They have coach's for everything now, head coach has to manage egos

Sir Alex had it right. He has the man management of Wayne bennet but he has the accountability, standards and rage of Craig Bellamy lmao
His approach is consistent with all coaches of great successful teams- no one is bigger than the team, the team comes first. So managing people and egoes is central to that. That means the manager/coach is in charge, not the players. Sir Alex moved Beckham on when he was getting bigger than the team
So they’re chasing a coach that can get Latrell and Cody firing? If you need a specialist coach to do that then you’ve got bigger issues. Let them walk and rebuild the club

No, the best thing JD could do is rile up the team and strap together some wins on his way out. That will put more pressure on the next coach and also put him in good stead with his next potential job.
Look at the quality of players he has coached. Australia & a Queensland team of superstars that blind Freddy could have coached to a win, & now Souths ???? No comparison. The current coach with a written licence from the board to sack whoever he wants when he wants, & see how it all turns around when a few of the bigheads get dropped to lower grades & told they won't be coming back to 1st grade until there is a big improvement. Even though they may struggle, give 1st grade spots to any of the young guys who have earnt it. The way they are running, the current 1st graders would probably lose anyway. Gotta feel sorry for Cam Murray. He deserves better.

One of the major sticking points in this whole South’s debacle has been the fact these big names and representative players are getting preferential treatment by the coach and by the club. What good is bringing in a relationship coach who hasn’t coached in club land for 15+ years purely based on the fact that he has a good relationship with these representative players? Do we honestly believe that will solve any of the issues with the rest of the 30 man roster? Just yesterday we were discussing the need for a taskmaster like Madge to return to the club and whip them into shape. Mal is the polar opposite to Madge. This is not the solution for Souths and will end terribly if it eventuates.

Most common theme of great coaches is they put team first, they get all players to buy in to game plan and manage people so no individual is above the team
Problem with Jason is he should of saw the signs early on with Latrell and threw him NSW Cup on his terrible fitness and attitude.I think the players also hated it over Jason gave Latrell easy treatment then other players, that's why you can see the riff in the team. Same like Hayne getting Neil Henry fired at the Gold Coast

In 2011 the Warriors started 2 in 4 and still made it to the grand final. The x factor that got them there was SJ's debut season. If Souths win against the Cronulla they will be 2-4 and might have a chance

Meninga has a poor NRL record. Coaching elite rep players is far different than the week to week NRL grind. Another stupid decision to put into the rubbish basket along with letting Adam Reynolds walk.

Adams Reynolds has proved my point he is a walking injury prone player. He is no saviour he put his best efforts last year. This is his last year and South Sydney did the right thing. The problem is the self entitled attitude by players.

A coach doesn't teach you how to play the game at this level. They are managers of men. And people like that are Wayne Bennet and Big Mal. Guys who balance out talent and ego to get the job done. They then can create a team spirit and team players. To bring everyone along for the betterment of the outcomes that follow. Clearly Lattrel and others don't tick those boxes.
I’m sure mal is a good coach but let’s be honest, the Queensland side he coached was full of some of the goats of the game who would hardly need coaching and with the Aussie side likewise. If he turned the rabbits around, that would change my mind.

Bit weary about big Mal. Does everyone forget he was hired by the Titans as a culture consultant or something like that? Club coaching is very different to Origin and Test footy. They might be better hiring John Morris. Underrated coach, nurtured a lot of young talent at the Sharks.
Meninga for this group makes a lot of sense. He can get through to Mitchell and re-find the footy player he is.
It's over the footy player he was is now gone forever.
Even if they do get Meninga in and it’s for the short term, what happens after that?? Players will be like “oh well we have him for the next 6 months big deal”. That’s not long enough to fix what’s going on there. Seems like a quick fix band aid approach. If they get him it has to be on a multi year deal or not at all.

Don’t do it Mal. The current leadership will treat you in exactly the same way they are treating JD. This is a total fiasco. The conditions for the next coach of South’s to accept the job: 1. Sack the board 2. Sack the C-suite 3. Sack all the trouble maker players.
What about Trent Robinson? Rosters have arguably a better squad Manu,Sualii,Smith,Tedesco,Colins,Chriton,JWH and same record as Souths

Mel was a legend,But coaching an Aussie and queensland team full of stars ,is completely different to coaching a struggling team of NRL [players ..TO PLAY FOR Aussie and queensland ,you are the best to be in the side and already coached to get where you are

Personally, I feel that a coach that has a personal relationship with Latrell and Cody won't do Souths any good. Mag would be perfect for this job after he takes NSW this year as he's also a man manager who has nothing to lose. Let Latrell and Cody walk and rebuild the club. The way they're acting and performing no team will want to pay them more than 500K.
Gotta love Kent, says stuff as if it's 100%, but doesn't really know. I hope Big Mal does come in, because we need change unfortunately. I like Jason, but it isn't working and hasn't for a year now.

Not with the roster he would inherit, they're certainly not 16 internationals.
Big difference between coaching the best 17 players in the country for a few weeks, versus coaching a below average team for the remaining 20 odd weeks

Michael Hagen was the driving force behind QLD, Mal was the figure head at the top. His Canberra gig wasn’t successful was it.
Apart from 8 players everything from Mitchell to coaching staff, admin and board of directors are all second rate.

I think Mal will struggle if he get the job for south's With no experience coaching club level. He manage QLD & Australia with players full of talent and the best picked to try bring a team up in a club level it's totally different ball game. Sam Burgess should given an opportunity he will fix the attitude with the boys
