Why was rookie Lebron so disliked by his teammates?

Did you know that some of Lebron's teammates in his rookie year were also some of his haters. His coach at the time claims that that was perhaps his most impressive season because of the circumstances he had to endure.

  • Shaquille O'Neale was also one of those rookies who never (I think) experienced rookie hazing cause he was a big dude and acted as such. There was this story when a Scott Skiles told Shaq "Carry my bags rookie" and Shaq literally replied "I'm not a rookie, I'm the franchise". They left him alone after that. Pretty much sums up Diesel's career in the NBA.

Yeah they were a little too baggy, but from about 91/92 to about 2002 they were perfect length. Just above the kneecap, some guys wore longer ones, like TJ Ford he wore 7 footer shorts at barely 6’0 and looked hilarious, but still. 99% of the league had normal length shorts. They actually still looked like men. With the gay ass universal haircut in the NBA right now and their ‘75 shorty shorts, you QUITE LITERALLY can’t tell the difference between the NBA and the WNBA right now. Sit down. Most of the included GOAT nominees also have that mindset. Even curry thinks he’s the best point guard and that’s fine with me even if I think magic is better. How can you be the best if you’re thinking like a prey and not an apex predator. People are very insecure nowadays but they turned it into hate despite knowing that Lebron is continuously breaking records which might stay there for a long time. They were also just entering their peaks so natually they wanted to be "the guy", but now they were told that some kid out of high school who hadn't played an NBA minute was going to be "the guy". Their reaction is hilarious in hindsight, but also completely understandable. At least they matured enough to admit they were wrong. A lot more maturity and focus, and a vision for what he wanted. Just think about his career if he hadn't reuped with shitty Cleveland after the 1st four years. They wasted 7 years of his career bringing in Mo Williams and Antwan Jamison. That is what is shocking. He was literally put in the worst situation in league history as no team was as bad as the Cavaliers from 1990 to 2003. They had the worst ownership, were the worst destination for free agents, and had the worst players when he showed up. This rubbed a lot of veteran players who had pride and had to swallow that ego because before day 1 this was already the Bron show. With todays hype machine its tough to explain how much clout Bron had as a senior in HS.

    • The thing with Lebron was it was obvious he was ready to play in the NBA from day one. You dont pass on a talent like that and put him thrugh the haze system. Jealousy is a real thing and out of all people, vbeterans need to understand better than anyone else that talent is talent and there is nothing you can do about it, except for nurture it and not deliberately try to kill it and destroy it. They are called PROFFESIONALS for a reason. Them acting like some high school drama class queens just goes to show how unproffesional they were to begin with and why the Cleveland were in a position to even have a number 1 pick. I am glad humble Europeans like Jokic are dominating the league now because American players have been acting out like primadonas for too long. The NBA became a me me me first sport instead of a team sport where every player contributes. This ego problem with American players need to stop ASAP or soon Americans will start losing in international competition more and more.

I know he had some stomach issues but had he had his own team they would’ve been more willing to see him through to healing & becoming the player they expected Dejuan to be when drafted. The other point you mentioned about walking on eggshells around him is also true. But again, I put that on the coach and to a degree the Cavs org. Last point, the teammates supposedly not cheering. • They was jealous. Even before he came to the team they was talking about him like he was a normal rookie and he woukd have to go along with their program...Anytime you draft a franchise player the roles of other players change. The Cavs were the worst team I'm basketball.Their record was 17 wins amd 65 losses..The players already there were not getting the job done..Lebron was drafted as the franchise piece to change the entire direction of the team.He meant a lot being a local kid and being the best prospect since Micahel Jordan..The players were selfish, did not olay team ball and undisciplined....Michael Jordan did not het that reaction from his teamates..He came innthe league as the biggest attraction? Averaging over 27 points per game..Being talked about all the time. The Bulls did not react with jealousy they rolled with it.Magic Johnson came in under hoopla, BIRD came in the same way..A number of other players too like Ewing, Olajuwon, Shaq, Garnett, Allen Iverson, Carmelo, and others...The teamates embraced these guys..Cleveland had a bunch of selfish, spoiled and ineffective players who did not play team ball..Even Carlos Boozer was a rookie and backed out the next year on Cleveland because they allowed him out of his contract to renegotiate..Ricky Davis had a year averaging 20 points the year before LeBron but only shot 41% ..Lebron always treasured ILGAUSKAS because he treated him well hisbrookie year and he never forgot that..IF players would have acted like that when Jordan was a rookie they woukd have been gone too.I am from Chicago and have been watching the NBA since the late 70s

  • I remember not watching NBA basketball after the 98 finals. And one of the reasons was that many players of my generation (born in 79-83) were the products of the Jordan generation (those who grew up watching the Be Like Mike commercials). They had the ego but not the complete package to live up to MJ's talent and legacy. Only LeBron from that same generation did. Props to LeBron for having a great great career.

  • Gloria James did a great job or idk if it's just in his personality but Bron is so humble it's not even funny to go through all the hate and people just waiting for you to fail but you just keep succeeding in life and also the game show how mental though he is I never even heard LeBron talk bad about anyone he never been in trouble with the law he a good dad and husband idk how he do it but I'm glad I got to witness his greatness and he still going on strong

  • When he scored his thirteenth backet in the second season. His teammates acted like they smelled a fart. Some friends ran a train on his mom?

  • Same as the spurs with wemby

  • And i feel the same way happening right now with wembanyama at spurs. His teammates seem to deliberately ignore him in the game and not pass him ball for an easy bucket.
