Please create a comprehensive review comparing the X4 and 1-inch, with a focus on detailed analysis of low-light and night-time video and photo performance. Thank you in advance.
@@UKRAINOMOVNYI I would also appreciate that
As always ... good review. After watching Peter McKinnon pretend to be speechless and overwhelmed (as if he's never heard of 360 video) it's good to listen to someone who's been doing 360 for years give an honest, realistic opinion of this camera.
Haha yeah I saw that… i could watch up until the ‘this is best 360 camera ever’ part, then had to stop 😅
I stopped watching that video when they went to fly RedBull planes. I'm going to "retire" my X2 (putting it into reserve, may be using it for a second angle in some cases) and buy the X4.
@@BenClaremont Same... and didn't love the SPONSORED BY INSTA360 when he doesn't even do 360...
Seriously, Peter’s review was over the top exaggeration. If I didn’t think the footage in his video looked good then I’m sure he didn’t either.
I agree that for video this is the best 360-cam. I only prefer the one inch in low light. But during day light the x4 is def better.
Got my x4 yesterday and have enjoyed testing it out. Moved from One X.
Great review! Thank you. Trying to figure out a quick and simple way that I can enhance the user experience of an RV tour with 360 cams
I was about to buy X3 in April 2023 but due to some issues this camera had I decided to wait and man it was worth it! I've yesterday bought X4 and will give it a try during my next trip in 2 weeks :).
Thanks man, first honest x4 review so far
Wow $500 for a very good 8k 360 camera seems like a fantastic deal to me.
Thanks for comparing the X4 also with the 1-Inch - I will keep my 1-Inch 👌
People always post these types of comments as a form of self-assurance.
@@BlownMacTruck Yes.. We need it :)
After watching some ridiculous reviews earlier, it's a blessing to see yours. You also made me not regret getting a X3 a few weeks ago. Thanks mate!
Glad to hear it!
Same I got x3 a week ago.
it’s the same sensor as X3.
Thanks for another great review. Can you advise if the previous GPS Action Remote still work with this new X4?
Great review as always. Insightful and well produced. Plus your voice is very pleasant and soothing. I always look forward to your posts. I’ll hold on to my x3 for now.
Ben! In my opinion u always have the best 360 cam review videos and u were the reason I bought my first 360 cam and just order my x4 yesterday. Thx for the great video.
Ben, Great video! thank you for putting this out for us. Do the microphones record polyphonic or quadrophonic audio? Meaning, the recorded audio tracks are directional and thus we can output 4 channel directional audio for our projects in 5.1 or 7.1 ?
Thank you for the review. I've got an X4 on the way to me now. Quick question: when the camera did overheat, do you know if it first closed out the file in progress so that the video recorded up to the moment of overheat is usable? Thanks.
Hi Ben, love your work. Thanks for this. I have the RS 1 inch and have reduced heating enormously by keeping the battery out of the case and cable it up the stick. Can you do that with the X4 and will it run cooler?
Thank you for this review!!!
I was close to getting the 1-inch....think I"ll do the X4 for my first 360 camera. I'm guessing they may do an 8K 1-inch version in a year or two...? Hey, with the X4, can you pull the footage in directly to a NLE like Davinci Resolve or Final Cut Pro X for editing or do you have to run it through Insta360 software first? Thank you in advance!! CC
Have been waiting for your review since yesterday...
Thank you for taking the time to inform us 😃
best detailed review as always! thank you
Thank you for taking the time to make this video it’s very helpful and informative. I have recently bought the Pocket 3 do you think I should get X4 for the reframing capability? Or nice to have but not needed?
Hey Ben! Thx for the review. I actually want to upgrade my old Ricoh Theta V to something new, but only to shoot 360 panos, not video. Do you think the x4 is the best choice for 360 virtual tours at this moment? Or better go for the Ricoh Z1? Do you have to stitch the DNG images that come out of the X4?
