    • @@nickcarter6949 not particularly, Ariel has done incredible things for upcoming mma fighters over the years. Ariel has a very Symbiotic relationship with mma fighters, plus you gotta remember, when Ariel was doing mma fanhouse coverage over a decade ago, he was doing so completely out of pocket. He was featuring paddy on the mma hour when Dana White POINT BLANK said he didn't want paddy 4 years ago. Also, the irony in paddy saying it to DANA FUCKING WHITE; who pays professional fighters 3500/3500 show/win purses and is worth 9 figures, was incredible 😂

Of course Ariel should make money when doing such work. Why would he do it otherwise??! To be bitter about the fact that he makes money covering the sport is insanely stupid. Without the media the sport wouldn't be as big as it is today and fighters benefit off that. Admittedly I think Ariel could have reacted differently when asked for payment for an interview, and probably just declined and said he doesn't pay for interviews, and good luck. However Paddy behaved like a right twat on his podcast and his reputation has taken a huge hit. You just don't behave like that. Especially towards someone who has helped you early in your career. Disgusting.

The thing is Paddy doesn't have a lot of knowledge in the area of business and he's not that good with words either like True Geordie points out. He's a fighter at the end of the day and it's his manager who deals with the business side of things, who has definitely influenced Paddy's opinions on Ariel. Paddy's criticisms of Ariel are unfair IMO but I don't see any evidence that he flat out lied even if he is a bit misinformed. He did contact Ariel to set something up but it doesn't mean he didn't wanna be paid for it as that's the standard his manager sets with everyone, and I think what Paddy was trying to say is why would he get an interview with Ariel for free when he can get paid for it, which he believes he rightfully should whether you agree with him or not. So, I don't think he flat out lied but maybe I am missing something here.

I think there will be a lot of people hoping he (officially) loses his next fight. And, if he doesn't make the necessary changes it's guaranteed to happen. Just because Nike may have sweatshops out somewhere, doesn’t mean the teenager they get to sell them on Oxford street as a part time job should be taken to task. Ariel is paid by a company, that’s not being disingenuous, that’s laying out the facts. What’s more, so what if he is? it’s a symbiotic relationship, if not for Ariel and his contemporaries the sport wouldn’t be as big as it is. Media legitimises a sport, coverage makes a sport more widespread, fans want content. Imagine if the only time we saw McGregor was social media and press conferences on the come up, his meteoric rise wouldn’t have happened. Paddy was not making a technical argument about journalists making money off association with fighters, he was clearly arguing that this arrangement is exploitative somehow. Which it obviously isn't. • How To Ruin Your MMA Reputation In 5 Easy Steps: 1) Falsely Disparage One of the most respected journalists covering your sport... 2) All of a sudden Demand Payment for interviews (especially in the octagon right after a fight)... 3) Lie about demanding payment for interviews... 4) Lose a fight convincingly but claim that you won against a tidal wave of public & professional opinion… 5) Demand a fight of the night bonus for one of your most controversial & mediocre professional performances-

  • Maybe his manager asking you for money like he asked BT was because you were both the highest level of the ‘company’ asking for an interview. If you had a boss or parent company they’d maybe ask them?

    • If he wants to get paid for his time that's up to him, but if Ariel doesn't want to pay that's also up to him, or more accurately the company that hires him. What's unfair is criticising Ariel for the way he wants to conduct his business, especially for covering MMA which is his job. I think it's equally unfair to say Paddy is in the wrong for wanting to get paid for interviews.

  • Ariel mentioning being asked to pay was completely fine. He didn’t name any names, there would not be any backlash against Paddy, it was talk between 2 mma journalists about practices within the industry and a happening. You’re trying real hard to maintain being in Paddy’s good books. The guys a mug, he brought all of this on himself

  • What you get in exchange for your time is exposure, which promotes your brand especially if you are on a top channel. Just don't do the interviews. In my opinion fighters are lucky there is a platform that they can tell their story. There wasn't previously, and private media was more controlled.

  • Ariel is part of the MMA media, so in a strict sense he makes money from fighters. Without MMA media, Paddy might still be in Cage Warriors or just another unknown prelim fighter in the top 30 of the division. He needs to take a step back and understand how marketing works. Or he might just be playing 4D chess because he's got more stories about him this week by calling Ariel a rat and telling everyone he obviously won a fight he blatantly lost. Maybe we're the dumb ones.
