Where You Stumble, Dig for Treasure - Bishop Barron's Sunday Sermon
Friends, our first reading for this Sunday is a section of the marvelous story of Naaman the Syrian from the Second Book of Kings. The spiritual lesson is this: where you stumble, dig for treasure. We all have some leprosy-some ailment or struggle or weakness that embarrasses us or makes us suffer. Precisely because it leads us on the path of humility, this leprosy, this debility, leads us to God.

I am recovering from blood cancer. Chemotherapy, steroids and a transplant has left in a weakened state. Most I struggle to eat something that won't make me sick. Drinking water has become a burdensome chore. Most humiliating of all is having to give up all my family responsibilities. My wife has taken on all of my chores and takes very good care of me. I am blessed. But it's very hard to watch her work so hard. I was once the provider, everything that came into our home came because of my hard work. And then little by little I began to lose the things I had worked so hard for until eventually we were homeless and then one morning I woke up in a hospital bed surrounded by doctors. As I said before I am in recovery and those things we lost are slowly being restored but this time I acknowledge God as the source and provider of everything we have. We have felt the guidance of the Holy Spirit and followed that guidance. And while there are still so many miles left on this road to recovery, I am confident that God will keep his promise and restore us whole. Praise be Jesus Christ.
God bless you and your family, Jimmie. May you be fully restored to health in body, mind, and spirit. Praying for you all. 🙏
Our Lord God give you the Grace to handle this Even if you don’t live Offer your Life to Our Lord Now God Bless you We need God Always
Glory be to God! Praying for you!
A Holy Hour offered for you today brother
I’m so glad to hear of your recovery. God is good just keep focusing probably put him first and it’s amazing how everything else will fall into place. I keep praying for your continued health. I’m going through cancer therapy also and I understand it’s not a easy road to give up our roles as provider, but our Lord is always our provider I pray for you and your family. God bless you.
*"Where you stumble, that's where you dig for treasure. It's in your weakness that you tend to find God."* - BISHOP ROBERT BARRON
This is true for me.
Amen
One of the very best lessons ever!
True
My weaknesses are lonely places and I don't find God there at all, but I can humbly ask Him in. Praise Jesus. Thank you Bishop Robert.
I was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer a few months back and have been successfully fighting it since. It has led me back to God, the greatest treasure.
May God bless you and give you all the patience and strength you need for your walk with Him. Greetings from Switzerland.
May God bless and heal you in body, mind, and spirit.
THE SACRAMENT OF THE ANOINTING OF THE SICK 1)a) The sick person should call for the priests /elders /presbyters of the church, and they will pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord, and the prayer of faith will save the sick person, and the Lord will raise him up ..... ( see James 5 : 13 ff in the Bible). 1) b) A footnote in my New Testament says:- Each time a Christian falls seriously ill, he may receive the Anointing of the Sick, and also when, after he has received it, the illness worsens. 2) Jesus summoned the Twelve, and began to send them out two by two .... So they went out and preached that men should repent. And they .... anointed with oil many that were sick and healed them . ( see Mark 6 : 7 ff)
Thank you Bishop Barron. I am a professional Aerospace Engineer currently on the path to conversion; a sentence I never thought I would say! Though I am making this journey in Eastern Orthodoxy, I have been watching hours of your past videos and I want to thank you sincerely for all that you do. Your patience is paying off, many of my age group (I'm 29) are experiencing a pull towards the faith, even the STEM types like me who never thought religion had anything to offer them. Science and Religion can co-exist and can agree, I think both sides lack the adequate language to bridge the gap. I hope to help with this some day when my own journey is further along. Thank you again Bishop Barron.
God bless you on your journey to which He has called you! Yes, one day you will undoubtedly have the opportunity (and more than one), like the Israelite slave girl, to witness (evangelize!) to someone who needs to hear it (maybe a fellow STEM person) about the power of God.
@@sandyv2195 Thank you Sandy, God bless you. I certainly hope I can do that for someone some day.