Yay! This review is exactly as thorough and unbiased as I was hoping for. Thank you.
Thanks for making this review ❤
Would love to find out: 1) does it take substantially longer to encode 360 (not reframed) videos into mp4 file using insta 360 studio 2) how perceivable is the 8k quality for 360 videos on youtube. i have another channel where i upload full 360 videos and youtube compression isn't very kind.
I appreciate your comment on the need for robust hardware in post-production. Would you say that any M chip on the Mac (where I usually edit) would suffice? My iPhone is a 13 Pro and I was hoping to hold on to it a couple more years (given a 1TB drive), and I would suppose that might not handle well the editing software.
Awesome review! Keep up the great work! I have GoPro Max which I love except that it overheats so I want to make sure the next camera I buy won't do that. I typically record for 4 hours straight on my bike rides with the camera on a mast behind and slightly above me. My priority is capturing everything that happens in case something bad unexpectedly happens so reliability is important. If I stick to 5.7k, which one is less likely to overheat, the X3 or X4?
This is the review I was waiting to see. Thanks Ben! Any plans for more Winnipeg shooting?
Thanks for this Ben! What are your thoughts on the low light .? Is it similar to the Ace Pro?
I did cover low light in the video 😀
Thanks very much Ben for your honest feedback. Especially compare to the 1-inch.
Thank you for the great review. I am making virtual tours and updated from the X2 to the X4 today. I used HDR Photo mode with RAW on the X2 before, but on the new X4 I can't switch to RAW in the HDR mode. Do you know why? Do I have to choose between HDR or RAW photo on X4? That would be a big downgrade for me. Would be great if you could help me on that and would tell me which setting you would choose for virtual tour on X4... I have a client this Saturday and planned to use the X4 for the first time
Please update
Thanks Ben, another great review video covering all the key facts.
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I have a One RS 1" 360 and I'm looking to get a second camera for traveling, a second angle, and more action based scenarios. Would you say it's worth it to get this one or should I stick with the x3? I need to make sure the footage can cut back and forth with the 1" footage and have them look good together.
Thank you so much for your work!
Thanks Ben. 👍
Solid walk thru! It might be time to retire my X2! Looking forward to that CapCut series!
Been wanting to upgrade my original insta360, I think it’s time. My question is, sure this has 8k and better quality, but when you upload to Instagram, do you downgrade image to 1080p? I may just get the X3 for cheaper since I only upload mostly on Instagram. We’ll see. Last question, all the Shot Labs stuff are available for both X3 and X4 right?
Worth the wait... The best in depth review... As many have already stated, thanks for doing a complete comparison, including the 1 inch...
Seen this on a couple of KZhead channels but waited for your review!
Hope it was worth it!
@@BenClaremont Oh yeah! Looking to upgrade from insta 360 1 and GoPro hero 6, I think this may be the time
Almost all the other channels who got to do early reviews, barely shoot 360, let alone action cams. I feel the a lot of the other channels just got paid good to hype it.. even though the hype is well deserved.
wow, cool. Thanks a lot. As a User from the pro tour i ask me, is it ok to buy a used Theta Z for 600€ or should i use the X4 for still photos for tours?
THIS!!!! This is the review I wanted to see. Thank you. I have been frustrated because all the reviews are comparing the X3 to the X4 and are talking as if it's the best update ever to a camera - and not including the very relevant 1-inch into the conversation. I have wanted the 1-inch for VR because of the sensor size, low light performance, and photo quality. I use these cams for VR when we travel, but not as action cameras which is what the X4 seems to be marketed as. I really appreciate your opinion here as it gives a fair fight to all cameras in the conversations. Cheers.
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
You don't want it (the 1-inch) **for** the sensor size. You want it because the sensor enables those other characteristics you mentioned, low-light & picture quality. Same way you don't "want" a V8 engine, you want the performance it brings.
