I think Ryanair gets an unfair bad rap. Clearly their pilots are talented - their company boasts an extremely good safety record. Thanks for giving us some insight into their company policies Emanuel.
totally agree, ryanair really isn't half bad
Agreed
Most of the "hard landing" videos you see aren't even hard landings, just poor (or intentionally poor) camera work and overdone gasps or exclamations. A cynical person would say it's intentional to get views.
I agree, their aircraft safety and staff is not the problem. Their pilots and cabine crew are amazingly talentend, motivated, hard working and very capable! I feel the problem is more the economic motivation of the company; sure an airline needs to make as much profit as possible… But never on the backs of their hard working employees who have (in my opinion as a formal cabin manager at a Dutch blue-ish airline haha) bad working conditions (contract-wise) and are always being pushed to the limits… Passengers need to realize that it is unlogical that you can fly 4 hours for 50 euro’s and expect that the staff is paid well… So staff and safety are very good. Employee treatment, not so much…
Sure :)
For us non real life pilots, your videos are gold mines. I always give my best effort to put your knowledge into practice. Thanks much for taking the time to produce these.
Thank you so much Gregory!
Idk why, but the "Today I'm gonna show you how to do a perfect ... landing" made me laugh pretty good. The timing of that camera shot was perfect 😂

This is very helpful. Thank you for your content. It is much appreciated !
Just starting soon my Mentored Mcc, very helpful thank you Captain 😋
So very glad I found these vids! Exactly what I was looking for
Thank you!!! This really helped me to improve my landing!!! Just did my first ever butter landing!!!
Perfect landing every time! Thank You Sir!💙
Very nice. Thanks for sharing.
Great video. I ordered some pedals so I hope that will help me as well
Really helpful - Thanks! Currently struggling with overheating brakes and tyre issues LOL!
Don't take this the wrong way, as every FO gets ground shy at about 40ft. Love your content :D
Superb
Thanks
Hello! I would love to see you do a video on explaining when it is best to drop/lower the main landing gear for your approach via ILS or VOR localizer.
Usually 2500RA call-out.
At 4NM in VMC and 5NM in IMC in the 737. In the A320 at the 2000ft RA call (aka 6NM final).
great vid!! im curious now, what does that r censored word mean uncensored
Hey Ng Driver, Great video as always. Out of curiosity, what are your rudder sensitivity settings? Maybe you could do a video on best control settings with PMDG in MSFS. The ground physics in MSFS are very frustrating, especially with yaw. Thanks.
Are you sure it's an msfs issue and not one of the aircraft? The FBW has very good ground handling, and it is also an msfs aircraft
What you said before about incorrect aircraft behavior in msfs is legit. Because when im in the pmdg 737. I hafta change landing technique all the time. Even with the same aircraft, landing weight and weather. At least it keeps it challenging I guess even though it's not 100 percent accurate.
Interesting. Thnx. Why do some of my Autolands hit the ground at over 400 fpm ? Is it the ILS info at some airports ?
I think what gets a lot of virtual pilots in trouble are "landing grades" in Virtual Airline programs. They induce sim pilots to extend flares halfway down the runway or longer to obtain "a good number". What sim pilots do not realize is the real aircraft does not have a meter / grade feature showing "fps at touchdown".
In this case it would only be the fault of the virtual airlines who dont know how to train their simmers and mislead them.
@@Hk-uw8my Agreed.
Excellent video, as always. One issue though. It's not a trademark R*****r landing unless you try to engrave your name into the runway with the landing gear.
Thanks Emi. Again - very interesting. I note the mention of trim in your narration. Can you give a general idea of the point at which the last trimming is performed.....i.e. trim should not be used after ???? when?? (I gather the a/c is fully trimmed when disconnecting autopilot for a manual landing)
There is no general point there, but I'd say as soon as the flare manouver begins. Here's the theory: Once you pass your landing gate you are supposed to be on your Vref+xx speed and should not need any speed changes anymore. Without speed changes you don't need to trim. However when the plane feels out of trim just correct it. I can't tell you any exact defined point where not to trim anymore, but certainly I *can* tell you not to trim once the flare has started. The rest is pilot judgement.
@@A330Driver Thanks - much appreciated
Excellent video! Any tips for the Fenix Airbus A320?
@C H Thank you! The technique seems solid. I kind of knew that the flare should be at 30 ft, but I like the info you provided on RETARDing power at 10 ft +/- depending on runway wind. I'll give it some practice tomorrow. :)
that’s cool but how do you get your rate of descent where it needs to be 10 nm out without the aircraft going too slow?
lmao I was wondering what R***** was.... was not disappointed :D Thanks for all the recent videos Emi!
Glad you enjoyed!
@a330driver Awesome video. I have an unrelated question, why do pilots add "with Mike" or "with Kilo" at the end of their IFR clearance request?
Thanks! You need to state the ATIS information you have on board when requestion an IFR clearance. Correct phraseology would be "information Kilo" instead of "with Kilo", but once you got your radio operator certificate nobody cares about those anymore anyway it seems :D
I understand the R*****r right away lol
Hello Captain could you kindly do tutorial for Trim during takeoff & Landing - with how to set button for trim up and down thanks for all your times and hard work.
Hi, NEVER trim during takeoff or landing. Simple as that LOL
@@A330Driver -Thats what I thought, I do not trim during takeoff & Landing , But some people talk about it on channel So I was confused , that's why I asked the expert. Thanks for the confirmation. Captain.
Normally what you call the 'round out' is at 30/20 feet pitching the nose slightly up to slow the vertical speed and after that you go automatically in the flaire where you again slightly increase pitch and turn your engines to Idle. And then you set it at the ground ideally at the touchdown markers. I look always at the touchdown markers and I fly allways a little bit lower over the treshold so I don't have to let say break the rate of decent quite abruptly because if you do that at 20 feet its hard to estimate the amount of backpressure you need to give to stop the fast v/s and direct flaire. Those 2 actions so close to the runway make it very hard to avoid a hard landing or floating. Instead of the round wout I like a more a more even v/s trough the calling 50/40/30/20 and then initiate the flaire. And because I focus on the radio altimeter so instesd of breaking the v/s and directly after the flaire my v/s is slightly less so I only have to focus on the flaire beginning outbound 30ft. And because of the callouts I don't look at the end of the runway and that is maybe also because I have 1 screen so I can't use my peripheral vision to determine the v/s as much if I had 3 screens. When flying a lot with a type plane you get the memory how close you are to the runway. Can anyone with experience comment on if I learned landing the plane the wrong way. So if I for instance want to fly Real that I NEED to get rid off my bad habit landing the plane or is what I do not that big of a problem? Most of my landings are pretty smooth if I look at the touchdown markers instead of the end of the runway.
bla bla bla
@@noidea1234100 I've no idea about your bladiebladiebla comment.

