The sub hour is 100% doable with no mistakes, a riskier end strat and nice rng and despite the layers of rng this run is quite fun, so I might go for it sooner rather than later...

Lower difficulty helps. The difference between WOAH mode and the other difficulties is MASSIVE
To be honest, my friend built a huge base. Really amazing stuff. However, our gear was trash, the base itself kept getting in the way, and we didn't use any particular cheese strategies. We didn't know how to properly fight the dust mites. This was all in mild mode btw. I want to say, it is harder with a group, but I saw this man pummel so many insects and fortify the whole thing single-handedly where I would have struggled. There is clearly skill required here, but it definitely helps to at least have SOME semblance of knowledge of the fight. Don't be blind idiots like me and my friends.

I love this game! Seeing you navigate it with such reckless expertise is fun as hell to watch! I learned a few techniques from watching this. I didn't know how powerful the Spikey Sprig was when thrown. If someone beats this record, I would be shocked! If sub 1 hour is possible, it would have to be by sacrificing certain items that were crafted at the end. It's insane how focused you stayed.
That's dope, glad you enjoyed! Hucking spiky sprigs is very good yeah, although that has taken a slight hit with the recent update that added a stagger cooldown. Damage is unaffected though. Sub hour is definitely doable! Could have had it in this run I think but I didn't have enough sap for the workbench twice which cost a lot of time and I lost some time at the end by respawning at the wrong place then missing the jump up out of the mystery machine. That new stagger cooldown might make the final defense a lot harder but I haven't tried it yet so we'll see. Haha yeah hadn't thought of that. I made a save on a good rng practice run at the same spot as 35:50 so I could practice the end so when I finally got good rng on an actual run I knew what I was doing. After watching 2 minutes of that I noticed I lost even more time to not having enough sap for the smithing station and having to empty my inventory mid craft. I remember now that was one tiny section I never got as clean as I could

Sat and watched this at 12 at night here in the uk a few days ago and I was so impressed that I actually told my mates about this and told them to go watch it. Me and 2 of my mates each have a grounded solo world and I think watching this speed run actually helped me progress faster in my own game and become the farthest into the game of my friends even though I started almost a day after them.

Funny enough, I'm the only friend in my group who watches any speedruns or guides, but it was my best friend who doesn't do any of that, doesn't use guides, didn't play this game at all, or have any spectacular armor or gear. *He just kept trying to progress the story. He has an killer focus and an iron will that I will never truly understand.* For what it's worth, I gathered a lot of the upgrade materials and pretty much became the tank of the group. Any boss battle, any raid battle, I was invincible. I just...REALLY suck at actually completing the story or solving puzzles. Maybe that's why my best friend is so good. He's a huge Legend of Zelda fan. I'm more of the Minecraft and Hi-Fi Rush guy.

Bro, this is so flipping a m a z i n g!!! I was looking for a speedrun a while ago and wondered because there wasn't one :D .. Big ups for the parry timing, so satisfying lol I started a final playtrough with friends a few weeks ago and on Wednesday we got to the point of what you did in about 40min lol! I've been playing EA for quite a while, after the pond update again, a few new games here and there ... overall idk 300+h. I always knew this game was perfect for a speedrun, with the parkour you can do, but holy molar, I underestimated it, so hard :D Had to skip before you entered the Shed Lab because I don't want to be spoilered you know haha, but I will come back and watch it again, all the way to the end for sure! 🐜🕷 One question though how did you manage to respwan at the oak field station after the haze lab part?
Thanks! Although Zylo has been doing them for a while, they can be hard to find if you don't know what to search for. Here's his channel www.youtube.com/@zylo4029/videos Haha that's brave watching a story speedrun when you haven't finished it yet! Fair enough if you just stopped where you got up to though. So a field station only becomes a respawn point when you look at it and it pops up on-screen saying "you discovered field station". If you look away as you walk up to a field station so you don't get that message pop up, you can interact with everything in there but it won't become a respawn point. So at 1:38 you see me look down and I don't discover it, at 3:43 I discovered the one near the oak, at 6:50 I discovered the stinkbug one, I respawned from black ant lab at 25:06 and oak is closest so I spawn there. I only needed to spawn at the oak once so at 26:22 I finally discover the one at the start, which I actually wanted to do because it should have given me natural explorer (it didn't because I didn't get pond dome so I unlocked it at the mix.r).
Just finished watching the whole run. Crazy to think this game is beat able within such a short amount of time, but that’s speedrunning for you. Well done on the run!
This was obviously glitchless too, not sure what the glitched time could be but I know it'll be nuts to try and optimise! Could've had the sub hour in this run but twice I didn't have enough sap for the workbench and both times I didn't think to relocate the bench and bring the blueprint with me so it didn't cost quite as much time. I love how despite running around and being extremely fast, you still have those little awkward moments with no stamina. 😭 The little annoyed shake of the camera at 21:24 made me laugh and I choked on my drink lmao.
Hahaha I forgot about that, that was quite an intense one. I try to always make sure I have a minimum amount of stamina when I need it but do still occasionally end up in those awkward moments!

