The entire club, top to bottom, has devolved into a cringey lifestyle brand over a football team, and it's become worse ten fold ever since Mitchell joined the club. Demetriou is another exhibition of a good assistant coach overhyped as a potential head coach because he can figure up good ideas. The most important ingredient for head coaching is commanding authority and respect at the same time, and Demetriou has proven that he can't do that. When Mitchell was doing his stupid post game waffle on the radio he mentioned that JD let's the boys 'be themselves', therefore it's apparently okay to ramble on like a moron when representing his club. That is just code for "JD is too scared to pull us in line"

Ever since the Roosters didn't pay him $1m and play him fullback, he has gone down hill since then.
Lattrel is the laziest fullback I have seen play in a long time, he lurks behind play and very rarely runs support for a forwards offload like a fullback should. Billy slater is a prime example of how a full back should be positioned
The problem is Latrell isn’t a fullback and Demetriou can’t control his players if latrell was acting like this at the roosters Robinson would of sent latrell back the reserves or got rid of him

Demetriou has lost control of the Bunnies and is scared to discipline Walker and Mitchell in case he's seen as racist. It's ridiculous.
I've always defended Latrell but there's no denying it anymore; the dude is unfit, doesn't show up for the team when they need him to (specifically defensively) and seems to relish in his own individual brilliance even when the game is lost. Then he drops a slew of F bombs post interview even with a bunch of adoring young fans watching him. It's as though the older he gets, the worse his attitude has gotten when it should be the opposite.
Being a raiders fan, the Rabbitohs situation amuses me but in all seriousness I think jack will help things along, don't get me wrong jack wasn't our silver bullet but he can be very impressive when he wants to be

Bennett got the best out of Latrell and the best out of the team with his brand of coaching. Demetriou's style was always very different and it's starting to show out on the paddock.
No difference was Reynolds & Burgess were there during that run. Since they’ve left standards have dropped significantly. Team run by loud mouth bludgers!
Every player drops form and it's Rd 2 in Lachys 2nd year at first grade. They don't have a forward pack point blank period!

Dean Hawkins was the NSW Cup player of the year, so you have to wonder if he impressed that much over the pre-season. Maybe the coach has been cooling off on Ilias for a while
You can see at 8:00 even Kenty gets short of breath trying to directly point responsibility at Mitchell and Walker. You can imagine thats pretty much how the whole team would feel when addressing the issue, including the coach. Everyone knows it, its just a matter of saying it. At some point it would need to be addressed or they would be training the rest of the season on eggshells. What amazes me is this is exactly what happened last year. And nothing changed.
The best part about the whole Souffs capitulation is that Gus called it weeks before it began and Fox and all other media hammered him for it.

It's very hard to run a team when there are loads of 'more' accomplished/experienced guys. As they will always feel like they know better than the appointed leader. So there will be alot of noise from the group when they don't get what they want. If the coach is being 'overrun' then forget it, the playmaker has no chance to be the dominant voice. At Penrith Ivan and Nathan are in synch ... the others in the team know exactly where the structure is. Like it or lump it but more importantly everyone is very clear where they stand.

So agree with the comments about Latrell not being a fullback. He is a power athlete who carries a bit of body fat. His natural position is on the right edge. Can break the line, lots of natural body strength. Good defence. His behaviour is a problem, because JD and the club are 2 scared 2 reign him in.
Latrell and Walker will be send to reserves playing NSW cup if Craig Bellamy was in charge . Illas contract is to 2025 what happen next Manly, Dragons and many other teams in NSW need a stable, humble, coachable , young halfback.
At the end of the day, the buck stops with your halfback. He's your main playmaker, organiser and kicker. If you don't have a top notch halfback in todays competition, you're not going to see a premiership any time soon.
Let's be honest we all know what the problem is we just get abused for calling it out lol. But what's obvious yet hasn't been brought up is that latrell, whiten, and walker all have a long history of blaming others and not taking responsibility.. and that's our 3 best players. It's all attitude it's basically the same side since Wayne was in charge.

Feels like Cook, Mitchell and Walker are frustrated with Illias, and the lack of support from those three is showing in his confidence. Top players don't want lesser players hampering their game and Illias does hamper their game to a certain extent, he just isn't good enough yet at this early stage of this career. Wouldn't surprise me if those three plus Wighton all have a big one this Friday night against the Chooks just to make a point - we approve of the dropping of Illias. Illias will bounce back, it must be very hard for a young player at a club like Souths which is ladden full of star players. Compare that to Thurston who had zero expectation for success at the Cowboys in his early days at the club.

Sam Burgess jumped ship at the right time, letting go of Reynolds is proof that it was the worst decision. Also I can’t stand kent but good to see him back after proving his innocence and fox not trying to get rid of him to save face

To be honest he’s not a first grader. There’s 2 people that played on the weekend that definitely aren’t first graders - Jaxon Paulo is one, Lachlan Ilias is the other.

We can all sit here and blame Latrell and Cody but the truth is that they’re only doing what they know they can get away with. JDs clearly to afraid to have tough conversations with his players so I’m sure they’ll just walk all over him
It seems I can't wait for this show to start but when it does I find myself turning it over after about five minutes. I really enjoy the differing perspectives but the arguing is just too much.

Forward pack is the issue defensively the two games played so far but its round 2 haha relax.Anyone that has played knows how weird the first 2-3 games feel but most journalists don't have a clue because they played one season 20 years ago
Issue is your fullback who averages 40m a match when the top liners are pushing well over 150m plus

I know the young fella hasn’t had a good start but 2 games in and he’s dropped, bit slack. I know they want to win but he’s not the only one making mistakes, his confidence will be shattered now. Feel sorry for him, I’m not a Rabbits fan but I just think he needs some time to develope.

If the coach cannot control players and the team can’t win then fire the coach. It’s that simple.

So they had a game plan to not let the halfback kick the ball. They let Walker and Latrell kick all game. They got rid of Reynolds the only genuine superstar in Redfern so Latrell and Walker could take the limelight. Well that worked out for them. The coach waited years for a chance to prove himself and he has. He has proven he is scared of Latrell and won't get another NRL head coach job - ever.

Latrell is a phenomenal player but not as a fullback. He’s no where near the best fullbacks in the game. He’d kill it in centre as an impact player though

Well getting rid of Adam Reynolds was Russell's idea. It didnt work out... Ilias does not have a commanding personality or confidence to direct the team. The team have to trust a halfback and he's not someone you'd put your faith in. Good but not great.

It’s only round 2 FFS 🤦♂️ If they were leading the comp going towards the semis only for them to collapse spectacularly & miss the 8 altogether, then I can understand the need or desire to look for a new coach. Give them at least to mid season & see how they’re going & maybe then consider the coaching options.
It doesn't look like much has changed from last year though. If it hasn't, then Jason is a goner by mid season

They have the talent to win the comp, but SOMETHING has to change from next week onwards because they can’t afford to give the other top teams a decent head start towards the 8.
Except they're not leading the comp, have played terribly, and won 4 of their last dozen or so games in 2023. Get your head out of the sand
