I've been playing the game for nearly four years and I still watched since this was so good
I know I'm two years too late for this, but I have over a thousand hours in this game, and I just want to tell whoever reads this my favourite story while playing it: I was doing a Scotland run. My old king died, leaving his son, King Shawn II, to rule. When he took the throne, he was 17, already had two children, only one of which was legitimate, and had two lovers besides his wife. Wanting to roleplay, I of course picked the Seduction focus... And then things spiraled out of control. King Shawn II lived to the ripe old age of 98 (I was hoping he would crack 100, but sadly he didn't), left behind 29 children (not including 3 that died, and the at least 10 that counted as someone else's because the "father" didn't realize he was being cucked), most of whom were not technically legitimate, but I decided to legitimise them all...When King Shawn acquired the Lunatic trait, because of course he did. Throughout his storied life, King Shawn had 2 wives, the first of whom died when the king was just 27, and the second of whom they stayed together with for the rest of their lives (incredibly, said wife had a positive opinion of King Shawn for almost the whole time). King Shawn had many lovers at various points (I didn't count them because they kind of came and went, but there were definitely more than 25), including, but not limited to: 1: His eldest son's wife 2: The queen (as in wife to the ruling king) of England 3: The queen (as in ruler, younger sister of the previously mentioned king) of England 4: The wives of three separate Dukes within Scotland 5: The queen of Brittany (who's husband found out, and imprisoned King Shawn for a while and then humiliated him and let him go...Only for King Shaw to have two childen with his wife) 6: A daughter of the king of France. All of this would already be more than impressive, but it gets BETTER! King Shawn was an absolute god amongst men, with a Martial stat of 27 (with Brilliant Strategist, of course) at the time of his death, and an Intrigue and Diplomacy score both above 15. Because he also got a lot of duel experience and his absolutely insane Martial stat, his Personal Combat score was in the positives well into his seventies, even with several debuffs. During his rule, Scotland came to rule ALL of Ireland despite previously owning none of it, took two duchies from England (his son went on to take the rest), and one of King Shawn's daughter's was installed as the queen of Jerusalem...Because yes, King Shawn went on a Crusade, and won. During King Shawn's rule, construction began on TWO separate Great Works, a royal palace and a garden, because he amassed more wealth than I knew what to do with. ALL of this...And there's STILL MORE! Because King Shawn just kep getting more and more traits. By the end of his life, he was a Lunatic, got Possessed but lost it, had Master Seducer (of course...), Game Master, Poet, Duelist, Unyielding, Flanker, Depressed for about 25 years straight, and Uncouth. All of this...And he somehow still had almost 1000 piety when he died, along with enough Prestige to fulfill the Exalted Among Men ambition almost twice over. King Shawn died an old, well-known, and beloved king. During his reign, Scotland grew from a relatively small, unknown kingdom to THE dominant power in western Europe, and his dynasty (thanks to his many, MANY children) lived on, and prospered, even in the Holy Land he helped conquer. King Shawn could then, after a long, adventurous and exciting life, finally see his truly beloved wife(s) again. (If you might be wondering how I remember all of this so clearly, I knew I wouldn't, so I began to carefully document King Shawn's life when I realized how special he would be, by meticulously screenshotting everything, which I still have for reference whenever I want to tell the story of the absolute BEST time I've had playing CK2.)

Thanks, that's very kind of you to say. As far as omissions go: Councilor Actions did come up in passing, but I never went in depth. I did this because most of them can be quickly understood via their mouseovers. I omitted Societies because they are quite niche (from a DLC that I don't think terribly many people will have), and also because they're relatively simple. Most interactions with them are also explained via mouseover. I try to keep these videos as concise and fun as possible, and that means omitting some (non-vital) systems. @@CallMeEzekiel Mystics and Monks dlc is useful for Pagan leaders. Because with Eagle society Tengri religious leaders can increase their manpower and population limit without conquering anywhere. It is necessary to have it only for them because you have 2 threats that linger on your east borders. Uyghur and Tang Empire(comes with Jade Empire). You can deal with Tang Empire easily by sending gifts etc. Also, you have to consider Khazaria as a threat too if you are playing Yabguid. When your lands are crushed between 2 nations, you will focus on having more hordes than others.
Vassals will not get upset about having their levies raised if their liege is in a great holy war

How to deal with plagues? Building hospitals makes the plague (measles, camp fever, smallpox, consumption, etc) wreck my realm. Not building hospitals makes the plague wreck my realm. Being a remote isolated island doesn't stop the plague. I feel like Squidward with the plagues being sea-bears.
That's an interesting analogy... Anyway, plagues are something you sort of just have to deal with. You can protect yourself and your court by going into seclusion. Also, try to have a good court physician.
I've found that hospitals are more of a damage control measure than a prevention of disease.
@@rodrikforrester6989 Build hospitals in your border provinces to keep disease out and in your capital as a last hope. Unupgraded they do not yet prevent disease, so make sure you upgrade them. Close your gates before diseases reach your capital. Also, if you are feudal and the rest of the world is tribal, there is currently a bug that makes you plague-ridden because tribals aren't affected by plagues, so you are the only possible target for all plagues that spawn. So make sure lots of other feudal realms are around. Hope that helps. You can also lower their frequency in the game options upon starting.