Great work and congrats on the record! I'll probably be looking back on this video quite a bit and any other speedrunning resources/channels on Grounded for a more casual "brisk walk" playthrough. I did have some small questions at a couple of points in the run where I didn't quite get what was going on in the run: -Throughout the course of the run you would give up "randomly," were those deaths just to top off your health instead of using/wasting granola to heal? And did those deaths also kind of serve as a way to drop useless resources -Nearing the Haze split at 17:37 why did you drop all of your granola at the entrance of the busted pipe when you pick them back up as you leave? I honestly have no clue on this one. -Right after splitting for Oak2 at 26:00 what's the purpose of saving the game and immediately loading? Does it have anything to do with potentially better rng for the BOBs for the hammer? Aside from that I have no idea. -Silly one but, do you have space or something bound to the mouse scroll wheel or are you just that gamer at mashing through the dialogue? Great work on this once again, best of luck to whatever else you may be up to. I would suggest some wacky run ideas but you've done most of the big things like boss speedruns and the achievements Peep everything and 100% sound rough to speedrun.
Cheers Tyshroi! My intent with "giving up" is always to save time, like at 35:52, it saves a bit of time over running back to the baseball bat. I messed up at the very end by respawning at my lean-to instead of kid case which cost some seconds. Can save more time again there by giving up and respawning at field station after respawning at kid case. I do give up at 39:15 to drop granolas and most javamatic ingredients otherwise I have to drop them then pick them all up again individually. I can't think of anywhere else I give up to drop resources, usually craft any items as soon as possible, like the acorn shovel any time before hedge lab because I wanna scan clay at the pond outpost. 17:37: Granolas don't stay in your inventory when you respawn but I want them for the AssMan fight and respawning at the lean-to there skips the swim back through the tunnel. 26:00: We use the recover backpacks option in the game repair menu twice and you can only use it once per load of a save, so a quick save and load let's us do it again. Bug loot rng is determined when they spawn which I assume happens across the map when you first start the world. For spamming through dialogue, you can press the number keys to select a dialogue option as well as spacebar so I just mash 1 and spacebar, no remapping or auto clickers or anything. Thanks a lot, might be this again actually because the sub hour is so possible but I did get Hogwarts installed yesterday sooo... I do wanna *almost* complete Grounded in a speedrunning sense, so good ending, just Schmector, redo Mant cause my Mant run is a meme at this point, Mantis and then an all bosses run, including minor bosses like termite king and widow.
You can get a toxicology badge in the pond mission it's near the submerged fan. It gives gas resist, can be used in the next mission Haze, it can save your chocolates bars and even some time.

I'd have to use them to get through the haze to the haze lab front door compared through the exposed pipe which cost me 0 granola bars

@@GameNix On its own it's not very good and it won't reduce damage taken any further if paired with the badge because that's already hitting minimum damage threshold (can see in the post). Plus I'd need to get a tier 2 shovel or hammer to get the mints for the mutation which I think would take longer than getting a bone dagger and going through exposed pipe to haze lab. Sorry!

Holy man... this is insane imo. Ive never speedran this game and i feel like if i tried i wouldnt be able to do it. Yesterday on one of my newer worlds i was hesitant to fight a bombardier beetle because i didnt know if i had the right gear or not lol.
Start small and work your way up! That's what I did at least, first with the wolf spider, then super chips, then broodmother etc. Just gotta yolo into some dumb situations to find out what happens and hopefully find a way to make it work haha. Bombardiers messed me up for the longest time tbf so I'm not judging!