Ah yes the *Train pases by* landing. How could i forget about the *hawk screech* landing
Did you make a video about the Cutback function of the 737 already, and if not, are you inclined to do so? I always wonder if I should ever use it for my climbouts.
I didn't because we don't use that function in my airline. In fact I don't think we even have it installed on our planes.
There’s a tutorial made by Southwest Virtual Airlines TV where the cutback function is used out of John Wayne Orange County.
Oftentimes my plane starts to gain a couple of feet altitude when I initiate the flare and then floats for a while. Is the nose up input to strong then? Thanks for the tips. Really enjoy your channel!
It’s hard to stay at the around 3‘ of pitch when flaring, sometimes people Just pull up too fast. Try flaring slower, maybe even earlier?
It would have been really helpful to see what the yoke was doing here. I am having extreme problems hand landing the pmdg 737, with no issues in the A320. Also, what about sensitivity settings for the yoke. Could you share those settings please?
Hi, linear sensitivities, no changes from default. Check my videos with tipps on how to land, I made a couple ones which you can easily find through the search function on the top right of the channel.
Someone knows how to read the FCTM 😂 great video, driver.
In the flight sim world that seems to be a seldomly seen skill ;-)
About as nice of a landing you can get in MSFS. But just a thought about the physics.. Just watch at 4:15 how when the aircraft lands it feels like a balloon on wheels. No compression. No indication of weight. It all sort of just tilts around on an axis. In X Plane you will see the shifting weight of the fuselage as well as the wings due to the forces of gravity.
Not really. Xp physics are over rated.
Very well explained. Do you follow the exact boeing recommended technique to achieve a smooth landing in real world?
The Boeing recommended technique doesn't produce a smooth landing and you shouldn't actually pursue a smooth landing as this sacrifices other more important things.
@@theHDRflightdeck agree
Is there a way to save a state like you have it setup ready for landing so I can practice?
yup, it is called FSI Panel)))
Hi Emmanuel, wondered if you have tried Bees 2.0 and whether you think it provides any learning value. Thx Alistair
Hi, unfortunately I don't even know what "Bees 2.0" would be. Google doesn't find anything either.
@@A330Driver sorry, typo, its Gees 2.0
I find it very hard to recall any landing theory I learned in this video as the landing happens just too fast😢 I guess more the best way to improve landing is just to do more landings.
That really is the best way to approach this (pun intended). Bc practice makes perfect
That title… what is going on?! My spider senses are tingling…
Unfortunately AFAIK, on MSF we don't any plugins to analyse the landing with more details such center line deviation, altitude over the threshold, speed, g's, etc. The ones I've seen so far, are quite limited. Any suggestions?
My favorite is SimToolKitPro, but it's not perfect.
Why fly R*****r? Everybody knows that Alpaca Airways (and its international partners Ameripaca and Alpacaflot) is always butter every day. I mean, you can never go wrong when your chief pilot is a Labrador retriever. :-P
All true.... but I have a feeling they need to work on their maintenance a bit ;-) kzhead.infopGBdQtKtV-c?feature=share
@@A330Driver Yeah, that's what hiring Jim the co-pilot's inbred third cousin from the East Midlands does for maintenance. Alpaca should probably tell him to bugger off. ;-)

