  • As someone who's repaired pallets as a job, I have never once seen someone break down a pallet properly!! ;P With this pallet you would pry off the bottom three boards, then use a hammer to knock off the bearers from the top boards, easy and quick.

  • I used to build and repair pallets for a bit. You made it harder by cutting the boards before using the bar, honestly. When we used to pull them off we'd use a similar hoof shaped crowbar, start on the center stringer then pop the outer two just the same. The boards pushing on the stringers gave leverage you lost by cutting them down. At least in my memory it was easier lol

  • Kept watching the video, kept getting reminded of that one YT content creator who built an off-grid cabin (complete with stove inside) using free pallets of wood. Took him a few months. But it looked good. Even had a bed inside. Support for the bed made from pallets.... So, guess that's the next project. Only instead of a cabin for one, a school house for orphans. An edumacation is important. 🙂

  • use a Sawzall with a 12" metal blade and just cut the nails to release the slats from the frame wood. Simple matter of punching the head of the nail out of the slat wood. Depending on application you'll have much longer wood available for your project.

  • You can zip the nails off the back using a sawzall then take a nail punch the the holes on the back of the boards way easier than trying to nail pull the boards off. You get longer usable boards and the nail holes look kinda cool.

  • The table was too small for my house, but if it was twice the size, and you shipped it to California, I’d buy it. It turned out to be a great looking table! And, the placement in it at your buddies house, was brilliant as it actually looked like an expensive table, and nobody would believe it was pallet wood. It would be cool if you designed it so the top opened.

  • Whoa there - $600?! You're clearly underselling your product, as we know ALL youtubers should selling their pallet wood tables for at least $1000. And don't forget to take all the time you spend fixing your mistakes, and add all of it on to the final price. Otherwise it just doesn't meet the korley mert stamp of quality. (All snark aside, that table looks awesome, and good on John for giving it away!)

  • One thing I don’t understand is that in morley’s video, he specifically went through quite a bit of time about pallet selection. Specifically looking for “older pallets with hard wood slats” and “avoiding pine”. The content is great regardless, but I find it odd that in these “recreation videos” that one of the key aspects to morley’s build is ignored.

  • I can so relate to this journey, people expect a lot these days for their $$$ and the problem is caused by imported flatpack cheap non functional or durable disposable furniture that uses often unsustainable illegally sauced lumber, toxic materials left over from other manufacturing process. Not to mention they use a cheap / expendable labor force often working in unsafe conditions. Industry / Public Liability Insurance, energy costs, high wages means we can no longer produce what made our nations great. Furniture these days has lost its interesting unique qualities which gave rise to durability, functionality and style. My work I've restored and created is trying to bring back a standard to furniture that holds it's value now and in the future.