My whole life ive been in love with speed running games first WR i held was on goldeneye 😂 i just beat grounded with my fiance yesterday incredible story and an idea ive always loved since watching honey, i shrunk the kids seen this video a couple times in my feed and decided against watching for spoilers but man im glad i finally get to enjoy this little piece of content that for some reason means a alot to me i can tell your very good at video games and i can tell theres still a few time saves and the run isnt quite optimized i can see you hitting sub 1hr i might study this run and maybe a few other and put together my own little run i am however an xbox player as of now so that complicates thing a bit but well see what happens for now im going to kick back and watch this run at least 20 times thanks codzta ❤

Haven't watched this since posting it so I'm keen to get back into it soon and see if I notice any strats that could be improved. There is a slight time save Zylo has used where when you respawn at kid case at the end of the run, you can give up immediately and respawn at field station so you're closer to the mystery machine, saves about 10 seconds. Oh yeah I messed up a bit at the end too by respawning at the wrong place which cost me about 5 seconds. Hope you have fun with it! Weird but yeah wide interaction seems to fail me more than it does me good but a its a necessary evil haha and would the new route up the hedge save time? Seems like just a second if it does but looks alot easier to complete did my first run yesterday and was stopped at the haze lab because the door to the boss stayed closed for some reason definitely got a little heated and had to put it down for a day haha

the biggest thing for this run is going to be the use of the flinging thing the physics does sometimes. I havent been able to do it on purpose. it just happens. but the random feeling one (likely less consistent) is where a large bug pushes grass and it clips under you then flings you into the air. The second method, which is more passable, is where ive noticed a few times when i walk over a pile of grass planks i can get one to launch me into the air, though not as high. Still good air though.
Zylo actually found a consistent launch using the grass door! streamable.com/r2bq3j Glitched runs combining that with getting out of bounds (also with the door which you can see in the 8 minute Mant run on my channel) can potentially crush all glitchless runs, just need way better rng

You should definitely do group speedrun; that would be fun to see. It was really fun watching but what's with the weapon throwing? Is it just gor attack speed with mallets? I presume it only works with them because of how slow they are and the combo outputs lower dps(?)
Yeah co-op runs have been talked about for a while, maybe I should get on and finally do one... Clubs and spears just do crazy damage when thrown and they're so easy to get early on. Sure I could kill an ox faster with a maxed out morning star but that's obviously not feasible in a speedrun. Spiky sprigs actually stagger enemies when thrown at them too so it makes the fights a lot easier

Haha thrown clubs just do crazy damage for some reason and each tier does the same damage, so spiky sprigs are great for that. Thanks! I do! I wanna see some new strats for the sub hour and be forced to clean up this run to take the record back

Welcome! It has been nerfed yeah, plus this was on mild so if you're on medium there's the nerf and difficulty making your spears worse than in this run

Still trying to figure out how you keep your inventory when you die or how you getting equipment without crafting them or getting all the ingredients for them
When you die and respawn your crafted items (and gum for some reason) stay in your inventory. Then to keep the rest of your inventory you can respawn at kid case then use the recover backpacks option in game repair in the pause menu. You can do that once per load of a save so to do it multiple times just save and load and you can do it again. As for crafting stuff without all the ingredients I don't know what you mean, can you timestamp where it happens so I can explain it?

@@benjaminhortie Which custom options do you think are on? Menus pause the game is on by default on mild. And can you timestamp where I crafted something without getting the ingredients or not? Back when I recorded this run, everything unlocked and free was combined in one option so if that was turned on, you'd see every recipe in my crafting menu and it wouldn't require any ingredients to craft stuff when it clearly does
Random question why drop pupa hide then off yourself then respawn? And with ur sprig club u toss and pick up?
Okay this is longwinded but I'm struggling to answer your question quickly. The obvious option is to run to the field station, analyse the pupa, then run back. The run back is about 20 seconds though so I can skip it by setting my spawn by the baseball bat and respawning after analysing the pupa. This would leave all my stuff at the field station though so I respawn straight after setting my spawn to drop my backpack. The hammer only needs 10 pupa but if I respawn after analysing the pupa it will get dropped there, so I collect an extra one which only gets used for analysing. Overall this saves 10-15 seconds. Hope that explains that! And with the spiky sprigs, thrown clubs all do the same damage so the spiky sprigs do really good damage for an early game weapon. They also have great stun so stun basically everything in just a few throws.
Everything else is kind of simple since it's all open, I'm just amazed about the hedge. It took 30 seconds to get through that, it takes me 10 minutes to get from the field station to the bird bath

They're there mostly to provide some background info and help you understand the story, but you also need to collect all of them if you want the achievement for 100%