All this is easy said and done on a 2D monitor... Add VR to the mix and it becomes harder to land after using a 2D monitor for so long. I've been using VR for about 6 months now and only now are my landings starting to look better. I don't know if I could go back to a monitor now. Haven't tried very challenging conditions so one day when the UK gets very bad winds and I'm not at work ill take her for a spin. should be fun 😬
You do realize he does this in real life right? 😂
Are you holding Vapp until Flare or Touchdown? Thanks for advice
You should maintain Vapp until the flare and aim to touchdown at Vref.
@@theHDRflightdeck cool, thanks buddy!
I don't get why you should look at the end of the runway. I do worse landings when looking at the end of the runway when flaring
It takes practice. That’s what I was taught when learning to land in my ppl courses. It seems unnatural, but it does deliver better landings

Your videos are helpful as well as interesting and you put a lot of work in creating them, no doubt on that. But it would be nice if you would inform about the fact that the "exclusive" or "early access" videos are available for "Business Class" members upwards only. I support what you're doing here, but with my "Economy Class" membership I only get some emotes or so, which is useless for me. So I've cancelled my membership. Some other streamers do it better in my opinion - basic membership for the helpful benefits and upper stages for the extra glitter to support the creator even more. Maybe a point you should think about...
Thanks, I'll consider that!
Honesty, the most difficult thing about landing for me is the roll out after touch down. The plane wobbles on me frequently. I think it's my inexpensive, under performing rudder pedals and still not finding the sweet spot for the sensitivity. Any tips are appreciated.
Even in the real aircraft it's difficult, you need to apply gentle inputs while looking at the far end of the runway.
Turn up “extreme dead zone” and leave sensitivity alone unless you need to make some minor tweaks later
Hmmm you didn't smash the main gear into the tarmac and break your passenger's spines sir, so it can't be one of their landings......... 🤣
It’s a shame but this phase of real flight is one of the most interesting and dangerous but in the sim it’s a damp squib with no real, sense of anything you just stop dropping 😢
I have heard the reason why Ryanair has such firm landings is because they want to avoid go arounds.I may be wrong but it sounds plausible
That's rumors only. There is one very simple reason: Ryanair operates some 3000 flights a day, naturally there will be more firm landings in Ryanair per day than for example in an airline operating much less flights. The operation of the plane is exactly the same in Ryanair as it is in other airlines.
This is the nicest scam anyone made to make people see the whole video. Love your Vids Mate!!!!! Hope R******r don't sue you LOL
it seems your pull back is around 40' calling instead of 20? I sometimes go final descend a tad quick at ~800-900fpm and judge flaring a bit early with slightly higher airspeed so close thrust a tad early too, like here kzhead.info/sun/a7Zqptmmnpl5aWg/bejne.html, will real pilots di similar?
It should be above 20, not at 20. At 20 it's usually too late and you end up with a youtube R*****r landing ;-)

@@flightsimulatorenthousiast6360 The height at which you start the flare depends on the conditions of the day. If you watch the last video on my channel I actually flare (the real airplane) at 10ft. Other days I need to flare at 50ft (downdrafts, tailwind gust, steep approach etc.)