Ed, I will pray for you, and ask you to pray for my scientific minded brother who rejects God in 'favor' of science!
Your story encourages us all. God bless you.
I’ve been prideful for most of my adult life. As I have come back to Christianity, I now recognize that was this prideful spirit was the source of pain and misery. A life worth living starts with humility. Thank you and the Lord for amazing lessons as this one.
For me personally, The cracks in my Pride are where the light of God flows in and teaches ne humility, he humbles me so that I turn to him. Jesus I trust in you.
Thank you Bishop! 🙏🏾I have full trust and confidence in Jesus. I will never stop trusting in Jesus, even though I’m struggling putting groceries in my refrigerator, and paying bills. Like so many others, I lost my job as a social worker at Forsyth because I declined the vaccine. I declined because of my pre existing health condition (Lupus) and Heart disease. I was denied my medical/religious exemption from Forsyth Hospital. I’m waitressing but not making nearly enough to make ends meet. My husband died years ago. I’m all alone. I’m a single mother with two beautiful children both of my sons are autistic. So I’m overwhelmed at times because they require so much more from me. Sometimes I want to give up. But God keeps me going. Every month is a struggle, to not end up on the streets with my little boys. BUT I have faith God will provide.❤️He HAS so FAR. He won’t let my heart be troubled. Because with God all things are possible.
Lifting all of you up in prayer. ❤🥰
Amen.
Your faith in Jesus will save and keep you and your two beautiful boys. 🙏🏼
🙏
God Bless you! I am praying for you
“The door to healing is open through humility” What a powerful lesson for the world today. Thank you Bishop for giving us hope every weekend!
I could just weep ……so profoundly true. Gods grace needs to find a way into our hearts and it is always at the broken junctions where that happens. Humility - the doorway to God. Thank you dear Bishop Barron
Praying for healing of my brain tumor.
Praying with you. 🙏
@@sandyv2195 Thank you!!!

Some people wake up with a cup of coffee . I wake up with the Gosple of the Lord. Thank you Bishop Barron for this Sunday sermon 🙏🏻
Human beings have always wanted and tried to save themselves from their own sins and earn their own eternal salvation. It is part of our sinful nature to do so. But there is no amount of human good works that could ever satisfy the demands of perfect holiness before YHWH because we “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). But Jesus, The Christ, was SINLESS and He satisfied all the demands of perfect righteousness. So He shed His own blood and died for our sins in order to redeem us. Then He rose from the dead and victoriously offered that glorious gift of eternal life to anyone and everyone who believes in Him and His promise to give us this gift. Hallelujah, What a Savior!! AND NOW we are FREE in Christ - at LIBERTY to LOVE OTHERS! Shalom (PTK)
Thank you Bishop. Indeed pride is a powerful sin. Humility is a great equalizer.
Evil is always destructive.Pride leads to destruction.
Pride is such a secret state Of being. We choose to not recognize it Until shame finds us.
Bishop Barron thank you for revealing that 'Humility 'and 'Gratitude' leads us to the path of our 'Salvation'.
I love this. My husband ( married 56 years) has mental problems. When he gets into angry depressions he swears at me, vents his angry by saying the most hurtful thing he can think of. For years I felt sorry for myself. But my misery drove me to open my heart to the Holy Spirit. My husband got worse. But the more I was hurt, the more I ran to Jesus. I have so many treasures in a growing relationship with my Lord that I would not have if I had not been so miserable. The Lord also led me to get a license in treatment foster care. We fostered kids from backgrounds of abuse and adopted 8. One night I woke in a panic. I asked the Lord what He was doing in my life. My house was full of troubled kids, my mom lived with us and thought I was too strict, and my husband was getting worse. He answered me,” I gave you a suit of armor for the battleground, not a dress uniform for the parade ground.” God truly works the most where we are the weakest and most hurt, for-then all the glory and power are His!
This has sooo much packed into it. Thank you Bishop, you hit a home run with this sermon.
