Do you hear a clunking noise under your car or truck? You might think it's something like a shock or strut, or ball joint, or even a control arm. But, there are a couple other overlooked things it could be. In this video, Cristian points you to the sway bar bushing. Sway bar bushings are usually rubber, and they deteriorate and stop cushioning the sway bar where it mounts to the vehicle body or frame, which can lead to an annying repetitive banging noise!

Im dealing with this now. I just replaced struts, lower control arm, ball joint and outter tie rods and im getting a clunking noise after about 2 months
Great video. Some of the trackday crowd advises to wrap the swaybar with teflon tape to avoid metal-on-rubber contact when the silicone grease eventually wears off or dries out. The teflon tape is mostly to avoid annoying squeaky sounds, but I think this could help the swaybar rotate smoothly and keep the car behaving predictably.
Just turn the radio up loud to drown out the noise.
Great video. I like how you actually work on rusty vehicles like mine and not pristine or new ones where everything comes apart easily!
This is supposed to be educational to teach people.
@@NeutronX101 That's what I mean! At least they show it on used, rusty vehicles where stuff doesn't always come apart so easily.
This channel helped me and my boyfriend my boyfriend was able to save me a lot of money by learning how to change my rotor and calipers on my car from this channel now there’s something new I can add to the list of things I’ve learned incase I run into this problem thanks 1A-auto😊
I've been chasing a rattle at the front-end. Replaced control arms and mounts. Never thought to check swaybar bushings ! 😮
I purchased sway bar link from 1A auto for my camry and the quality of parts is very heavy duty and outstanding 👌 I highly recommend that
Excellent no b.s video, very professional and straight to the point, thankyou from Oz ❤
I really appreciate this video I have a 99 Ford F-250 on a 4 inch lift so I probably need to check all of that out what you just explained especially before I take her in the mud LOL
Thank you for teaching me something new.
Very nice! Local repair network had absolutely NO IDEA what to do for 3 years. Sold the car in the enc.
Thanks 🙏🏾🙏🏾 this was really really helpful
Haha. Nice. My 2014 scion tc front left makes a knockong sound. Over rough roads driving straight it rattles. But turning the wheel on curves while driving it doesnt rattle as much. Mainly on the driver side. Looks like i have an idea of where to look now. Sweet.
Excellent video very easy to follow thank you
Great educational video!
Best channel on youtube. So informative.
what a great vid. I love the explaining what the parts do for the car!! 1a auto rules!
Thank you for this video.
This was an awesome vid! Great explanation of everything.
Very helpful thanks!!!
If only the bushings where this easy to replace on all vehicles. Had to do it on and early 2000s cavalier and it was the worst. The car was not worth all the problems it had. The wisconsin weather really did a number on the car. But it was my ex's grandmas car so i tried my best to keep it safe and working for her.
Thank you bro now I can do bushings on my Crosstrek
Great video! Well done! Thanks! 🏆
Thanks so much for info
Very educative videos...big up

Great !
great video👍 helpful👍👍
Thanks much for your video. I didn't know this. I bought new bushings for my 2000 Camry LE back sway bar. So the bushings are on bear metal. A mechanic put the new bushings on I didn't watch him. Oh geez. I've been wanting to put heavier sway bars on the Camry. I'm customizing the Camry. So where do I buy silicone paste?
I've replaced everything except those. Hopefully, that will fix the knocking sound. Everything else did need to be replaced.
Very nice! Show me how to fix rotted parts of a 4th gen 4Runner frame? Please?
So how bad is it to not change it immediately?
My Scion TC is making this sound even after changing struts/balljoint + lower control arm. Sway bar link looked good nothing torn but I did not check the sway bar bushing. Intro of this video convinced me it's the same clunk ass noise it's making under on both side driver and passenger on speed bumps.
+Henry Kim We wouldn't be able to diagnose an issue like that here, you may want to have a local mechanic take a look at it. Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
Great video. That truck has a ton of rust underneath. It must be in a northern state, lol.
5:31 thank u
I would have sanded the sway bar a little bit and got the surface smooth before putting the bushing on.
Does one have to lose the bolts holding the sway bar links? Or one can change them bushings just by removing the brackets?
What's the typical charger on getting that bushing replaced on the sway bar... I have a 2015 and I need that done I believe
My 2015 Subaru Forester XT rattles and shakes past 55/ 60 mph. If I slightly turn the steering wheel while driving or making a turn at a similar speed or faster it stops the shaking. Now that the check engine light randomly comes on the rattling/ shaking has stopped. When the check engine light is off the shakiness comes back at 55 mph or faster... Guess ill check sway bar end link's and bushings.

