    • Yeah, I like rubble load one but rebel moon tube just had way too much slow-mo at the wrong moment at the wrong times and even his Justice League, even though it's a million times better than Josh Wheaton league, it has moments where the slow-mo is used too long and too often. That's Zach Snyder's weakness for me. Is the slow mode bullshit? Don't fucking understand why you're so in love with it.

  • Zack Snyder is very much a visual director and I think if he wants to write a film again he needs good people around him to tell what and what not to do. But I think his strength still lies in the spectacle of his films and that’s why I personally get excited for his movies. So believe if you pair him up with a world class writer he could do great things

I do enjoy watching a couple of them…barely…but overall I think he should just be a visual director. Not even a lead director. Not only can he not write but I don’t think he can reliably direct good performances out of people (key word: reliably. He can get a couple very specific types of good performances)

  • That's what i love about his movies , yeah they may not be critically loved, but it's such a different take on filmmaking! The distinct vibe the distinct aura and visuals , you watch one of his movies and you're like huh...that was different and fun!!, and in an age where a lot of blockbusters come from pre written work they all at some point just start using that same formula again and again, his take on those pre written work actually feel distinct! And keeps you engaged!! , He makes filmmaking fun again!

  • 11. Sucker Punch-Despite being a visual feast for the eyes, this movie is a prime example of what happens when a creative visionary doesn’t have any kind of restraint when it comes to the story, characters, and themes being explored, which makes for a trainwreck of a film 10. Rebel Moon - Part Two: The Scargiver-Because A Child of Fire completely drops the ball when it comes to the setup, this movie has to build on the faulty setup to deliver a derivative, cluttered back half to a story that I thought had quite a bit of potential 9. Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire-For the amount of quality visuals in this film, that same amount of effort clearly wasn’t put into the script because of its bogged down middle act, recycled ideas from Star Wars (and A Bug’s Life strangely enough), and overall weak writing from beginning to end 8. Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole-Although this is a PG animated film with owls as the main characters, it also has brainwashing, death, and slavery, and if you think that sounds like a strange concoction of elements, that’s because it absolutely is 7. Army of the Dead-A conglomerate of a great basic concept, predictable plot points, stylized zombie action, wasted and underdeveloped zombie lore, an interesting enough cast of characters, and a bloated two hour and twenty minute runtime to make for an extremely mixed bag of a zombie film As a point of reference, I’m a big fan of the rest of these movies 6. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (Ultimate Edition)-While I do acknowledge that this is a flawed film, I thoroughly enjoy the Ultimate Edition for its ambitious themes, storytelling, and action, as well as being the introduction to Batfleck and the continuation of Cavill’s Superman 5. Watchmen (Ultimate Cut)-For a graphic novel that was considered to be unfilmable, I think Snyder did a great job at adapting it because of its great atmosphere, complex character dynamics, and ambition to do more than a lot of comic book films aim for, especially nowadays 4. 300-A Spartan movie that has a fairly simple story structure, which means it won’t be everyone’s speed, but at its core, this movie is about being virtuous to die for who and what you believe in, which I think it encapsulates wonderfully 3. Dawn of the Dead (Unrated Director’s Cut)-Because of Snyder’s stylized directing right when he first started directing movies and James Gunn’s screenplay, this remake of the 1978 zombie classic works as an excellent horror remake, an awesome zombie, and one of Snyder’s best films in my opinion 2. Man of Steel-A fantastic 21st century version of the Superman character that has great aesthetics and action from Snyder, a great villain in General Zod, and powerful themes of self discovery to pull it all together, making for one of my all time favorite comic book films 1. Zack Snyder’s Justice League-An amazing addition to the comic book movie genre that has great character arcs, solid Snyder action, complex, but incredibly satisfying storytelling, a massive scale, and fantastic world building, which makes for a superhero epic deserving of the Justice League title

He just borrows from better directors and snyder-fies those scenes with slo-mo or other faux edgelord indulgences. He is completely incompetent in setting up scenes and maintaining momentum with clarity of story through the movie as well as completely not understanding how to build on atmosphere, energy and mood. It's just a collection of scenes with no real organic connective tissue of recognizable relationship with each other. He has only 3 movies that are considered good and it's because a huge part of it was through the work of others. Everything after that, left mostly to his devices, he keeps getting worse and worse with zero substance to his movie, just shallow sheen.

