Maybe you’ve heard about Chinese tattoo fails where people intend to get Chinese tattoos that say something inspiring but their tattoo artist mistakenly puts something unintentionally funny on their body instead. Well, today I got “Kung Pao chicken” 宫保鸡丁 tattooed on my body, and Chinese people naturally gossip about it. But then I surprise them by understanding their gossip and speaking perfect Mandarin!

I’ve seen both sides and it is devastating to know that some people do it out of pity. Seriously just surround yourself with good people and real friends. You will eventually get to the point where when you see people they are happy to see you too. Don’t know if that’s what you needed to hear or anything but just wanted to give you a little advice. ❤️

He told me he went to a tattoo parlor for a Chinese tattoo and when flipping through the catalog the artist gave him, it was in his words "it was as if I was struck with divine revelation and those two words on the book was to be my destiny." He then said "wait, you recognize these words, please tell me what they mean." I told him the words meant "table"(桌子), looking absolutely defeated he asked if it had any other meaning, I told him it could also mean "desk", lastly he asked if he could fix it and my friend butted in to say "you can add "chairs"(椅子) to make it a full set."

There it's basically the other way round: they'll wear shirts for example with completely meaningless English sentences. For example, "THINK LESS. STUPID MORE." - which is probably a messed up translation to the tune of "follow your heart" or "don't overthink, have fun".

I’ve been studying Japanese for years but I’m still at a very kindergarten level bc I can’t get myself to just go out and practice with real people. I get way too embarrassed. To me the being a polyglot isn’t the most impressive, it’s the ease with which he is able to practice with real human connections 🤧

    • Learning and speaking a language can be very hard if you're introverted, and I've had difficulty in feeling confident enough to speak Spanish with other people. My main tip to you is just try your best, and even if you get some words wrong, most people who speak Japanese would be happy that you were giving an effort and trying to learn. Maybe you could try talking to people online in lessons or just trying to find Japanese speaking individuals? It's less stressful to try to speak when you're anonymous over the internet lol

    • Sorry I rambled so much (٥↼_↼) I remember the app HelloTalk being pretty good for talking w/ ppl in other languages;; I remember there also being a pen-pal app that could also be helpful Even if you don't go out to talk to ppl, you could try to find some ppl to talk to online, it can probably help a lot - but also remember to be careful! I say this but I'm also too shy and don't rly do that either 😅 I'd personally recommend trying to think in Japanese (and any other language you're learning) more often [be careful of being lost in translation tho! 😅] and if there's any particular activity you like that can incorporate the language then try to do that (I find it helps watching e.g anime/jdramas w/ Japanese subtitles (occasionally Chinese subtitles include Japanese - never rly officially learn to read Chinese (few yrs of Chinese school on Sundays but I could kinda already read/speak decently by then + never rly stuck w/ me since I still suck at writing 😭), it was mostly thanks to subtitles (somehow) (*˘︶˘*) I remember always seeing 四川大地震 on TVB and it was just stuck in my head for a ve~ry long time) ANYWAY, yeah, try to find sth comfortable for you! I'm currently reading a lot of manga on Jump+ - I still find katakana difficult even tho a lot of English speakers seem to find katakana easier than hiragana.... BUT ✧◝(⁰▿⁰)◜✧ for kanji I've got my CN knowledge and occasionally furigana.....and I occasionally use a translator + a quick google search (I seem to keep on forgetting 怪我 since I keep on noting it down...) [I just remembered sth and kinda wanted to say "mangas are nice, but light novels are also kinda rly good" (been kinda hooked on Spy Classroom and NPC village, but I'm reading them in ENG) ...I keep on forgetting that I have a (light ?) novel version of Satsuten from that rly awkward trip to Osaka - maybe now I can finally read it w/ ease!! (◍•▿•◍)✧*。- never actually finished reading that...... also never actually started watching the anime either - I prefer manga Rachel over game and anime because the artist was like obsessed w/ drawing her hair and I loved it] yeah I'm tired so imma stop here before i don't. ....... but I also rly wanna say it kinda helps watching Japanese KZheadrs: Satomi-kun (St. Pri)'s playthrough of mama ni aitai (I think) was pretty good, and he voiced all the dialogue so it was rly easy for me to understand;; I also watch Colon but....idk..;; oh yeah, I love Jel's 遠井(Toofar) series♡ ;; Riinu's cute. ... Riinu's cute. I like Riinu but I don't rly watch their channel much... ;; Oh, and I rly like Root-kun's songs~ [just didn't feel right to not mention everyone 😤 ...(minus the purple bunny)] Retort (レトルトさん) [I'm still finding it hard to believe he got a collab w/ CrayShin] and honestly probably all SaiOre members are a nice choice (I kinda only watch him and Kiyo tho) since they used and kinda still do, play a lot of dialogue heavy games : I rly like that majority vote death game~~ (対数判決デスゲーム) [Occasionally, they do tend to skip some dialogue {and I find it a little annoying since I'm the type who reads everything} but it's kinda fine for me] I rly like Hanae Natsuki's 'Darkness' series w/ Ono Kensho and Eguchi Ta- - they even managed to have an UNO button made! (˃͈ + ˂͈ ༶ ) [花江夏樹、小野賢章、江口拓也 and most guests on his channel are voice actors, so if you watch anime, you might be able to recognise them (''' ˊᵕˋ ''') - Eguchi's currently voice acting as Loid in SpyxFamily] Obey Me! - the fanbase is super quick;; honestly haven't been playing the game since it does use quite a lot of storage, but it's a pretty good otoge;; I usually only tune in to the livestreams, but they also have a radio podcast and other fun stuff~ Honestly, I like VTubers, but I rly don't have the time to go through all those livestreams so I wouldn't know who to recommend, but a lot of them are bilingual if not more SoraTheTroll : er...helps to know what you probably shouldn't do I love songs so I follow quite a lot of artists including utaites and vocaloid producers - I find songs to be an easy way to learn once you find sth suitable [Royal Scandal series is so good - Rahwia (hope I'm not remembering the wrong person, I don't remember illustrators well enough 😣), 奏音69 and Luz (also ft. Megurine Luka) - I rly liked the word play and the stories (+ OBNN's cover of Queen of Hearts did hype it up a bit for me) Also Deco*27's recent Mannequin album 😍 Oh, and Ado's White Day song!! (永遠のあくる日 - eien no akuru hi) It's literally like a reply to GiraGira that released on Valentine's a yr (or two?) ago]

Love, peace, prosperity, etc. afaik they were correct because a chinese friend of his helped make the sheets... Then there was the *other* sheet. It was the "dirty" kanji, things like "wind from the bowels" and "violent diarrhea" and "golden shower" among others.

They don't have trouble communicating, they just never learned to read for whatever reason. I went to school with a kid whose parents immigrated from China. Obviously he spoke his parents' language fluently (I think it was Cantonese), but had to go to a chinese school in order to learn how to read it.

    • Sometimes people don't notice when they change back to their first language, because it is too natural. I'm from Brazil and had a childhood friend whose first language was Spanish. There where MANY times in which he spoke sentences or words and Spanish and thought he was still speaking in Portuguese. Also, my mom once was reading a magazine at an airplane that was written in English in one page and in Portuguese on the other. She was reading it in English to improve her vocabulary, but as she turned the page, she continued to read in Portuguese and it took her minutes she noticed it.