I know that Jesus is beside me all the time, even when I do wrong. My morning prayer, even before my feet have really hit the floor, includes the line, "Guide us along the path of righteousness. Lend me your arm when I stumble." I need the strength of Christ to help me every day. 🙏🙏
Thank you Bishop Barron! To God be the Glory!
Thank you Bishop! This weekend is Canadian Thanksgiving, and it is a perfect time to bring your sermon to our table! 🇨🇦🙏
That is interesting-very appropriate commentary on the readings. Giving thanks to GOD. 😌just out of curiosity, how is Thanksgiving generally celebrated in Canada, and what does the holiday signify? Sadly, here in the US, Thanksgiving is sometimes referred to as “Turkey Day”, and football or dog shows are the entertainment.
Happy Canadian Thanksgiving! May the Lord bless all Canadians and their beautiful country!
very powerful sermon. Thank you, Bishop Barron.
Thank you bishop barron!!! Beautifully explained!!!

James beware of the scam impersonating the Bishop
O Lord have mercy on me Christ have mercy on me Lord have mercy on me I am a sinner.
Dear Bishop Barron, You have the art of saying something profound simply! We tend to rise when we stumble when we need to stay and dig for treasure! (Fr. Alex Rebello 80 years old)
Thanks Bishop for this. I'm consoled to keep struggling with my imperfections.
Thank you Bishop Barron for the reminder that without Jesus we are weak.
God is great!
Bishop Barron, thank you for calling us out! We need more pastors being bold with the truth.
OMG Your Lordship on the dot of your words about Naaman "He takes it" I felt so humbled and just started tearing away!! Praise the Lord for your heavenly mission focused on His kingdom and glory!! Amen Amen and thank you for your blessings.
Accepting Christ has been one of the hardest things I’ve had to do. It’s been hard because my logical mind couldn’t make sense of it and it took true humility and vulnerability to ask something I couldn’t explain for a relationship. However, I asked with a humble heart which stemmed from a thorn and Christ came rushing into my life. I thank him and don’t have words for his love and mercy. All Glory to him!
This man never disappoints! Truely blessed by our Gracious God. All Glory to God for Bishop Barron's insightful understanding of the Scriptures. It is a blessing in itself to have an access to Bishop. Barron's teachings.
This was a real treasure, thank you Bishop Barron for this teaching.

This is truly powerful Bishop Barron, your sermon has hit my heart deeply!!! Humility I discovered late in my life and pride had kept me blind... So now is the time to dig where I have stumbled and find this treasure that will heal the soul!!! Thank you Bishop Barron!!! And may the Lord keep blessing you and inspiring you for the listeners sake, and for the Glory of God!!!
Dig for treasure where you stumble? That it may lead you to the one who gave you healing. Good sermon, Bishop Barron. Thank you again.
This is amezing, truly. Last Tuesday i was at the Church with a mans club from Church. I myself the youngest 33yr old with 5 other men all atleast 30 years older than me. We talked about this same story, and how it reflects on us. Now listen to this its all connects Thank you Bishop Barren, i truly felt God spoke twice the past 5 Days.
Come, Holy Spirit, come renew our faith, hope and love. Ps 98:1, Lk 17:19 It seems that no one has come back to give praise to God, except this foreigner.' And Jesus said to the man, 'Stand up and go on your way. Your faith has saved you.' 😇O Jesus I trust in You!
It is a GOOD SERMON. Take it and digest it. God bless you all 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you Bishop and the Holy Spirit! I listen to this video this morning and intellectually understood this.....went to Mass and weeped as my spirit understood.
Today’s sermon really hit home!!! May the Lord heal all the parts of ourselves we do not talk about, and may we be humble enough to come as we are, admit those parts, to receive His mercy 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙏🏽
Thank you Father Robert for your teaching. May my innermost being be healed totally by persevering in humility. God bless you Father.
