It not only mimics fossil sounds, but fossil energy inefficiency as well.
It just needs the smell then.
Its amazing how Smart manages to build small cars with the prize and consumption of a big car.
@@weorldeditchinese did the engineering and germans made its design. Maybe they should have switched their roles?
@@weorldedit It's because they're (not so) Smart 😉
@12:10 Vroooom... I'm actually not sure why the heck the car is so thirsty?... Vrooooooooom! 🏎💨🤣
Lead foot to get the silly sounds probably burns a bunch more energy😁
Yes, but that is how you are supposed to drive it.
Fun fake engine sound. Thanks King Bjorn. I love 1000 kms challenge. Thnaks for all, Bjorn. 😀
My takeaway from this is that it was the rigth choice to buy the megane instead. Faster in the 1000km test, better infotainment that doesn’t freeze, not dictatorship built and it’s even slightly cheaper to buy… It seems that having high top charging speed is negated by the high consumption in the Brabus. By the way I think many hasn’t realized that Ionity is cheaper than circle K yet. Circle K cost 5,49 sek/kwh with no subscription. Ionity used to be above 7 kr/kwh for drop-in.
Infotainment in Megane is Miles ahead. The only thing braubus clearly wins is performance.
Sad we dont have it in sea
I was initially looking to get a #3 but at the end I am also happy I went with the Megane. It is just another league
Did you get the Megane already? Can you share your experience? Thank you
@@bavariancarenthusiast2722 yep, great infotainment system, efficient and overall really solid driving feel. Probably the best smaller ev available in my opinion.
I drove the #1 Brabus for around 2 months (4000km, in summer )as a free loaner from smart Germany because the delivery of my car took longer. The Brabus really is thirsty. I averaged it around 23kwh with mixed roads (50/30/20 | city/country/Autobahn). My #1 premium sits at 16kwh. That is quite significant! The Brabus would never do above 300km per charge in my case. The premium easily does 400km per charge with around 4% to spare. Such a weird and massive difference. I also always drove the Brabus in comfort mode, used Brabus Mode in the beginning because it really is a lot of fun 😊 I will get the #3 premium as a loaner on May 13th '24 because my car has software issues which need to be fixed. I'm quite curious about the consumption on that Model. Great video as always, Bjorn!
Great video Bjorn.
Good stuff as always. Man I can't wait for the EX30! Especially a proper interior review and practicality test! Looking forward to it.
how can this smart have the same drag and consumption as my id buzz? that is horrible if you look at the size difference.
Hatchbacks have lousy aerodynamics by default.
There is apparently room for improvement regarding efficiency.
Keep in mind that total drag = drag coefficient (cw) x front area (A). The ID Buzz is 28 % bigger than Smart #1.
@@ziggyyoYeah, but when you compare the drag coefficient of th VW Buzz (0.285) with the latest people carrier in China (like e.g. the LI Auto Mega (which has a Cw of 0.215) then you see that VW didn't do such a great job.
@@belaw2983 yes, but the consumption is the same. they both do 300Wh/km according to Bjorns testing and with my own buzz doing just 100 (wich is the speed limit here) i get a solid 200Wh/km without trying.
Great to hear you're getting EX30. Will be interesting to test what difference 'performance mode' makes to range. Keep the good stuff coming!
Skoda Superb has the best headrest for naps, cause you can fold out headrests that keeps your head from falling :)
Smart Classical 😊
Don’t have too much expectations of the EX30 when you get it. I’ve had the EX30P for a week now and the route planner is VERY basic, super disappointed at that! The car lacks a lot of features e.g the mirrors do not dip when put in reverse, the radio volume when you start the car is insanely loud and has to be adjusted every time, the steps in the volume are way too big so it’s almost impossible to find the right volume, Pilot Assist is quite nervous and too much ping pong for my taste, the car throttles the power already around 21% (maybe even earlier, have to verify this) and i found it dangerously weak when accelerating to the motorway, regen is too weak for my taste and starts working after the battery is less than 90-95% etc etc. I am expecting a lot of updates and will be very disappointed if there is not. Apple CarPlay should come week 16 according to my dealer. I’m hoping it was not a mistake not getting the iX1 instead…😔It drives well and is comfortable, maybe even a bit too soft for my taste, seat side support are too soft, it’s fairy quite, rear seat is small and smaller inside than my i3s that i had, side mirrors are quite small too and not easy to adjust due to no dedicated buttons.