Yes obviously 😂 and you don’t get those things without the sensor, hence why you DO want it…
@@BenClaremont Oh come dude, don't be absurd, you're better than that. A bad 1" sensor will always give worse results than a good 1/1.3 or 1/1.7. And in fact what you want for both of those qualities (low-light & image quality) is *low resolution* so that each pixel gets a larger total share of the light. That's what really makes the difference, it's just that in a larger sensor the pixels are also bigger so accordingly they receive a larger quantity of light per photo site. **_But_** if their technology is bad simply having a large sensor is not going to give you good results. Today's 2L-engines give more power than the V12s from Lamborghini from the 70s. Do you want a V12 because it's bigger? No, you want the result. Don't fall into the "Well gee shucks Cletus, Uhh think me wants the bigger number one!" trap or the "gimme the marketing goodies I've heard about" nonsense that point to a lack of understanding of the actual technology. 🙄
Point taken. So in your opinion for low light shots... X4 or 1" RS?
Excellent review. Everything I needed to know
got to say the zoomed in shot of the bridge is very disapointing in regards to quality gain. Is it native 8K or a internal upscaling?
Really? It’s a very noticeable gain.
@@BenClaremontactually if you don't look at the building, but at the crane on the building to the right, is a better example of the thin line contrast in favor of the X4. The 1" sensor looks to have more dynamic range rather than contrast. Id love to see comparison shots of the old school photo targets of these cameras. That may also help to find out is they changed a sensor or did something with software The bridge shot comparison wasn't apples to apples because the X3 has the sun glare in frame which will effect detail in that area as the software attempts to step down the brightness..
@@RowanHawkins yes, in the shot with the ship it is much better visible. But even then, would you think that this image has a much higher pixel count. expecially considering that the 1 inch with a lower pixel count looks almost better in detail.
I’m still rocking the x2 so this looks like a good upgrade for me…. Fantastic review as always 👍
My X2 is still running good !!! Trust me .. it's the person behind the gadget not sometimes the gadget. Am more over, am not gonna punch in too deeply. Good review though.
@@JoshConnectMedia@altitude-imaging you guys are having the message “recording stopped due to slow memory card” even having a blazing fast mermory card?
How does the x4 compare to the one rs 1“ for photos/virtual tours?
Great review as always Ben!
Thanks for the solid review, waiting for the 1” RS2 8K 😎 cheers !
yeah same, i feel like when they come out with that it will explode the internet
Yes. But the price will be completely different! 🤣
any idea when we can expect this.
Hello Ben! thanks for your video!
Have been watching few X4 reviews since morning & I can say that yours is the best and honest review of all. Thanks for it! I guess I will stick to my X3 for now.
Really the only reason I got the X4 is that there is no 30 min limit on recording. Now I can record my gigs without worrying about dropouts mid song.
What camera or brand has this 30 min limit?
@@adamthomas1222 the X3
@@adamthomas1222 x3 drops many seconds after 30min
@@adamthomas1222 any other Insta360 camera before this one? Ricoh theta v even used to be 5 min only which was stressful and often inadequate.
Nice review, Does the camera comes with speed overlay like gopro?
Watched alot of reviews past 2 days and this one is the best. Really gets in depth.
thanks for clarifying!!!!! i only trust your review!
This is exactly why I'm a loyal subscriber of your channel. Thank you so much for your honest and in-depth review. The overheat defeats the purpose of documenting some events in 8k. I'll stick with my X3 for another few years. Thanks again!
I was waiting for this review!!
Great video as always. I have the X3 and will upgrade to X4 since I have found it a real useful piece of gear.
Thanks for the review! Still, which camera is better for VR tours if comparing X4 and 1" camera? (dynamic range, low light, sharpness). Thank you!
They're all pushing 8bit. I don't think there will be much more improvement on that until they move up to 10bit.
Great Video Ben! It would of been nice to see how quickly the x4 saves photos. Taking multiple photos with X3 is very slow and I rarely use it. I only use it if I wanat to take a selfie with the ability to reframe later. What is your thoughts about the photo capture and saving speed of X4 in comparison to X3?
