  • My question is, why are we supposed to wait for the directors cut EVERY single time? You don’t see other directors tripping over themselves during interviews, promising how awesome the directors cut will be if we wait. Can we really blame Warner Bros or Netflix for every time? Whatever his next film will be, I’m sure it’ll release to iffy reviews, and then he’ll explain to us how it wasn’t his true vision. Again. And that we need to wait for the R-rated Directors cut. Again. Loved the video by the way. It gave a lot of context to the situation.

    • Because he is not Spielberg or Nolan? Not everyone has the same pull in the industry. Sucker Punch got reworked by the studio in the editing process. It happens but he accepted it and he tried to salvage the situation as much as he could with the extended cut on BluRay. WB cut out 30 minutes of BvS. WB then told us Justice League was unwatchable and Joss Whedon saved it. It took a fan campaign to see for everyone that is not the case. If Netflix is like; “Hey cool idea, but we’re not willing to spent thát much money on projects that are Rated R, can you make em PG13 for us to market?” then would you refuse? He has always been open about how Sucker Punch didn’t come together as he wished and he had nothing to do with WB’s fuck ups with BvS and JL, so why act like “this always happens with Snyder” when we know the studio behind them purposefully messed with his vision. We all know how trash most studio’s are. Especially circa 2024 when people who only care about money and not about artistic vision are running their businesses. So why place the blame on an artist whom we know has been fucked over multiple times? I hate that I didn’t get to see the Ultimate Cut of BvS in theaters or the directors cut of Rebel Moon right away. But I’m not going to act like he purposefully put out an “inferior cut” just so he had something to fix afterwards.

    • I mean Nolan and Spielberg are directors who have trust of the studio behind them. They let Nolan release a R Rated Biopic about the guy who made the atomic bomb starring half of the A Listers in Hollywood. Not many directors can get away with that.

  • It amazes me how in four hours both movies fail to make you care about any of the characters. People die and the music makes you know you should be sad, but you never really knew these people. Their motives are all the same, "the empire came and killed all my people" and that's it. No one has a scene where you think "please, don't let this character die". The closest thing is the scene where they give them their flags (or whatever they are) and you see them doing something other than fighting or preparing to fight, but even in that scene the girl gives us a quick description of each character instead of the movie showing us they're like that. We don't even see them bonding. That scene shows us that they kinda bonded inbetween movies.

  • I think a big problem with Snyder is that, instead of letting certain projects go when it’s clear things aren’t working, he doubles down on them until he thinks the audience will get his vision for it. With Sucker Punch, a major passion project, it bombed at the box office and with critics, yet he’s still saying he can find a way to make a director’s cut that will make the movie work. And with these two movies, LucasFilm straight-up told him this idea wouldn’t work, but he doubled down and pushed it to NetFlix because of how passionate he was for it. And now that these movies are tanking critically, he’s going on a “wait for the longer, R-Rated director’s cut” screed, since THAT’LL clearly work, right? Honestly, I think he got lucky with the whole “Snyder Cut of Justice League” thing. With projects like Sucker Punch and this, though, he needs to know when to let it go.

  • I’m a Snyder fan, but it’s becoming harder and harder to defend him. It’s not like Justice League where the movie was taken away from him. He went in knowing he would complete a pg-13 Rebel Moon and accepted that. So, it seems hypocritical to then complain about that. Make the best movie with the limitations you have

  • They should've called this movie "hack director: the moneywaster"

    @Korra228@Korra22825 күн бұрын
  • Okay, but let's be clear about this. Netflix knows what Snyder's vision is and always has. They never had an issue with his "living dead in Vegas" movie, which was R and fairly extreme. I'm sure they knew he wanted something just as hyperactive for Rebel Moon. That has to mean this is basically a "work" to generate the fan loyalty that coalesced around #SnyderCut. But where that was based on conditions being imposed upon him, this is he and Netflix colluding to create false victimhood and get the same result. They have chosen to release two movies they know are a mess to promote a "Director's Cut" from the sidelines, and that is incredibly disrespectful of the audience. The faint whiff of horse manure is strong on this one.

