Even more realistic would be to let the car plan the charging stops. Then you would also test quality of the built-in charging planning.
The most realistic test is to stop when you're hungry which I was at Spekerød.
@@bjornnylandwell you planned to stop there already in your garage it was not a spontaneous stop 😉 still think that relying on the charging planner would be a test worthy item and also realistic as non-nerd drivers might just get in the car, enter the target destination and rely on the car to plan the stops.
Agree, and the Merc will optimally pre-heat the battery when it plans the intermediate charging stops.
@@adambennie4406 fully agree on that. I dont’t get the point of this way of testing.
but some people will stop and charge when they can, like when eating or something
Big from outside, small from inside: That's best way to describe modern SUVs.
Does not apply to Tesla Model Y
Miss the more crisp sound from røde.
Gotta love Max burgers! Just to clarify for those who did not get the joke. *Bjørn throws trash out the window. Bjørn puts away the camera. Bjørn gets out of the car and picks up the trash and puts it in the bin where it belongs. Bjørn is a good panda.
Very realistic for Sweden also, people go 70 in 80 zone, you overtake, then the limit changes to 40 and they keep going 70 until they are 5 cm from your bumper.
As a Swede i can confirm this. I see it pretty often.
Everything is better than Balkan driving experience. horses, people committing suicide,…
24:58 yeah this is not a usual Bjorn test xD
Bjorn: I want some real meat because I drive an electric vehicle. You are a legend, but I refuse to believe you left your refuse on the floor!

Thanks Bjorn. I didn't see that video, but I knew you wouldn't really do it! You are too Scandinavian to be that naughty.@@bjornnyland
Hei Bjorn! Det var den besten test du har laget! Jeg liker en realistic test, fordi jeg kjører alltid avslappet. Tusen takk fra Nederland (jeg lærer Norsk)
I like the idea of a 'chill' test. I'm wondering if just relying on the trip planner would be better, or maybe charging to 70% or 80% (rather than the ninja calculations an unplugging as soon as the charge rate goes down like you normally do) so it is more reproducible.
Might be a problem with newer cars as the planners have less data on the cars.
@@MarkusAJ should be the built-in planner, your average person should be able to get in a new EV and have the car figure out the route and charging stops for them and get a good experience without having to install any apps or do any TeslaBjorn ninja calculations.
@24:55 This is way too realistic!🤣
It is an interesting test and procedure and shows that the slowly drive is a matter of costs… that the time gap was so huge was surprising, but shows that charging over 70 or 80% makes no sense
Great video, thanks for your productivity, greetings from the Netherlands 🇳🇱
nice video. but not a big surprise. petrol cars behave the same. softer driving takes longer but consumes less energy. maybe went faster if you charged a little shorter time but more times. do you have the total cost of the trips for comparison?
Thanks for great work Björn. The slow Björn 😆
Hi Bjørn, big fan of your content! Do you have tips on planning charging stops on a long trip? ABRP advises other charging stops then in car navigation and chargemap and fastned. I drive an EQE 300. Cheers from Belgium!
I drove 1000 km from central to south europe. Took me 11:20 due to Traffic and construction sites. Also vat was added to the limit when possible. If we want to make a break we charge 30-35 min. Otherwise 15-20 because it is slower and boring.
That trash from window :D it was epic :D. I believe everybody knows you hate littering
Apparently not
Loving these more realistic videos!
Thanks for the video Bjorn. I don't know how you were able to tolerate driving so slow for so long man. I know it was the challenge, but it has to be especially tough when you know you could get to a destination so much faster. I likely couldn't have done it and I'm not a lead foot. According to me anyway, my wife might say different. lol. All the best to you and yours.
My experience is if you go +5 not a whole lot of people will be faster. And you're fairly close to the real GPS speed.
Throwing the trash out... that was epic :D :P Seriously though, when it comes to 'normal' long distance drives across Europe, usually we drive until the other is getting tired - approx 200-250km, and then stop to swap with a 20min leg stretch, snack, pee, and then a stop of approx 1hr for lunch and/or dinner at some point. I think this makes more sense rather than pushing the distance to the end of a battery.
only 24 ;) the double of my Spring ;)
If the 1000km challenge was supposed to be realistic then it should be from point A to point B instead of a fixed length that includes detours for charging. Once upon a time it was probably not possible since there was a shortage of chargers for most cars, but now it should be doable. In any case, a chill drive was fun!
That would be impractical.
@@bjornnyland nothing prevents point B to be the same place as A, why not make the end home sweet home.