Have you tried it with Matterport? Does it work with Matterport and is it an upgrade option vs the theta?
I've been messing with 360 video (starting with a OneX2 two years ago to now an X3) and have learned a lot the hard way. I'm going to start your Masterclass when my schedule frees up really soon. My question: overall, what is the best $1,000 and below 360 or 180 VR camera in your opinion? And, as a separate question: if you had to choose between the new X4 and the One RS 1 inch, which would you choose? Can't wait to start your course!
Hello Ben , would like to know your opinion about theta z1 used like new with a friend compared to a new insta 4x both are 500 USD. which one should i pick
Thanks Ben - good as always! I bought the first Insta360 based on your recommendation - and wondering if the X4 is (or soon will be) Matterport compatible? Currently use my Insta360 for Matterport tours but it just doesn't hold its own against the higher-end, proprietary Matterport cameras.
Just the review I was looking for. Was thinking about replacing my RS 1-inch, now I think I’ll keep it. Thanks Ben!
Excellent thorough review! But random ‘close focus’ question🤔: Do you happen to know how close you can get to your subject with these, and still have the subject be sharp? I’m trying to do some tiny person/macro POV videos, and the only sharpness tests I could find online was of a video showing the X2 still being sharp at about 4-5” away from the subject.. which is amazing..) I’d love to buy the X4 if it was able to be sharp that close as the X2 but can’t find any tests or answers to this yet. Any ideas?
two main questions from me: Does 5.7@60fps have the same overheat risk as 8k@30? I mostly plan to shoot 5.7@60. I've already ordered the camera but I have yet to order a microSD card for it. Should I get a v60 card or does v30 have enough bandwidth? Any spec recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks, as always for what you do!
@Ben Claremont: How is the stiching in comparison to the "One RS" (what I use at the moment) ? ... I would need this for Skydiving and therefore mount it horizontally on my helmet to not stand out that much. I'm a bit worried that it could have worse stiching than the "One RS" because of its length. Would be nice if you could try this out.
Thanks, Ben.
So qq - what about the fancy add-ons like - me mode or sync my stats from garmin onto video - is it bundled to x4 or is it a sw feature that comes with editing app and will work with x3 - as this really bought me when seeing intro of x4
I prefer to master out my X3 before moving on X4 while my X3 still in warranty. but 5.7k 60 is the sweet spot
Best and honest review of all 👍
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Thank you so much for that detailed review Ben, I guess we are all waiting for a second version of the 1inch 360 Video Camera. Do you have any hopes for that new version ? Best regards from Mexico City. Roberto.
Love your honest reviews! I have the 360 one inch and was really debating saving for the x4 so it is refreshing to see a comparison I could trust. Do you have any plan to do a more thorough comparison with all the settings and lighting conditions in the future? I would love to see exactly how they match up quality wise.
I have the X1 and X2, skipped X3 and do I wait again or it's time to catch up? I love using my insta 360 camera but always bugged me that it's not as high quality as I want it to be. Now I think we can achieve that.
Thanks Ben, after watching your X4 review I decided to upgrade from my old X2! Can't wait to get my hands on this beast lol
My Dad showed me his 360 Ace last weekend and said he wished he had an X3. First time I'd seen a 360 cam so I've been watching a lot of your videos on that and just seen this and it's the 60FPS & low light footage you showed on this vid that has finally sold me. WHIPPED out the credit card and just spent £800 on the X4 with your link. Dive kit, tripod, adhesive mount and chest strap... Will be taking it to Croatia next month to put it to the test. Love your videos man, straight to the point, bang-on comparisons with no bs. Much love from the UK! 🇬🇧
Damn! Thanks for the review, Ben. Love the side-by-side comparison shots. From what I've seen, I'd say the X4 is a pretty big update for Insta360, not just 10-20% better but rather 50% 🤩As a X3 owner myself, I've just ordered the X4 and can't wait to test out both... 8K it is!!!
