  • Impressive the sacrifices that some fighters make. And then people don't even treat them with the respect that they deserve. I seriously doubt that 99% of the athletes in the world would go through something like this. Big respect !

    • Honestly you just spoke my mind. I am really asking what this insane effort is giving these fighters in return since they don not make as much money as say boxers.

    • ***** yes but she still has to do the sacrifice, and we could see how much she suffered in this documentary. I am sure that there are a lot of athletes that wouldn't go trough this.. they would just quit.

Fallon Fox is the fighter y’all are thinking of who is a man that went through surgery. Do more research.

  • Cutting weight like this is barbaric. There has to be a higher weight class.

    @GAboy3030@GAboy30307 жыл бұрын
    • there is the problem she's done so many roids and done such damage to her body its unsafe/nigh impossible for her to cut weight to said weight class in addition to her just being naturally heavier....it's brilliant propaganda this video...but it doesnt change the fact that the difficulties she suffers cutting weight are exacerbated by her previous use of P.E.Ds and sadly for her the lighter weights are where all the female fighters of note are.....she has no competition at the weight class she should be at...because they all got tired of fighting girls on roids and thus nobody is in the division they either cut weight to lighter divisions or quit WMMA...it's like Hunt with the fighting PED cheats...at a certain point it's not worth it when you know the other person isnt playing by the same rule set as you

    • ArchAngelWC it’s not roids. Cutting weight is brutal and becomes more difficult the more you do it. That’s why fighters move up weight as they get older. I wonder how people like Till, Israel, Holloway and Ferguson cut weight. They must get close to dying. Meanwhile DC be eating junk food at HW.

    • Daniel Javed Good point. And absolutely, sadly, they probably are. There’s longterm kidney damage, liver damage, and heart damage, bone density loss, most likely hormonal imbalances too. There’s something called “starvation hepatitis” (can’t remember the more fancy medical term) where when weight is dropped quickly and in severe dehydration, the liver starts enlarging and scarring, often staying enlarged and with raised enzymes for the rest of your life. The heart muscle can start getting eaten up too, the irregular rhythms from dehydration can never resolve which is super dangerous. It happens commonly in anorexia/bulimia, especially if laxatives/diuretics are being abused. (Actually, doing this several times a year, with working out so hard and getting into such a calorie deficit months prior to be in range, longterm it’s remarkably similar to years of anorexia or bulimia, even if we don’t have full case studies yet.) And if someone enters into a life threatening situation during one of these cuts and they need IV access *that second*? Good luck finding a vein, or one that won’t immediately collapse. Sometimes they’re even too dehydrated for an IJV (neck IV) to be accessible/hold up. So since the next step, a PICC, would take too long/most paramedics aren’t trained and don’t have the equipment, the next option is an IO, intraosseous. Where they drill a fucking hole, usually in your sternum, or your upper arm, or sometimes your shin, to get access straight to the marrow that won’t collapse. I don’t want to ramble, but those are the big ones, off the top of my head. Those basic intense health risks should be terrifying. For the fighters and every person in the room cheering, yes, but for MMA as a whole (and pretty much every other combat sport, body building, etc.) The fact that the Brazilian fighter dying right before getting weighed, after a massive cut (about the same Cris did here) didn’t send fucking _waves_ of panic and demands to reform through the entire industry doesn’t surprise me, but it really angers me. And it’s not stopping, we’ve seen way too many. Jessica Lindsay, in Australia, last year? The Muay Thai girl? She was only 18 fucking years old. By absolutely nothing but a few half-assed “yeah we know people are risking permanent injuries and death to make weight, we’re, uh, looking into it,” they’ve made their stance very clear. Health and safety will never come above profit, and the weigh-ins are the show before the show at literally whatever cost.

    • Daniel Javed Sorry bro that got long lol. It’s just such a disappointing thing for me to see these athletes continually hurt themselves to such an extent for massive corporations to rake in more money. I know personally that in many ways it’s just part of the “culture,” but to this extent? No, “unnecessary” doesn’t even begin to cover it.

  • I have been a Cris Cyborg fan for years. The UFC forcing her to lose weight to 140lbs is ridiculous. There are photos of her next other fighters and people and you can CLEARLY see this woman will never be able to get down to 135 lbs and be anything like what she should be. Do a google search of Cris Cyborg next to Frankie Edgar and see for yourself. She is a tall build woman. The UFC has wasted years not trying to acquire and promote her as the toughest woman in MMA. She is finally getting some exposure and will be remembered once she retires as the best female fighter in MMA ever. Too bad the UFC was too stupid to promote her and make fights for her for the fans. Imagine if Mike Tyson never got those memorable world title fights and only was forced to cut 50lbs and fight lesser known fighters. This is what is happening to Cris and it doesn't have to be this way. Maybe the UFC will wake up quickly and try to use Cyborg properly but so far they have not! Shame on the Dana and the UFC. The fans deserve to see the best female fighter on the planet fighting the best other fighters in her own weight class.