I take delivery of an EX30 plus extended range next week here in the U.K. according to the sales guy ramp up of production is delayed because there is a major software rewrite in progress and there will be a retro updates rolled out to existing vehicles late spring/early summer
Interesting, I have an XC40 that I find very good and have been watching the EX30 experience for when my lease is due
@@mdshovelEX30 is very basic compared to EX40 sadly
@@shockthemonkey7046 Do you think that vehicles with delivery date around May/June will contain these updates?
@@slanecek possible, but to give you a heads up on my ordering situation - I originally ordered an ex30 plus standard range last October with a delivery date of early April. The dealership contacted me end of January and told me the situation with production as Volvo had shut down production because of the Houthi attacking shipping in the Red Sea and also this major software re-write which would push my delivery date back to the end of July. By chance the dealership was sent one too many demonstrators in February in the colour and interior I’d ordered but with extended range so they offered it to me, which I decided to accept. So… maybe May/June delivery may well be pushed back a little?
The inefficiency of many new cars is killing many options for me... It's a huge waste of electricity (and money for some) - I'm not a Tesla fan, but on that point they are a rational choice
Nobody's choice for a brand new ICE car is decided by the fact that a car consumes 1liter per 100 km more that another one in the shortlist. For EV car this is even less relevant.
@@DBGE001efficiency*capacity=range
@@gisoboYeah, this car has a 10%-80% SoC range of about 160 km, which is more than OK for 80% of the customer base.
@@DBGE001that'd be “OK” for an e-up but not for a price of almost 50.000 EUR.
@@DBGE001 The thing is this is not a small difference like 1 liter per 100km on ICE cars but 50% more cosumption than a Model 3. Some people just don't want to waste their money in inefficiencies while there are other better choices in the market.
We have the #1 premium (uk so no need for 4wd, and no one really needs all that power lol). There have been a few little niggles, as you get with any car, but none of the crashes, squeaky seats and stuff you experienced with this brabus...!
In France IECharge offers 2 x 160 kW and 2x320 kW at 30 cts of euro the kWh, no subscription So Circke K or Ionity are not the cheapest in Europe
Did the odometer also go backwards when the trip meter reset? That would be a serious issue
"Super Greg... #1!"
Smart Original!
Brabus adds the fun
i dont understand why there is not a signle efficient reasonable electric car on the market righ tnow.. we need the original ioniq back with new cells. that car would be cheap and really good. but that is also why we dont get it. Cant sell those useless suvs then..
that car has like 60 kwh battery and goes 300km max in warm winter? hello no. Wtf
Well maybe the Ioniq 6 RWD LR, but it's too expensive. So I' be to agree.
IONIQ 6 has an almost unusable boot and is still less efficient than my classic IONIQ
It drives me crazy. Put 50 kWh in a classic Ioniq, change absolutely nothing else, price it at 35 000 EUR, boom, best EV out there. Instead we get this inefficient SUV bullshit left and right. Please wake me up I think I am having a nightmare
I mean, faster than 42kW charging would also be warranted at that point. But yeah, no more than they’ve done with the Kona
"Classical" sound sounds best I think.
from what understand system has imprved over time and released several updates, regularly.. seems manufacturers still on the learning curve, and not only smart.. there is no route planner yet on the smart. it is to come, what is there is a beta.. overall still a good package in terms of price, equipment, handling, space, performance. this car is about performance not efficiency at least in brabus
I had two months ago a #1 Brabus and Software and consumption was like in the Video really bad. In comparison a #3 Premium really surprised me few days ago. The software was so much better as well as consumption with only rear wheel drive.
Drive the Brabus in Eco mode and their is no difference in consumption due to rear wheel drive only. Why would be the Software be different on both cars when the use the same software version?
@@flolin8766 no that's simply not true. Permanent magnet synchronous motors (as in this smart) do need energy also while not in use. Otherwise they would start to recuperate (with obvious energy loss). That's why most higher trim EVs need much more energy than the "smaller" ones. As for the Infotainment I'm unsure if they improved Software that much in just 2 months or use different internal hardware in the #3 as well.
@@flolin8766 you can compare for example a I4 40 vs M50 or EQE 43 AMG vs 300 and so on
Great test, as usual. Sadly I think that the reality of poor efficiency / high consumption will persist long after the entertainment value of the fake engine sound has faded...
New feature😂 chargingnap😊
The deal breaker for me of the EX30 over this is that the EX30 has a tiny Tesla style cerntre info display and that’s it, not even the option of a small display in the driver’s line of sight or even the option of a HUD. The EX30 I test drove also had loads of software bugs, it was noisy in the cabin and there’s not much more rear leg room than my Mini Cooper S E has………….