Now, I enjoyed “Man of Steel”, was frustrated with “BvS: Dawn of Justice (Ultimate)”, and really liked “ZS’s Justice League”, but I think they are ambitiously flawed. • I haven’t seen Legend of the Guardians, Sucked Punch, or Rebel Moon Part 2 so here’s my ranking. 8. Rebel Moon Part 1 - (3/10) The only Zack Snyder movie I’ve seen that I really don’t like. When I first saw it I thought it was okay, but the more I thought about it the less I liked it to the point that it’s easily my least favorite Snyder film. 7. Army of the Dead - (6.5/10) This movie is a huge mixed bag for me as there’s some really cool action with a great premise, but there’s some really dumb characters and dumb moments that bog the movie down. Also it’s too long. 6. BVS (Ultimate Edition) - (7.5/10) I think this is a good movie but it’s frustrating because it’s so close to being a great movie. It’s has some really compelling ideas but there’s just too much going on here. 5. Dawn of the Dead - (8/10) A damn good zombie horror film. I don’t have many complaints other than that ending. 4. Watchmen - (9/10) Really good movie that is compelling, different, edgy, and all around a movie that I’m glad exists. 3. Man of Steel - (9/10) My favorite Superman movie with awesome action, a masterful score and a compelling origin story at its core. 2. 300 - (9/10) Pure testosterone-fueled magnificence. 1. Zack Snyder’s Justice League - (9.5/10) One of my all-time favorite DC movies and it is such a satisfying watch.

    @dobi287@dobi28727 күн бұрын
  • My ranking (part II in comments) 1: Watchmen (10/10) As ambitious as its source material, Snyder's decision to slavishly follow the comic's visual frames and dialogue has to date been his smartest one. Arguably, this movie is only as good as it is because the comic is a masterpiece in the first place, but credit must be given where credit is due - Snyder not only crafted stunning imagery, but also wisely changed the type of weapon being used at the end (if you know, you know). Furthermore, he hired a talented, pitch-perfect cast down to the most minute side character. His best work yet, no doubt - if there is one bad thing in this, it's probably the severely underdeveloped antagonist, which at a run time of 3.5 hours (Director's Cut) all but boggles the mind. But don't take it from me; if Alan Moore hates an adaption of one of his works with every fibre of his being, you're probably going to have a great time. 2: 300 (9/10) Only slightly less amazing than Watchmen, Snyder did the same thing 3 years earlier with this, and it was the right call for this property, too. He recreates still images on screen in a fascinating way, perfectly replicating the amber and ochre colors and sinister mood of the source material. Where other directors might have struggled with at times bland side characters, Snyder embraced those occasional dramaturgical shortcomings by focusing on the simple message and fusing it to collossal action: Die for what you believe in, no questions asked, no second thoughts - and murder a whole bunch of cannon fodder, while you're at it. Tyler Bates' soundtrack elevated this slick 1h40m feature to even greater heights. At nearly 20 years old, this film is as good as the day it hit theaters and a whole bunch of morons crawled from their mud pits and called Snyder an islamophobe. 3: Batman v Superman (8/10) I never really understood the hate this movie got - sure, it's unnecessarily bloated and the impossibly slow second act grinds your nerves as much as it almost grinds to a complete halt, but seen for what it is, BvS is still a very good film that got a lot of things right throughout its entire runtime. Yes, hiring Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor might have been the worst casting choice in recent big budget memory, and the editor who thought that spoiling the final battle and true villain in the second trailer would be a good idea ought to be incarcerated for at least 800 years, but the third act's unbelievable set pieces and Wonder Woman's first appearance do mostly make up for that. This movie always felt to me like a very good continuation to Man of Steel, and only faltered a little bit in setting bigger stuff up, which, yes, at times makes it feel a bit confused and pretentious. 4: Sucker Punch (7/10) One of those films you're only going to really hate unless you go in knowing in advance what to expect. It's entirety feels just like its cast: Young, dumb and full of... well, let's not go there. That being said, there are a lot of really, absolutely, yes-indeed-sir gorgeous shots in this; the idea of escaping an asylum by fleeing into your own epic fantasies was equally original and well executed, although at its core it's really just a ramped up version the classic escapist concept. This film is what happens if you brainstorm a bunch of very silly ideas, and against all odds, the whole thing does, surprisingly, NOT fall apart - at least as long as you're not expecting Scorsese and willing to just appreciate it for its boatloads of slick style. Lords of Acid music? Nice. 5: Man of Steel (7/10) It's Superman. What can you say. You either love the character, or you are near bored to death by his flawlessness and near bottomless bag of skills. While I tend to be part of the latter group, I enjoyed what Snyder did by trying to focus on Kent's insecurities after realizing that he's had good reason after all to feel like he never belonged on this planet. I did not very much like the desaturated style Snyder went with, especially because he did it for no good reason, but at least it was not as bad as in some of his other, later works. Michael Shannon as Zodd stole every scene he is in and the intro and third act's action sequences delivered on everything fans of the IP always wanted to see put to film. And no, Kent killing Zodd was not character assassination. Deal with it, nerds.