Great review and when watching quite a few, yours seems to be very honest. I already have the X3 and wanted to watch a real and honest review of the X4. Thank you.
Wow, the most complete and professional review. Well done Ben. A really good way to be aware about what is really happening with the evolution of this market. God bless your life bro, you do well
Would love to see comparison to the Ace Pro especially for underwater footage . I have to pick between those 2 now..
I currently own the 1 inch, but wanting the wareproof/action capabilities of the X3, n(ow the X4) ... which would you reccommend? Purely recreational, some IG stuff....could justify the extra $100. Going X4, thanks for inout.
Absolutely gonna ebay my x3 to upgrade to the x4... That was until you mentioned the overheating...(because i do shoot for long periods) looks like i will have to stick with my 1080 finished vid ....for now!! great explanation as usual Thankyou
Me too and 1080p is just fine for KZhead and other video hosting sites but of course true 4K is noticeably better.
Very good review. My X3 freezes a few times. No matter which button you press, no matter how msny times you press, it won't help. Have to take out the battery to restart it. And the shop assistant knew it would happen! Does X4 till have the same problem?
Thanks for making this great review Ben! It answered all the questions I had, great work!
Glad to hear it!
Finally ! Thanks for the honest review. I watched all the other and they try to sell the x4 saying there is a bif difference with x3. I might wait a year to get it
There's Ben's 360 reviews and then there's the rest. Was waiting for this video. Excellent unbiased review as always!
Can you make a video comparing the x4 and ace pro please? I like how you explain the photographers view.
Great improvement from x3. Thanks for reviewing it. 👍
Thank you Mr. Ben for great quality of your reviews. Аs always incredibly objective!!!!
🙏🏻
Another great review. As expected, I’m sticking with my X3.
I bought a x2 around a month ago (for holidays in Asia) because It was on sale and I was expecting the x4 to be out this summer. I will probably buy the x4 next year unless I can find an x3 for a very good price (sale or 2nd hand). Thanks for taking time to make a good review instead of rushing it to be first.
Thanks ben !!
Another top impartial review Ben 👍
Another question: I have the Ulanzi cold shoe for Rode Microphones. It has that short 3,5mm audio cable between the mic and the adapter, is that still long enough for X4? I assume there a (very) little more distance between the cold shoe and mic adapter because X4 is taller than X3 🙂
Hiya, please answer this... You mentioned how the X4 is good for semi-pro commercial photography. What about the X3? Would that be decent for taking pictures of the inside of properties? I've watched your X3 review before I bought it a while ago, but it's been a while so I forgot!
Your videos are a lot more polished now. Great job.
Thanks- although I’m actually scaling them way back to be less polished. No music, overusing text graphics etc. just bare bones. Makes it much easier to make videos 😀
Hello, how does the X4 with applied standard lens covers (applied in clean and dry conditions) perform in wet, rainy weather? Is there a seal arround the lenscover which stops moisture and fogging up or is this still a problem? That would be amazing to know, as i need to run my X3 without covers as they always fog up riding my bike in wet conditions making the shot unusable. Cheers😊
Another fantastic review. Is this compatible with the x3 GPS remote.
Thanks- not sure but you would think it would be
Thank you (as always) for your amazing and honest reviews. You are the reason I bought my first 360 camera. I did see another video that noticed the same thing you did at 3:11 about the premium lens guards being worse than the plastic ones. Maybe they will do something about the visible circles/rings that show up as they look like they appear in the same general vicinity - maybe software can erase it. Anyways, thanks again for a great review!
Considering your findings regarding not seeing higher photo quality in the X4, would upgrading from an even older X2 (lower photo resolution) to an X4 be a significant improvement for photos?
Thank you so much for a thorough and down to earth review! X4 looks amazing, but hey - money matters - I will look for a used X3 for now.