Are the ebay and Amazon parts any good, or do we need brand names or oem parts, Thanks for any answers!
My swaybar does minimal movement nothing close to this only wehn i apply significant force with a pry bar. There is no metal noise. Is this normal? I am trying to diagnose a suspension issue and not sure what part is causing it.
I have a 2007 Chevy Silverado 2500hd classic crew cab 6.0 liter gas engine 4wd. Same noise. I rebuilt the entire front end...still happening. No play in the sway bar at all. Any ideas? I've been told replacing the body mounts are the issue, but others have said no it's not. Help!
What would cause the truck to feel like it's swaying a little. It was just aligned and a parts were checked.. seemed good.
Question do the vehicle need too be off the ground too check this????
Props to the driver for putting their safety and the safety of everybody else at risk to get that video
No need to dramatize. Road traffic was not endangered by that broken bushing. There are vehicles that don't even have a Sway Bar.
👍
Look at those Rusts .

i have a xtpe jag, 2005. i have changed these bushes and tirods, springs, shocks, bushes where the shocks connect to upper part of the body and one of the arms. I still get a knocking sound on N/S rear wheel. my mechanic has run out of ideas and i run out of cash!. any idea what might be causing it? thanks.

You failed to mention the cv axle.
What would cause my 2005 dodge ram 1500 rear end to squaek
2 bolts missing to the right control arm over your head
Excellent video! My wife likes you... ha ha.
Mine sound like this but only when I reverse at an angle and drive
whats the torque spec
Clunking or Rattlling under your car and suspension seems fine? *Probably The Neighbours Cat*
how do you fix rust on a car?
The clucking could also be bad sway bar bushings and are bad sway bar end links
My car is currently doing this at 35k miles. Is it dangerous to drive even around?
I feel terrible for the people that drive in the rust belt or where they salt the roads. 😢
Thats is the culprit that peeple overlook. I know i did.
That noise would never be a ball jlint
I've seen a lot worse from these 😂😂😂
"CLUNKING NOISES" started from my Marriage shortly after starting,....."SwayBar" needs ADJUSTING😊 (Its NOT a 'Singles Bar' Darling, its a SOCIAL GATHERING, She said😂,....she sure does like "SOCIAL GATHERINGS" I thought...... THAT is the EXACT MOMENT my SWAYBAR BUSHINGS needed some Jacking UP) Just SMILE, and hit "LIKE" You KNOW you 'RELATE'😂❤😂
Good video but I would never purchase anything off you guys again apparently your guys ball joints are made in China and we’re non grease-able I installed your guys kit on my 89 GMC Sierra shortbed which is basically a project truck so it’ll hardly get driven It was installed 2019 and my ball joint popped out the a-arm while driving 25 mph hitting a corner I was stranded for a hour and could of died if I got as on a freeway this was 2022 again this truck was a project truck hardly ever drove ball joints should last 75k-150k miles and I am mechanically incline so it’s crazy I paid $130 for that whole kit which came with pit arm idler arm inner and outer tie rods upper and lower ball joints 🚩 I ended up paying $320 for just upper and lower ball joints (moog problem solvers) pay once cry once my buddy always said well now I know 😢
Show us how to do the rear sway bar bushings on an SUV like the first generation Honda Pilot.