Saw some small videos of the upcoming Skoda Epiq yesterday, looks good so far.
sent our ex30 back after. 10 days. huge bugs in centre screen randomly goes into “test mode”. known issue no fix known at volvo (yet)
ionity is still more expensive in France than Tesla and IE charge
auto makers should really made those screens older people friendly ... heard about the older couple tesla owners crash bc not used to the screen ...
Well you should keep in mind this is the least efficient Smart from their range. If you want to go on longer journeys you should go for #3 Premium
LFp version only???
It is "B" as a buggy.
I have to admit as a Tesla owner I like the Fossil car sounds. Hook us up with a OTA update Tesla!
Don't you have the fart buttons already?
When you cycle do you also like to pop a playing card into the spokes to make a reassuring noise? I enjoyed that as a boy. Now I enjoy the silence
That engine sound is addictive!
❤❤❤
So the Brabus #1 is not using Google Auto like the ex30?
Squeaking sound ..? You should come and visit me in Germany … try my Land Rover from 2002 … 😂😂😂 Rattles everywhere… squeaks and hissing EVERYWHERE all the time 😂😂😂
Had high hopes for this car but it actually seems like a bit of a disaster. Fingers crossed the RWD version is more efficient.
So, it has high consumption, small battery, bad matrix lights and bad comfort. Hmmm. Plus, good charging, "fun" sound effect and it is handy. Well, not good enough for me, sorry.
Björn mentioned BYD hp per hour, KZhead gave me yet another BYD advert.
Seems like editing was also a little buggy around 17:40...
Not buggy. It was intended. The rest of that clip had loud noises due to buggy microphone.
@@bjornnyland Ah okay, ninja-editing then ;)
Can you inagine a ev car like this and all the time think about consumption? Not for me thanks
classical or smart original? best is quietness. Besides that fossils are responsible for many serious problems.
Looking forward to see you testing Ioniq 5 N After test, you will be probably run dry in your balls 😄 That’s fake engine sound is just insane (misfire, revlimiter and „gear“ changes)
If you want a small car that can fit tall people in the back i dont know what are your options
Kia Niro EV, no problems fitting long people in the back. Tried every model of MG, you can’t fit anyone over 1,80 in the back 🙈
Boxy car or Bjorn giving it beans all the time?
Imagine doing that for 10 hours...
That noise encourages putting your foot down. Bad for consumption.
Eqxx just did more than 1000 km on one charge... With ac on.... Bit of a champagne moment I would say... I know it's not a production car but it's not some stripped down test mule either
Just? That was two years ago.
@@drfisheyeyeah I guess I'm a little late to this party... It's their third time... But this time even better efficiency... About 155kw pe 100 km at an average speed of about 71 kph
@@LoneWolf-wp9dn It did 7.4kwh per 100km. Which is impressive indeed. 70kmph is slow though. I did 12kwh per 100km today in much colder weather at those speeds.
See you soon🤣
You need to redo this test with the fake engine sound off, so your foot won't be so heavy
I almost don't want to comment as I hate this car's stupid ICE sound. This said... Running the cab temperature at 24C? I've seen you run this at 22C in previous videos, would this have an impact on consumption?
Wow even the bug of different % in the 2 displays. Wow, really a chinese car...
So china and germany made a kia soul for the modern times
Funny how Ioniy is the cheapest, here in Germany it's the most expensive one
79/59 cents in Switzerland and Italy 🙈 Definitely better off with other operators.
This may be a great car but I couldn’t buy it due to that rear roofline and badge combo, it looks awful imo. EX30 looks so much better.
Cab = Chinese Automaker Bug
the classical sounds like a fart
26:22 "The drug coefficient" (is what I hear there) 😁😂
If you have a Tesla you just pay for charging.
Megane is easily the best in this segment.
this car, and the EX30, gets pushed as a new EV worth to be excited about. Looks very forgettable so far to me
can you turn that fake sound off?
Yes
I prefer Smart Original sound. Seems to have more oomph
Both fake engine sounds annoy me.
Opinions differ; i think it's fun. I think it's much better than those hoovering sounds: EVs pretending to be UFOs, nein danke!
Great car at an honest price!
170km with 75% battery is atrocious though
@@ndc5544pThe vast majority of the people in the EU have commute of less than 56 km, so the high consumption is only a factor during holiday rides, and I think most people are taking it easy during their holidays.
You want to at least drive until you get tired which is like 2-3 hours. With 170km range you don't make that. This car is not gonna be a winner.@@DBGE001
…… and the high consumption is only relevant on vacation? Or maybe in everyday life too? High consumption, higher costs! 😉
