Jim's Collection - 60 years of Diecast Cars and Trucks - Part I
Meet my neighbor, Jim. He is a man just like me, only he was born 60 years earlier and lived a life full of experiences not many are still around to tell about, let alone with a mind just as sharp as it was when he entered the Second World War in 1945 as a young man. Jim and I live across the street from one another, and have for many years. In all this time and through our friendship it has been one of my greatest desires to film him with his immense collection of vintage diecast toys, most of which he collected decades ago and lovingly displays in his basement, just as I do. Jim is a wonderful man, with a heart bigger then an elephants, and full of memories and stories that could fill thousands of pages in a fine print book. Jim is 91 years old, lives on his own, has outlived the only two women he has ever loved in his life, and drives his Buick daily to visit his many close children. If you like this video, please, leave a personal message for Jim, as I will be sharing them with him, although presently he is not very familiar with the internet, let alone KZhead. He does look forward to the messages that I have told him he will receive from around the world from my many, wonderful, like-minded viewers, so let's make that come true! Thank you all.

+John Byrd It was truly a privilege to explore his collection hands on. Jim and I discussed the video at parameters beforehand, and he did warm up to the experience as the interview continues (in total it was 4 hours, but I have edited it down to 30 minutes or so, which I will release on KZhead weekly for the next month.
So glad you shared, I'm 50years old old nd I have to say, Corgi, and Mtachbox, I held on to a few! Thank you Jim, You did what I Wanted to do!.. I had thousands of Matchboxes and 1/25th scale I loved

Just finding this video. This is an amazing collection. Jim sounds like a amazing man, and I have so much respect for him. He is from a very tough generation and I hope Jim is still around and collecting.
Wish I had a neighbor like that. Awesome die cast with great life stories to tell! I hope to be as half as sharp as he is if I make it to 91! Welcome to the internet and KZhead Jim, thank you for sharing!

What a quiet, modest man, who's achievements will probably never be fully known. My very best wishes to him!
I love KZhead for things like this, we woldn't know it existed
Great collection and man. He speaks of 50 60 years as if it was last week. He's lived..
He is amazing, very sharp man.

Lovely chat between 2 great guys. Thanks for sharing. 😃👍
that's a wonderful thing sharing a love of collecting with someone from a different generation. it's a bridge to bring people together. and now the things you've learned from him. not just Diecast, will be with you forever and I'm sure, will be pasted on to others. just because of little toy cars!!! that's why I collect also, to connect with others!!! thank you and Jim!!! AMAZING life and collection!!!
Thank You For Your Service and Allied Forces Sacrifice Jim...Great Collection of History. Thanks WTFFOR For KZhead Documenting this Collection. Best Of KZhead!!!
Awesome collection..... ty for your service Jim!!
Bless you Jim, what a brilliant and beautiful collection, some of your pieces I remember as a boy.
Amazing collection of an amazing man, I thank you deeply Jim, you've made the world a better place.
Love this video and love talking to the old timers like Jim. When I was 20ish I spent a lot of time around WW II vets and heard some incredible stories: One guy was in Germany, most of the others were in the Pacific. One of them served on a submarine. These guys were all like Jim, some of the happiest and friendliest guys around. I think they saw so many horrors of war that it made them just grateful to be alive and able to enjoy the simple things in life (like collecting die-casts). Anyways, thanks for posting the video.
I hope this wonderful gentleman is still alive. He's so alert and a very elegant gent. Most people with these collections are extremely picky, but his collection looks a little haphazard, and he allows the interviewer to really paw his stuff.
Great collection of diecast history very NICE short documentary on a WW2 veteran Jim also.
God bless this gentleman!
What a fascinating guy. Wow.
What a collection!
From one Trucker to another...From one collector to another....Major props sir! NEVER TO OLD TO COLLECT.. neverrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Fun to see this classy gentleman collect die cast cars....I'm 12 and started the collection in early April Good luck Jim , may you collect foreve
Great collection thanks for putting this on KZhead hi from Lancashire England
Wow! Tell Jim my father was an officer aboard the H.M.S. Illustrious with the far east fleet during WWII. What an awesome collection! I started in 1965 when my grandfather came over from England and brought a huge case of them, and Dinkys with him. I was smitten right then and there. I have close to 5,000 die cast and the majority are now Hot Wheels, but my heart remains faithful to Corgi and Dinky. Jack Canada
Thanks to Jim doing his part to save the world ! Without these brave soldiers prevailing in WW2....who knows how different the world would have turned out. Freedom is priceless!!! Great collection ! Thanks for sharing.
Still like watching this series once a year or so!
now thats a true collector...thank both for sharing
Older video, new collector. USA based, 44 years old with a 4 year old son. I love old VW's so Volkswagen, Audi and Porsche is what I force my son to collect, haha. I love how you just want to touch each one, get good shots of them, etc... and yet you're semi-restrained and very respectful.
Amen to this Guy! Thanks Jim for your service! Not many men left from WW2 to tell these stories!! Just amazing! What a amazing collection!!
What an incredible man.
Wow, thank him for his service and for hanging on to some gorgeous vehicles. Privileged to bear witness to this mans collection.

I am a Canadian Law Enforcement Officer, and I am delighted to see your collection, Jim. Thank you for your service to us Canadians, Brits, and Americans, and please keep up the great work, as well as you "wtffor." I love seeing these collections in such great condition, and with such a thorough and intimate history as you have with many of them. Cheers, gentlemen.

Jim you are the man,The best diecast collection that i have ever seen.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Wow! My Grandfather was also in the war (US Navy) aboard the Carrier USS St. Lo, that was hit by a kamikaze and sank. He was the guy that set the cables to catch the planes when they landed. Thanks for your service, sir!

What a treasure to have Jim around to share with you, and then yourself to share with all of us. Please extend our thanks to this gentleman our great appreciation- it means a lot to pass this kind of stuff on. Wonderful!

What an exceptional collection of memories. This collection is a great treasury comparable to oral storytelling.... My opinion may be exaggerated but truly amazing! Wow! A living encyclopedia! Cheers and thank you for sharing. Best post I've ever seen! Double the gratitude! Take care
thanks for sharing your neighbors collection, its a joy watching and seeing two collectors share the love of the hobby
Thanks Jim :)
Great guy with loads of life stories to be told. I love how vague he is about the toy collection yet remembers the war like yesterday. Memory is recall, and his mind is still there in 1943. Seriously had all my favourites that I owned. The Pink Panther Mobile, Space 1999 craft, UFO interceptor, Bond space shuttle, Dinky Stalwart, Centurion tank and trailer, Rocket firing halftrack, Kubelwagon and field gun. My dad bough me something new every 2 weeks, I had most of the best Dinky and Corgi's around. I destroyed them all in play. What a wasteful kid I was.
Great collection. Thanks for sharing with us Jim
I have some dinky toys... but damn... that is sweet...just amazing.. Love hearing his stories of days gone by..

Love his classic collection and his wonderful story. What a tough war to live through. My grand dad lived though Japan and the Philipenes in '43-45.i hope when he passes someone with a respectful passion will keep the collection and maintain it.What an honor to know and see this man and his 60 year hobby.
Good Lord this is awesome