  • As someone who really likes to loves over half of Zack Snyder’s filmography, I can’t say I’m looking forward to the future of his career, especially with Netflix. I absolutely love Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Not to spoil my Snyder ranking, but that movie will be extremely high on that list as one of his strongest pieces of his filmography. However, I think that movie was the worst thing to happen to his career, and Rebel Moon itself and its release strategy is the reason why I think that. Reading and watching a lot of Snyder interviews over the last month for my Snyder deep dive, it’s pretty clear that Netflix and Snyder collaboratively made the decision to this ridiculous release strategy. The Part One and Twos we currently have are about four hours long, and apparently the Director’s Cuts of Rebel Moon are going to be over six hours when combined. But with the versions of Rebel Moon released so far, both parts are somehow underdeveloped and bloated at the same time. The characters, story, and themes are paper thin, but the world building is so needlessly complex that it makes any sense. It’s like Snyder focused on the sides of a meal instead of devoting the majority of his energy on the main course and then figuring out the extras he can add to it to make the meal even better. I think a lot of this boils down the fact that Zack Snyder isn’t a good writer, especially because he brings in people he’s comfortable with to write with him. Because of this, he doesn’t have anyone to actually challenge what he thinks is best for his stories. From his mind to the script to the filming to the editing, there are virtually no question marks or roadblocks to challenge what he wants. That’s a good bit of what I think happened with Sucker Punch, Army of the Dead, and both parts of Rebel Moon. I think Snyder has more respect from some people because he’s an ambiguous filmmaker. But, that’s not what’s happened, which I think is unfortunate.

  • I could barely get through 30 minutes of this. I really wanted to give this a chance but it really was a waste of time. I think a big problem with Zack Snyder now is that he is not good at editing, writing, and directing but also that he is using director's cuts to undermine his own works. It's getting really annoying cause I'm just expecting that he won't ever make a good movie and won't ever get his true film and his want for R rating is not a good excuse either. Dune Part 1 and 2 proves how to handle a space epic and have great pacing, action, and characters. Rebel Moon just feels like a 13 year old's attempt at that with trying to be hardcore but also a film fan while also pointing to his Donnie Darko poster to prove it.

For me, unfortunately, if Zack Snyder was hired upfront to do PG13 movie about space and he accepted to do it, then there is no excuse for this shit. If he wanted to do some gritty R rated space movie, he should have waited for any studio to actually hire him to do it. This whole story about "I wanted an R rated, they wanted PG, so I adjusted my R rated idea into PG, but in future I will do my own R rated version" is annoying. I haven't watched part 2 yet, but part 1 was so bad, that I have no will to see part 2. And judging by the comments, I am not missing anything.

Why couldn't he just make a movie and call it a day, no matter the rating? Why do we need rape, nudity, balls deep sex scenes, and gore the likes of which Tarrentino cry himself to sleep? He just did the same thing everyone else does, just worse. He's just an edgey teenage punk rock emo man-child. Rebel Moon is just a canabalized version of the better versions he was trying to "saterize". Instead of making one movie, he's starting to do these interviews saying he has 2 versions of a movie, since the JL stuff. No amount of extra content can save this floundering franchise. The worse part, they're boring; once you start thinking about the plot holes, it makes it even worse.

I was at least fascinated by Sucker Punch as an experiment of sorts, and while Army of the Dead was outrageously stupid, it at least benefited from a self aware tone that encouraged fun over seriousness. There's little to no redeeming qualities worth noting in these Rebel Moon movies, just purely derivative content with nothing to say.

I kinda enjoyed it but at the same time I could clearly see that there was absolutely no personality to any of the characters and the plot was just so straightforward and bland. I literally liked it simply because of the way it looked. I couldn’t care less about the story. Ironically, the most interesting character I thought was Jimmy. And he was barely in it.

  • Whether you love or hate the guy (and his films), you can’t deny that there’s hardly any other public figure who can get the internet talking as much as Mr Zack Snyder! As someone who unashamedly really dug the first film, I found myself being rather conflicted with Part Two. Although it is arguably better than Part One, the positives still don’t really outshine the negatives. Part Two is slower, unbalanced, and emotionally devoid. As it stands, while I do still like both films more than most, I am yet to be blown away by either film. I’m also unsure which film I prefer the most as of yet!

The problems Rebel Moon movies have are things that can be fixed and shown in a pg-13 rated movie... Like what is the story suddenly better because there's an on screen bloodbath now?? That won't make me feel any closer to the characters.

Should’ve waited to release both versions simultaneously so casual viewers can pick which to watch while critics can actually judge the true version of the story.

Important story elements were completely cut out. So directors cut of BVS made sense. With rebel moon, it's all around a bad movie. Easily his worst project. Adding sex and more violence won't make this movie better. On top of that it will be longer. If they ever sold this in stores I'd pass. Every Snyder movie you can buy I own. The concept of the ancient gauntlets was very interesting, and boom, she’s gone. Episode 1 and 2 should have just been about Kora and who she is and maybe, maybe the introduction of one other character. There is no way all the other characters should be placed in position in the very first episode. It’s just too much to process. But I applaud his unique style and creativity. He just needs better writers around him.
