The problem is...I can't fake the fact that I really don't care about how they feel about the their work or the weather or their first job. Small talk is just so forced...which makes it uncomfortable.
You lost me at blah blah blah!!
Small talk is forced if that’s what you make it. I use small talk to be present and make a conscious effort to try and learn about said persons life. Small talk is 100% necessary if you wanna get to learn about somebody, embrace it
this response is so funny because the commenter says their problem with these questions is they don’t care about the answers and your response is basically “well if you just care about the answers!!!!!!” 😂 like, i don’t though. i just do not care what the answers are lol.
My advice is to work on that. The problem could be your not seeing their humanity. We are all very similar in the end and have a lot of the same challenges. Class and politics don’t change it that much. There is a cycle of life and that is something to relate to.
Hmm.. small talk with u will be tuff.
Hi Emma. This is absolutely a great way to practice real English. Yeas, I hope that you'll focus on discussing each category in the coming lessons. I know lots of vocabulary, but the problem is that I don't always know how to use each word naturally, that's why I extremely push for discussing each case separately.
Your way of teaching is so amazing, you're a great lecturer and a brilliant teacher. I'm really into your teaching style
I'm an English teacher myself (not native though) and I love the way you plan your lesson, very well-organized and easy for learners to follow. I'm thinking of including this lesson into my class next time. Keep up your good work!
I deeply appreciated the various ideas through your class today, Emma.
Thank you so much for these videos Emma! I'm an English coach and I make it a point to share your videos with my students :)
🌹
Emma, I love your videos, 'cause I can understand without subtitles and I can improve myself with your tips. Thank you!
"I'm awful at small talk" - that's actually a quite good conversation starter :D
Haha self deprecation
Eh
This is... OK. Me 😄
Hi
I live in upper middle class San Francisco... It's either really good. Or you just got yourself judged.
Hi, Emma! Thank you for another great lesson. I understand every your word and I am fond of it, and it's because of your work here on KZhead. So cool!
Hi Emma, thanks a million for this! I'm a Brazilian guy living in the US since 2014 and I've always hated small talks, mostly because, even though living for few years now, still don't speak well. But thanks to you and your videos, this is changing.
I's been so amazing to listen/watch this episode before meeting a someone new. I can't appreciate enough for your hard work by focusing students like us.
It is a great lesson.
Hello Emma, personally speaking, I love your way of conversing with us with your precious knowledge and experience about English language. I really wanna learn to speak words with such a gentle tone and confidence that you present in your videos. Indeed, happy and motivated watching your videos. Wishing you a very happy new year in early.😊

Hi Emma! I have taught Japanese students for over 35 years. In Japan, small talk is not common with strangers (as in a party). I remember one of my students telling me how excited she was, going to her first international party. The following day, I asked her how the party went, and she said "Not good." When I asked her why, she said, "No one talked to me." Of course, if she had tried STARTING a conversation, thinks could have turned out much differently. I am now once again, at the behest of another Japanese student, starting to teach the art of small talk, which you have so wonderfully captured on this video. I love your bright-eyed, friendly, personable and light approach to small talk. I couldn't stop watching you engage your audience with so much positivity and energy. I have assigned this video as homework for my Japanese student, and will use it in our next lesson. Two thumbs up. 👍👍Thank you so much, Emma !
did anybody try to engage with that student?
I love that part of Japanese culture. Introverts are admired and small talk is not something required in social situations. In the U.S it seems the louder , chattier people in the room are the most envied.🤔
I like your way of explaining... most appreciated... Lucky who tie with you
One of the most interesting and informative lecture about everyday life ..the way you speaking or give a lecture is amazing and help us a lot to built our pronunciation better ..Wish you a happy life ..And waiting for more informative videos..Thanku Best wish from Pakistan 🇵🇰
I'm hooked! Thank you so much for these wonderful topics and ways to teach English. A great resource for someone who teaches English to Japanese students! I love it!
Thanks a lot for sharing such a pragmatic class. It's really great.
Hello Emma Learning English with you is the best of both worlds! This lesson is absolutely comfortable. I am about to talk to my Australian colleague at my office. Thanks a bunch for teaching me. I am grateful to have a teacher like you.😊❤️
thanks a bunch? i like this expression but i think it is used for negative meaning... isn't it?
I really appreciates your efforts teacher Emma. Thankful for what you did.
How could you say that...
I read an article many years ago in Seventeen Magazine when I was in high school. It stated you can make more friends in two months by being interested in other people than you can in two years by trying to get other people interested in you. Love this video! Excellent suggestions.
Great saying
What a great way to start a day! I couldn't have asked for more than this ☺️

Hello! SO I spent time in an infantry unit which deployed to Baghdad in 2p08, And I must admit that I had become quite reclusive in nature for some time after then. On top of communications progress, I can literally feel my confidence growing in enabling myself to "small talk," once again! I appreciate the topic tips! I look forward to practicing! BEST, Chris

Hii Emma I started watching your vedios just a month ago, and you addicted me.. I've downloaded so many videos and I repeat watching it (even if i don't have network connections, I keep going). I love your way of talking, thinking and teaching. Your Expressions and pronunciations are really great. Love and prayers from Kerala.
Thank you so much for this lesson, you are very nice teacher, your method is so brilliant.
Good afternoon madam I appreciate your all English lessons and smiles
😊
Spontaneity is key..if small talk sounds planned or structured, small talk becomes smaller...
I agree. You gotta be a little brave and defensively joyful against strong rejection. I don't agree with Emma; It really takes being a little bit of an a hole, but still nice. If one can't spontaneously read and react amusingly, the other person's probably not having as much fun as they would be chilling alone. 😁
Hello, Emma nice to meet you. I just saw your video and listen to it. You're giving a great example to continue our chat. That's awesome. Because I always stuck in the middle of a conversation. Your ideas are really helpful. Thank you so much. I subscribe to your channel too 😍

This is the first time that I am in your channel, and I am shockeddd, I appreciate your work, you are soooo positive and a very pleasant person, it’s very pleasant to hear your voice❤️❤️❤️❤️🥰🥰🥰🥰 Kisses from Armenia🥰❤️
Welcome to my channel, Milena! It's lovely to meet you ❤️
Thanks too much for focusing in this topic, alot of people wasted his time and focus thinking how to go on like others in conversations, the key is small talk, it's the way how people be social and make relationships,🥰😍😍
Thank you for the lesson. Very useful.
As a 15 year old girl, I am often put in the place of having to make small talk with a lot different teenagers. It’s pretty much always in a church setting (at my youth group) and I want to seem more,ya know understanding. Making small talk is like always the first step to making friends or developing new relationships with people I am meeting or wanting to get to know at church. I hate awkward silence but awkward small talk with a bunch of teenagers is um cringy for loss of better words. Thanks for the vid! Next time I am engaging in a conversation with a 13 year old boy (who probably doesn’t wear deodorant) I will definitely ask him what his line of work is or where he thinks i should travel to with my fiancé! (all jokes aside thanks for the vid, much love)
Haha