    • 6: Legend of the Guardians (6/10) What happens if a director who loves to film brutal action, horror and adult themes waltzes into a film studio and pitches a film based on a book series for children? A beautifully crafted work that all too often misses the mark in terms of its content and tone is what. I'm sure Snyder had good intentions here, and at its core this film is both a beauty and an exciting tale, but at the end of the day, it's one of those films that's neither perfect for kids nor for adults. It's honestly a bit surprising how Snyder openly wondered for years why the studio never green-lit the five or so sequels he wanted to do. 7: Dawn of the Dead (6/10) Snyder's first foray into feature film is, at its core, both slick and competent - but mostly because of James Gunn's very solid script. And that's what this film is - Solid, and slightly above average. You can tell Snyder had a clear vision for the mood of it all, and that only aided the final product, just like the script. In the end, though, it's little more than a fun, gory flick that doesn't raise any eye brows 20 years later - or 30 minutes after you've watched it, for that matter. 8: Zack Snyder's Justice League (5/10) Yikes. This is a touchy one. I find it extremely commendable that Snyder even found the confidence and desire to return to this project after his daughter committed suicide half-way through production. That being said, the Snyder Cut (we don't talk about the Josstice League around these parts) is a highly mixed bag full of fun little bits, smart choices, good action - and a whole bunch'a dog shit for good (or bad) measure. No matter if most of it was Snyder's doing or the years upon years of absolute skulfuggery and sheer braindead greed at Warner Brothers - there's a lot here that is really not good, even in the Snyder Cut. As such, I find it impossible to rate this any higher than average - personal tragedies aside, the script is bogged down by a whole lot of unnecassary diversions, cameos and pointless blubbering that doesn't go anywhere. Combine that with the sad hilarity of WB pouring 70 million $ into a big villain tease that we all knew in advance would never be followed up on, and you have a film that, while much better than the abortion that was the theatrical release, is still highly disappointing, especially considering the IP we are talking about. Anatoly Dyatlov from Chernobyl would have probably said: Not great, not terrible. And he would've been right. 9: Army of the Dead (3/10) Ouch. This is where things get ugly. This is where I am beginning to run out of excuses for a director whose style I generally enjoy. Army of the Dead's premise is both dull and original at the same time - and that is really kind of a feat if you think about it! Just not a very good one. Most of this film's horn of plenty of shortcomings - underdeveloped Zombie lore, underdeveloped characters, underdeveloped style and underdeveloped dialogue (I think there is a pattern in here somewhere) - could have been forgiven though, if not for an utterly infurating ending that instantly sunk this ship from a 5 down to a 3 for me. Seriously, this film's ending is nothing but insult added to zombification. Nobody survives, nobody achieved anything. In fact, the world will now be in a worse state forever because the last survivor - one of the, we thought, few remotely likable characters - turns out to be so selfish and genocidal to his own kind during his final minutes, it borders on being a parody. Thanks for nothing, Zack - this isn't what moviegoers mean when they look for a time waster. 10: Rebel Moon Part I (3/10) You know, Disney has been a shitty company for the last 10 years - at least. But hoo boy, did they dodge a bullet with this one! By Vader, it's as if Snyder watched Star Wars, then listened to his sons tell him about Warhammer lore for 5 minutes, and then said: "I can do that - but so much worse!" In all seriousness, this mess is not only dull, predictable and derivative as all hell, it also features the worst dialogue in any Snyder film to date. While the actors, Ed Skrein as Evil Lloyd from Dumb and Dumber (Yes, I stole that one from the Drinker) front and center, do their absolute best with what little they are given here, SO many things in this make a full brain melt in 97% of the audience not just a possibility, but highly likely. It features people, not characters; it features contrivances and side plots running into dead ends at full speed galore; the excessive and pointless use of slo-mo is both so hilarious and maddening, you want to travel back in time to the 300 film set and let Snyder know what he will do 15 years into the future; and its VFX are so inconsistent and at times fugly, I wondered about 60 times wether the CGI artists legitimately and collectively scammed Snyder and Netflix here. 11: Rebel Moon Part II (2/10) Wha... What...? How... I... This... I get it. The first part of this travesty failed to set up anything but the most basic support structures of a story both so cluttered and empty, so blatantly stolen and poorly written, the sequel never really stood a chance - but hey, at least we do get some character backgrounds this time around right? Except - it's all done back to back. Yeah. And that is just one of so many issues with this abomination. I'm at a loss here. This shouldn't be watched unless you want to see what Neil Breen would come up with if someone gave him 160 million dollars and forced him to stop using royalty free images as backgrounds. What happened here, Zack? You're outing yourself as a modern day Doctor Frankenstein on this one! And we all know it shouldn't, but... It lives! OH IT LIVES! Hey, Netflix! What do you get, if you give 160 MILLION DOLLARS to a guy who loves Star Wars and Warhammer very very much, but has the rights to neither? You get what you fucking deserve!