Heck yeah, go for it! Happy to help if you ever have any questions. To quickly get good at parrying first save your game, then in the pause menu go into game settings, swap it to a custom game and turn off the player damage, hunger/thirst drain and equipment durability settings. They changed it so with player damage turned off you can still parry even though you'd take no damage anyway. Practice parrying against whichever creature(s) you want and when you're done just reload that save you made at the start to reenable achievements

I was at the point when you start the mixer without building anything & quater of the health in mixers module... i was like, may be for you it is plenty... You going to finish the game without building anything... It was Awsome speedrun man... You set an new milestone to entire grounded community... I don't know how many decades that people are gooing to take to beat this speedrun...
It's funny you say that because I just fought a wolf spider today for what feels like the first in months, so it does seem like they've been avoiding me! Not having the sap there was devastating, it was an almost perfect run but I just didn't have enough sap. Such a small thing to lose so much time to. Thanks! Hopefully it doesn't take that long to beat! I wanna see it done in under an hour sooner rather than later

Amazing video dude, just got into grounded 2 weeks ago does the Hammer Throwing thing still works? And would it do more damage if I use a weapon that insects are Weak against? 🤔
Yeah should be fine! I think the only thing that's changed is that they added a stagger cooldown to creatures now, so throwing weapons won't stun lock anything anymore, but they do the same amount of damage and stun so an ox for example will still get stunned after 4 throws or whatever
And as to matching the weakness, clubs do weirdly high thrown damage so a spiky sprig is better than an insect hammer for ladybugs for example. Haven't thoroughly tested all thrown weapons so there may be some outliers

I get where you're coming from, the confusion could be funny. They would have no idea what super chips are though so it would be kind of lost on them. That's just me finishing the game with them clueless along for the ride

Great speed run. Takes me like an hour to even start the game. Question: How do you through they sprig to deal that much damage and how did you not agro some of those black widows at the end?

@@zooisgoingbananas7518 Do you mean 40:40? Think that's the only time I see a widow and it must have turned away just as I was about to enter its vision. This run was on mild so that'll help with the damage. I turn on the wide interact option in accessibility settings to make it easier to pick the sprig up right as it hits the enemy. Also, if you throw it directly at the creature it can bounce off in a pretty random direction so look down a bit while throwing them and they'll bounce more back towards you

36:31 wait how did you craft that Black Ox Hammer without actually drying the Pupa Hide into Pupa Leather?
As well as drying it on the jerky rack you can craft pupa leather at 5 pupa hide each. I grabbed 11 hide so I could drop ten in my backpack when I respawned and use one just for analysing so I could respawn again and skip the walk back from the field station to the baseball bat, saves like 15-20 seconds I think
@@HolyCodzta honestly I never noticed that recipe XD. Just beat the game for the first time a couple days ago with 130+ hours and uh...yeah, didn't see that. Granted, it's not a great return on investment for casual play, but that was really clever use here. Great run, btw. It was really cool seeing all those respawn strats to basically teleport across the map.
@@jedimasterpickle3 It used to be a rare bit of knowledge that you could dry berry chunks on a jerky rack but nowadays I often see it the other way around! Haha nice, at least you weren't grinding pupa and crafting them the whole time thinking "man this is expensive." Thanks! Most people don't like that and see it as a bit cheesy so it's nice to have someone appreciate it. Saves so much running time it's unreal
@@HolyCodzta It's funny I actually forgot that a Tier 3 hammer is needed for the SCA.B so I was really confused when I started seeing you fight Black Ox Beetles like "no way they're going to build a jerky rack and dry pupa chunks for leather". I think also when my group first analyzed the berry chunks what popped up was the jerky rack method, and so when it came time for pupa leather, it was just a matter of finding the termites.
Hmmm it does sound a bit ridiculous but a jerky rack isn't too hard to get and I'd only need to collect 2 pupa hide instead of 11. Just would need to sleep to dry it quickly. Wouldn't discover that field station so would need to run there from java to scan mushroom bricks before the final defense. Could work though so I might look into it proper when I go for sub hour. Oh right haha, that's really interesting cause yeah using the rack for berries was always like insider info

Everything is incredibly cool no doubt, but i still cant get over the fact that YOU CAN THROW THE BOMBS?! Everytime i use those dang things my character just drops it at his feet! Lmao
You can throw them! Look for a "huck" button in the bottom right when holding them and stop blowing up your feet