I try to make my videos as timeless as possible. Both HOI4 and Stellaris change a lot since they haven't gotten a lot of DLC yet. They'll change less and less as they become more developed. Then I can make a video knowing that they'll remain relevant long after posting.

I use whatever music/content is needed to make the best video possible. Usually KZhead doesn't care about it, but if KZhead does get upset then the owner of the rights to the offending content is allowed to put restrictions on the video. Currently I don't monetize any of my content. If you see an ad, then odds are that it's because the video is claimed and the rights holder is making the money. In one case, on my EU4 video, restrictions were placed on who could see it. The restrictions make it so people in: Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Northern Mariana Islands, American Samoa, Guam, and the U.S. Outlying Islands can't watch the video. I don't know what the rights holder has against Puerto Ricans, but if they don't want them to see the video, I can't stop them. I hope this made things clear!

Maybe i am very stupid for asking so sry in advance :D but is there a way to conquer a whole land ? Like i played as irland and declared Dejure war on a Province hold by the Picton empire when i won i only get the one Province that cant be the only way getting to war for every Province one by one. Also my heir doesent get the fabricatet claims after my character is dead is that normal do i need to pick a special succession to keep them ?
When you win a war you only get to take what the war was declared over. If it was declared over a single country you only get that county. It's possible to get claims for entire kingdoms (often through being the second or third son of the previous king.) When fabricating claims on a county, it's possible the claim will be made for the Duchy instead. Most claims become a weak claim after being inherited from a previous claimant. However, just like you described, I believe fabricated claims just go away on death. One other thing to consider is that there are ways to expand other then wars. Strategic marriages are a great way to expand. I've found myself inheriting whole kingdoms accidentally because of my marriages. Another option is to become a vassal and then form a faction to usurp your new liege.

Feel free to ask all the questions you need! For any inheritance-meddling plan to work, you need to understand the components. If you're trying to inherit an elective kingdom, marrying the ruler won't help since elective monarchy does not care about dynasty. Any plan you make is 100% dependent on the laws of the kingdom you're trying to get. A key thing to understand is that a lot can go wrong with these sorts of plans, so what I do is just marry as many people as possible, and let the inheritance come to me through chance. The larger your family, the more chances there will be for an inheritance.

Using Matrilineal Marriage is amazing for bloodlines. Basically as long as you mary a dude with a bloodline Matrilinealy, you get any bloodline you want for your heir. Meaning you can have bunch or really good stuff, if you marry right. Use the Ledger thing to find people with bloodlines it's few pages in (UI is kinda pain to use tho). Do the same for all your female relatives, and intermarry their grand kids with the bloodlines, and boom, you have bunch of extra options to play with. If you do it right, and get reasonably lucky you get like +5 personal combat and +0.1 prestige per month at first generation, and doubling that every following one, while also getting special effect unlocks (like +5 to 15 to religious,vassal or other opinions, increased movement speed, morale damage, conversion speed or various traits). Having one bloodline can be game changing. Having like 8 of them? It's more powerful than bonuses you get for from culture or religion. I mean it takes a lot of work to set up, and you likely have to make some sacrifices for it, but being male ruler is crippling the next generation. That said do it only after forging your own bloodline, or you gonna get trolled by mechanics. I mean there are workarounds, but it makes it whole lot easier. Another tip. Most rulers are male, and you get attraction option bonus depending on your traits, and how gay your vassals are. If you get Master Seductress and Attractive traits, you basically get +80 opinion to all (male)rulers around you. Unless you get crippled, syphilis or ugly. Then it's real bad. So yea, female rulers make realm ultra-stable, as long as you micro mange the marriage and trait system properly. I mean it is kinda pain in the ass to do it all, but if you do, you can get real good rulers. Especially if you are absolute madlad and do it as tribal, since you pay your troops in prestige, instead of gold. Prestige you can get from bloodlines (and wars). (If pagan, give all your gold to your Holy order, they build fortress every 300 gold they have, to solve all your problems, and vasalaze them, convert to Romova for Baltic Holds, and upgrade all the things. if needed (they don't build while vasalized tho). That's some more advanced gameplay tho.