Never knew much about Superman growing up so when I watched the movie I took it as it was and I thought it was pretty great on its own. Now that I know more about it, yeah it doesn't really fit with his general portrayal, but I think his idea of it was still valid and I still enjoy it quite a bit. The other movies tho are far below these two for me, I couldn't get into them at all. Didn't even know he made that owl movie, but now I understand why it felt so strange. • It’s actually sad that Warner brothers didn’t think to let Zack Snyder release justice league into two two hour movies.

  • I disagree on the Owl movie I think most little kids could easily watch it. I agree it has a darker tone then most standard small children movies but I also think most kids appreciate animated movies that do have a more adult tone and don't talk down to them. With that said I don't think it's great but I do think it's a good solid movie.

    • My son wanted to rewatch it. My daughter had an immediate negative reaction to the idea of rewatching it. Based on my very scientific survey of 2, 50% of children like and 50% think it's too much I wouldn't say pointing out that the harshness of violence doesn't fit with the light-hearted talking owl cutesy scenes and owl city is encouraging talking down to kids

    • @@SeanChandlerTalksAbout I'm not saying your talking down to kids I just mean animated movies in general. I think kids overall prefer more adult feeling animated films though it may be a gender thing as well. I think boys are probably more prone to enjoy more action oriented material that has more edge as kids most times.

    • @@boomstickcritique902 I agree that little boys and young boys are more prone to enjoy more violent darker material. That's why boys love stuff like Dragon Ball Z and such with dudes getting wholes blown into them. I think young boys could easily watch this animated Owl movie and have a good enough experience.

  • I don't think snyder has ever made a movie that's better than 6, being generous maybe a 7 out of 10. Every film he's ever made has had some very serious flaws that hold it back from being great.