How about test tesla M3 RWD with CHILL mode 1000km test. 60LFP pack would kick ass😊
Yesterday I realized that I actually drive too modestly for charging. I have a Ioniq 6 and if do not navigate to a charger, but simply decide to charge when I see a HPC I get low charging rates, since the battery is as chilled as me 😀
Happy that you did what I was asking for. Don’t forget you were able to chill for almost 2 hours. That is realistic. Maybe 3 stops would have improve a bit the time. And it is needed, especially when you have a family trip. The ultimate challenge would be to drive as fast as usual, with proper stops. Not sure you will be interested to do it again, but it could be interesting to do it again, with a Korean car, an American one, a french one, and maybe a big chinese car, like a BYD! Was fun!
But I didn't chill for 2 hours?
Bjørn, did you get any response from Foto about the RØDE Wireless PRO ? Not impressed with the DJI in the latest videos.
Not yet. But I found out that even though both Røde and DJI are omnidirectional mics, the polar pattern on DJI is narrower than Røde which causes the sound to be muffled if placed in that position. It seems like DJI sounds better if mic is placed straight towards my head rather than at a 90° angle.
@bjornnyland Yes, the RØDE is quite forgiving when it comes to positioning. Apparently not the DJI. Hopefully it will work out. Will you still get the RØDE, in order to compare them ?
This car charges very slow and with a so big battery…. That’s awful… thanks for your video Bjorn
Björn! You will pre-heat the battery even if you navigate to CircleK. As long as the car realises it´s a charger it doesn´t matter if it´s in Mme charge or not.
It didn't preheat.
thanks for this special test, made me smarter 👍🏼
How slow can you go? Yes. 👍😆
As far as I know preheating at Mercedes works only when it’s added to route automatically - not as a endpoint
❤❤❤
Did you think about Tromso chalange? It would be fantastic!
No
@@bjornnyland For petrol cars challenge so far in real life?
I remember a Dutch car magazine doing a test going from Frederikshavn to Amsterdam in fossil cars, I don't remember which one. Distance was 1000 km. One car drove fast, the other slow. The difference in travel time was only 20 minutes arriving in Amsterdam. And it included unlimited German autobahn. This is in stark contrast to what Björn now finds. I am confused.
Traffic is what is usually holding you back. The share of km where you can go 150+ instead of only 120 is quite small to make a big difference.
That was an interesting test. I think your usual tests give irrelevant results because you are constantly adjusting for every little thing. I think this test shows that there is an optimal way of driving and charging. It's fair to say that it's safer to drive at traffic speed rather than going slower because of the speed limit, and it's also best practice to plan your journey and only charge what you need and not to 100%. So I think there needs to be another test that is actual real world.
66 min charging to 100%?! Kyle charged to 30% on his Cybertruck from Jacksonville to LA. The Silverado beat him with 5 min.
170kW charging for a car this expensive is kinda sad.
Would be nice to see the opposite test, max speed... You should apply for a police escort 😉 Actually it should be an interesting test for the police as well as the to are going electric, so it may be approved!
Harry og meget ufint å kaste søppel, og la andre rydde! Ellers en fin test👍
You got trolled :P kzhead.info/sun/h7KygbF8pWSfjKc/bejne.html
10 km/h slower means around 100 minutes in 1000km
Well not really. 1000km @ 120 km/h will take 8h20. 1000 km @ 110km/h wil take 9h10 so a 50 min difference
no, it depends on the speed of travel. 130 --> to 120 is less waste of time than 100--> to 90 for example.
Of course. I said "around" @@pascalg.8772

They really want to force that plant based shit on you right? 😂
The consumption of this car is unacceptable high.
Not the most efficient car in the world…
No, it´s a huge AMG SUV with large tires. Same goes for the GLE 63 AMG.
they have the Vision EQXX for that purpose
Then, who claimed that? For sure Mercedes never did.
@@frankblok1743 Did I wrote someone claimed it?
Not realistic......
These test procedures only apply to Norway and are not realistsic outside of it. No, it's not a more realistic test.
It’s not realistic
11:54 TAKE IT OFF!!!!! EU OFFICIALS BAD DECISION. RIP IT JUST OFF FROM THE BOTTLE!!! NEVER LEAVE IT ON. THEY WILL CRUSH THE BOTTLE ANYWAY!!
I DON'T THINK YOU KNOW WHY IT'S LIKE THAT. IT'S BECAUSE PEOPLE LITTER AND THE LID ENDS UP SOMEWHERE ELSE THAN BEING RECYCLED OR IN THE TRASH. THAT'S WHY THEY HAVE TO MAKE IT MUCH HARDER TO SEPARATE THE LID FROM THE BOTTLE. IF PEOPLE WOULD BEHAVE AND NOT LITTER WE WOULD NOT HAVE THE LID STUCK TO THE BOTTLE LIKE THAT. I HOPE THIS COMMENT WAS USEFUL FOR YOU AND OTHERS.
@@bjornnyland I think, both of you need a new keyboard. Something went wrong with the caps lock...😜
