traveler activates a defense mechanism every time the king of the mountain looks at him. I am so glad that it makes sense now.

@@Nightraven4321 you just have to fill in the gaps. his bones are indestructible because the mountain king wants him to never break so that he can keep climbing he has unnatural strength so he can still have power to climb the mountain even when he has little to no energy he kills people because he feels the same stare the mountain king brought upon him, which causes him to rage. the only way in his mind is to erase every single speck of them. he knows where people are because he can feel their stare and so goes towards the source.