I don't know why you lose the game if your heir is a non-dynast. "Uh, duh the game is about your ruling family" you might say. Well, consider an alternative. The game goes through agnatic-cognatic primogeniture (this is actually the default "fall back" option for a title when the title's actual succession law fails in some way such as running out of family members with seniority. if you wondered how you can get women Popes without mods, it's because you've borked the cardinal system so badly it ran out of cardinals) but considers non-dynasts dead for the purpose of calculation. It keeps going until it finds a dynastic heir, which may be quite a distant relative if the immediate heir is not one. Then you play as that character if he's playable and get a claim on all your old titles. Which is honestly probably going to be a pain in the ass and most people would rather restart which is what they would also do on a game over, but I honestly think this is a better implementation even if most people will treat it the same as a game over.
Or when youre playing and suddenly you just die and you've got no kids or even if you do they happen to be young and get taken on a 'hunting trip'

As a general rule, Paradox games aren't very good at launch. They tend to need a few years worth of expansions to become good games. If you don't want to wait that long, just buy CKII now (or wait for it to go on sale.) I hope this helps!

I have about 1500 hours in HOI4, 500 in Hoi3, and about 250 in EU4, not really sure what I want. Might pick up Vic2 with some gift money, but can't really decide between CK2 and Stellaris as my next paradox game. Which do you think is better for co-op multiplayer?
That's going to be down to which setting you're most interested in and your price point. My favorite of the bunch is Victoria II. It's also the cheapest to get. (That includes both DLCs which are mandatory. Both for the game to be good and to use most mods.) In regard to co-op... that's going to depend on who you're playing with. They're all valid options. The challenge is picking the game that you'll both like.

Yes, you can usurp titles from different religious leaders. It depends on de jure claims. In my play today, I usurped a title from the Sunni faith leader while I was an Orthodox faith leader.
Ahh but that happens when that person has 1 piece of land left. You can usurp titles like duchy etc. But you can't usurp the count title from them

Pretty good, but I’d prob leave out dlc features, like the childhood education mechanics in this game for example, for future games. IMO its best to teach with vanilla as not to confuse new players with things they may not have, plus you’d be working off the base that most starting players would have. Keep it up!
One of the goals for these tutorials is to be as future-proof as possible. This means that I have to cover the DLC/Expansion version of these systems. Anyway the version of these mechanics without the DLC/expansion is simpler, so it's easier to learn.
@@CallMeEzekiel Fair enough, but I would still argue teaching the simpler system is better for new players than a more complex one. Plus without the information as to where a new player could find those mechanics (Which DLC has what), including them for future proofing might still lead towards confusion. I might recommend even just including a picture of the dlc with the mechanic when referencing one specifically like the education system or retinue for example.
@@sapo4445 Disagree, there are plenty of tutorials for vanilla ck2. And vanilla lacks a lot of flavor which would have made this much less fun. In addition, he did mention that the Way of Life DLC is pretty much obligatory and nobody in their right mind would play without it.

"Lacks flavor" Sure, but its a better bet that someone new has vanilla or one or two DLCs than to teach with all of them. "Nobody in their right mind" A new player knows nothing about essential DLC, and some don't have the ability to get it right away. Teaching at a base level is more beneficial to the average new player than with all of them is my point. While I can agree to your points that vanilla isnt as good as DLC CK2, and that WoL is essential, I can't agree that teaching with everything trumps teaching a basic understanding first. You can't teach someone to write a book before you taught them to write a short story.

He filled an important gap there. Anyone who looks into the game will find out right away that Way of Life which includes the feature you complained about is The must-have DLC and a game key for it costs exactly 3.18 EUR right now. Do you seriously want to base your criticism of this video on him including something that makes the game much much better and costs as much as a cappuccino??

I am going to share a sad story... The first kingdom i did choose was Castille in the year of 1066. I had only a smll desire of uniting the entire Iberian Peninsula back to the catholic faith and the Hispanic Empire. But man, I am now in the 1200s and I simply had no peace since the beginning, and half of my vassals always want me dead. War, war and war. Thats the gameplay in the Iberian Peninsula. Or then I am a warmonger instead. But dont play with Castille if you dont dominate the game yet.

There are random events that let you attempt to seduce people in your court. Alternatively, you can take the seduction focus which lets you seduce -everyone- anyone in your diplomatic range! I hope this helps!

The UI can change based on the character you're playing. The character in the footage is a Muslim, and Islam is generally associated with the color green, so the UI is green.
Casus Belli is pronounced "Casus Bellee", by the way. Not "Casus Bell-i", as you say it. It doesn't change when pluralized, whether in spelling or in pronunciation.

It looks complex from the outside. If you indulge in it and let it teach you the ways of loosing your all titles. You will learn to play the game properly next time. I was playing Byzantine Emperor, he was a total despot who was a cannibal and brilliant strategist. This Emperor had a wife who was Catholic and he had 2 kids from her. The youngest son died because of a disease and the first son died because of political gameplay. Only the grandson was left as an heir and the Emperor got depressed so he committed suicide by letting himself from his balcony. He looked at Constantinople once more and he took his own life.