Always a blessing hearing you , Bishop Barron. Your homilies not only teach, more importantly touch and ignite a fire in our hearts. God bless you, thank you. 🙏☦️🛐
"We all have leprosy". Very true! 🙂🙂
Thank you, Bishop.
I heard this Bible story a lot since I was a little girl in Sunday School! I guess it was because it was about a little girl, a little slave or maidservant. I wasn't Catholic until 1993 at the age of 37. I'm glad the good Bishop is telling the story in a way we won't forget.
Thank you Bishop, you are a great gift from God
Beautiful and powerful homily, Bishop Barron. Thank you!
Truly inspiring...let Bishop Baron be always guided by the Holy Spirit

Thank you Bishop for bringing out the true meaning of HUMILITY
God rhanks for healing for a while
Amen. Glory be to Jesus Christ forever. 🙏
Humility, humility, humility … Lord I pray for the grace to be humble that I may acknowledge you and know your ways, amen 🙏🏽
Our greatest strength can become our greatest weakness. Independence is a common one.
Humility is the greatest virtue. It is free but priceless. It teaches us to know ourselves and reflect on our lives to become better people. It teaches us to accept ourselves for who we are and to love others.
Dear Lord , May I receive the ‘burning’ desire to do Your Will 🙏🏾
So true and thank you for the deep focus on this wonderful reading from the Book of Kings! Thank you thank you Bishop Barron for your wonderful ministry and proclamation of the Gospel!
Thank you Bishop Barron for this beautiful sermon. Once again you moved my heart.
God Bless you Bishop
Good Morning, Beautiful Sermon! We all have our own Issues and weakness. God Bless You
Praise the Lord! Bishop Barron you are a gift to the Catholic community around the world.
Those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those that humble themselves will be exalted
It is such a spiritual nourishment. Amen.
Powerful message! Thank you Bishop Barron for your insightfulness and touching words. In today's world when we are dealing with so much division and discord, humility and love are needed.
Thank you
"We all have leprosy...". I will try and do as he says, and embrace the weaknesses that I know. I need humility, and want spiritual healing. Thank you Bishop Barron.
Thank You Bishop Robert Barron, you are Truly an inspiration to every one of us who listens to you. Thank you, and the Lord for these amazing lessons.
That was beautiful. it also reminded me that as Elisha was one with God and God was with him, that Elisha did not need to go see Naim. All Elisha had to do was to ask God to heal Naim. He sent someone with the message to bathe in the water and Naim did so and was healed. Namin thanked the Lord for the healing, rather than thank Elisaha in person. Wow! If only we had faith as much as a mustered seed! how powerful is intercessory prayer and all we need is to be One with God. Thank you and bessings, Lee
I must have copious treasure because I’m full of all kinds of leprosies. let me grab my shovel!
Where there is horse manure, there must be a pony!😅
Amazing, again. Thank you Bishop Barron! I was lector for this reading about Naaman at mass and yet much as I studied and prayed on it before mass I did not grasp the deepness of it. You shined a light! The sermon from our deacon focused on the gospel message about the samaritan and his gratitude. I am familiar with that and recall from a child my Mom and grandma always reminding me to say THANK YOU when accepting anything, first. It is those 2 words I utter almost automatically still today. But never tied all this to Naaman and the eed for humility. Sometimes I wish I heard your sermon before mass rint these words from you especially when it is a reading I have the privilege to proclaim. Thank you again, I will now print these words from you and add them to my refrigerator wall, "Dig for treasure where you stumble."
Great finish to OT reading , well pointed out.
Thank you, Bp. Barron. Glory and praise to our God!🙏🌹
‘ HE IS OUR REFUGE AND OUR STRENGTH” { “Thank YOU JESUS” }
extraordinary story..extraordinarily well told...
Is this guy getting better or am I getting worse? Unreal. Beautiful.
Thank you Father. How very insightful. God bless you
I love how you dig into the characters in the stories. Your curiosity about them makes the story come alive. As I continue to work on 'lectio divina', I try to emulate your strategies of curiosity and imagination. Thank you Bishop!!!