    • I make mine your words because I share your opinion and feelings. Cris Cyborg is an MMA icon. To see her dismissed like this by Dana White and IMG because they want to save Ronda's spotlight and for Dana to put her through brutal weight cut and deny her a Featherweight division to get revenge on Tito Ortiz, Wanderlei Silva and a couple people in her life is mean and outrageous. No one must treat such a great MMA fighter as Cris Cyborg like that and claims to love MMA - they love money. Anyway, Cris cyborg shines bright without bending down to White. (I'm 5'8 like Cris, my healthy weight is 168: to make 145 lbs is hard, believe me and I have way less muscle mass than her).

    • >The UFC forcing her to lose weight to 140lbs is ridiculous. Nobody forced her to do anything. She refused to shut her steroid ridden mouth calling out 135lb fighters until the UFC found one gullible enough to try a catchweight bout at 140 and then they OFFERED them the fight... Don't put this on anyone but Cyborg, she made her bed now she has to lie in it. She's only the best at 145 because she's been on steroids for years and packed on dozens of pounds of ill-begotten muscle. If she wants to fight the best in the word, cut the muscle to be able to make 135 comfortably. If she's not willing to do that, then she needs to shut the fuck up and continue to fight whatever cans that other shitty promotions want to throw at her.

What an amazing woman an example of determination and she gives it all to God and when she said she done it for Jesus she couldn't do it for herself and her man said God is good that just brought it all into perspective... I pray for her strength protection and success - what an amazing child of God! I love this woman and am now a fan ...and to think I only learned of her existence a day ago.

  • Why does Cris attracts so much hate? Simple: because she is a woman and she is incredibly skilled and strong. You can see that the majority of those who hater her are men, trying to diminish her because somehow she bothers them. Some men are so weak and insecure that they think they need to humiliate and doubt of women's competence when they are best of them. Pure dumbest sexism! Several man fighters were caught more that one time cheating and this not bother most of these patetic "men" who's hating her. All respect for Cyborg, the most dangerous woman in the world!

Listen to her voice, it even sounds like a man. She looks like a roided up female bodybuilder.

      @ujjwallepcha9002@ujjwallepcha90025 жыл бұрын
    • Actually it is disadvantageous, it's called "performance enhancing drugs" because it enhances the fucking performance, therefore a natural man will struggle and probably be out matched by steroid user. Also what tests did you do on Cris to find out her testosterone levels? Besides the voice check and the fact she packs more muscle than you probably.

I would guess this is from 97-99, because Cordeiro was still competing and Shogun Rua of course still was a youngster and several years away from starting his MMA career.

  • Whow, what a different perspective I've gained from watching this video. I am embarrassed to say that I have had COMPLETELY different opinion of Cris Cyborg which was based on...I don't even know what. There is a woman in here, a human being that is vulnerable and raw, that is strong and persistent, courageous, that doesn't give up. There are so many sides to Cris that I simply didn't know existed as what we see in the media is a very limited view of who she actually is. I am a fan now, I must say.

This entire weight cut process is definitely a collaborative effort. Seeing her struggle to make 140lbs, tells me it would be damn near impossible to make 135lbs. UFC might as well make a weight division at 140/145lbs and build it with other female competitors who simply cannot make 135lbs.

You are saying a fighter has more muscle then a natural bodybuilder? It's her own fault and I laugh at her trying to lose weight. She knows damn well she's a cheating bitch entering a competition as a 180lb MAN. She can just stop taking steroids and lose atleast 40lbs of muscle.

      @basharen1444@basharen14447 жыл бұрын

After 2 years off the gear that 10% completely disappears.. so your excuse to devalue cyborg it's not valid, so shut the fuck up and accept the fact that she is the best and can beat any mma fighter incluiding that bitch of ronda, that is a completely sore loser and a fraud, she only win's by arm bar, in a stand up fight, she is a joke and everyone notice that already when she got exposed when she fought with holly holm, and these are facts.

    • Many people are never caught for steroid and PED use, so you can't use whether people failed drug tests as an accurate guide as to whether they do or have. When many athletes fail drug tests that is because of a mistake made with their doping regimen and it not being out of their system when it was thought it would be. Look at Lance Armstrong as an example. I think she has taken steroids because of the changes in her facial features, but cannot be 100% certain, but at the same time would not rule out that she had, even if there had never been any failed tests.

She would never wear short sleeves because she was embarrassed by what people would say. She was ripped, never lifted a weight in her life, built a lot like our dad. I'm a recent fan of Chris Cyborg and the gift that's been given her. I have concerns about her health and likely steroid use, but still respect her self discipline, it would be easy to think I quit, I don't even want to fight. However I think it can be a dangerous thing when someone is driven that much in terms of what they will do to succeed that is unwise, I also see from others that it's really hard for such people to live normally once their time in sport is over. I wish her all the best and hope she can find the fulfillment she craves.
