Dark Deception is an episodic horror game where the player enters a series of ever more terrifying nightmare portals to try and gather soul shards and make a hasty retreat before the monsters residing within catch up to them. These monsters range from clown gremlins, dread duckies, chef monkeys, living statues known as Gold Watchers and a whole host of deadly boss encounters. The enemy roster has only grown with the remastered release - Dark Deception Enhanced. In this video we take a look at monsters of all currently accesible across Dark Deception chapters 1, 2 and 3. Explaining their origins, revealing their jumpscares and looking at the environments each inhabits. As well as this we look at a possible theory behind the nightmare portals themselves and the demonic entity known as Malak. E’s notes say that the Murder Monkeys are the souls of murderers who abandoned their humanity and chose to become monsters, thus Malak turning them in the killer primates they are today. They literally rejected humanity and returned to monke.

I think the bosses in each level might have committed a sin in the same category as the other monsters but on a greater level. For example; The chef monkey could have been a cannibal. Which is why he is a chef The giant gold watchers were corrupted kings or political leaders, which explains why they're much taller and loom over everyone else. The doom ducky might have been a pathological liar and very manipulative, shown by his many hands. The goliath clowns could have targeted vulnerable people with their trolling. Like how those people behind momo targeted young kids.

I'm pretty sure this E character is the person who came before Doug (the character you play as). Bierce mentions in the tutorial that the tablet was "Left by the last guest to disappoint me. A smart girl, not a very fast runner". Then, in E's first note, they say that they left the tablet to fake their death.

Bierce says “what is your connection to this place?”. This would seem to indicate not everything here is of doug’s making. Bierce also reminisces about the circus, which would seem to connect _her_ to stage five. She is something of a provocateur, after all. The clowns are those who made a habit of teasing or provoking others in life, and Bierce has no end of verbal jabs for the player. Trolling is her sin, not doug’s. Her dialogue also implies she’s unaware that her sins are also shaping the levels. Furthermore, I think stages two and three are also Bierce’s hell. Two tells us about the crimes she committed against Agatha (who inhabits the stage) and three is centered on greed- the thing that drove her to commit them and deal with devils.
Tbh, the relams haven’t had enough time to start connecting to Doug really. They’re basing off Bierce since she’s been there the longest… but at the start of Crazy Carnevil it’s linking more to Doug. The transition stage
@@Agent-Ig well, stages one and four seem to be pretty connected to Doug over Bierce. Wrath and deception/manipulation, two things he inflicted on his family.
@@Fluffkitscripts Monkey Buisness is basically impossible to be connected to Doug. He has just arrived and entered the one of the nightmare realms for the first time. Malak isn’t even aware of his presence until his leaving. It’s connected to Bierce almost to the extremes, the souls of the murderers have been turned into monkeys, dressed up like bellhops and set to patrol a fancy hotel. In the voice memos it is almost explicitly said that Bierce had very little care for people of a lower authority then her. While on her popularity power trip, I have no doubt that she stayed in extravagant hotels and referred to the workers as ‘apes’. I wouldn’t be surprised if she had also killed a maid while at one hotel and blamed it on the bellhop and the chef, which is why the monkeys take those two roles. Stage 4, aka Stranger Sewers dose have a stronger connection to Doug yes. As Malak states, none of Bierce’s mortals have gotten this far, so the levels are getting less and less focused on Bierce’s sins. It’s why Stranger Sewers + Crazy Carnevil have actual documents related to Doug rather then a whiteboard and some scrawlings on the walls. The further along Doug gets and the more time he spends inside the nightmares, the more material they have to use against him to break him down and force him into either a panic attack or a surrender. I sincerely doubt that Bierce will find any connections between herself and the nightmares of Toment Therapy, Mascot Mayhem and Bearly Buried.
@@Agent-Ig there’s no reason to assume the realm takes time to adapt. You’re making up rules. Especially with the “no mortals have gotten this far” line. Why would bierce’s minions mold the realms to her? Why wouldn’t Doug do the same? What you’re saying makes no sense. I assume stage one is connected to Doug because he’s implied to have been wrathful and resentful towards his family, possibly even so far as to kill them.

the child is ironically the most innocent of them all due to the unwanted trauma and death she was put through (if the theory of her being the canon sacrifice is true) which caused her to become what we know her as now. and since she died as a child, she would’ve been going to school which is why the entire map is a twisted school that could likely be based off of the in-universe school she went to when she was alive

I noticed something while watching u play the game. Don’t know if everyone already figured it out, but in each nightmare you get a power similar to the enemies of the previous one. The Chef Monkey speed, Agatha teleportation, The Gold Watchers awareness, and the Dreadful Duckies stun. So maybe the Clown Gremlins would give you decoy illusions or summon something to distract enemies, considering that a lot shows up when their cars gets close.
Dang that's a nice detail. Considering the next level is the Nurses, I'd say that a multiplication decoy ability is probable
I would like to think that the clown gremlins uses telekinesis to draw other gremlins closer for aid when one finds you, since that is a mechanic that these monsters use. Telekinesis just so happens to be the next power based on the files from the game.

Here's my guess for the rest of the enemies: The Nurses - Lust; Because usually in television media nurses are seen as sex symbols and are usually used for sexual jokes, just consider the nurse from Animaniacs (just darker). This would be very clever on Glowstick's part to play with the trope. Mama Bear and Cubs - Gluttony; Because Mama is talking about feeding her cubs. And Bears eat a lot. Then again this confuses me because Hangry the Pig from the Joy Joy Gang talks about eating a lot as well. Joy Joy Gang - Treachery, Because of the influence of FNAF: turning innocent, kid-friendly characters in killers. EDIT: Then again, it may be just Bierce's treachery, but it's unclear where the game is going with this.

I can see that as plausible. I was also considering Blood Lust for the nurses because of the needles they carry (reminding me of a lizard girl from Gregory Horror Show). If this hold true, then the mannequins (Portal #9) represent Limbo. The tenth portal (presumably final boss) could represent Pride (often mentioned as "The Father of All Sins"), in which could represent either Bierce or Malak.
But the JJG were made before FNAF.

Now that we know the origins of the monsters, the abilities we get make much more sense. Specifically: Primal Fear. Primal Fear stuns other monsters, but outright destroys the Clown Gremlins sometimes. While mostly there for a gameplay reason, I think it has a story reason too: trolls and bullies like the souls of the clowns always run at the first sign of real trouble, so when confronted with that trouble in the form of Primal Fear, it sometimes destroys the more cowardly ones.

You can run on with this idea for the dread duckies as well. The dread duckies are lies and cheats, so an enhanced mind can see through their lies. Run from the child (not sure about that). Gold watchers fell into the pits of greed, the literal traps you teleport around. Murder monkeys are just murderers, nothing special, so they get nothing special to deal with them.

I'd like to add to the maid's daughter theory. You never pointed out Agatha called Malik "dad". Wouldn't it make sense that any child sacrifices are taken in by the demon as someone to train with the point being the pain turns them into a demon? So if that is true its even more likely as Malik indeed taking in the soul in a father-like role of teaching her to be a demon that deals suffering because she was innocent when killed and thus doesn't deserve torture but has the pain to torture others now? I hope that makes sense, I can be poor at explaining my thoughts sometimes.
I find it interesting how our player's trials seem to be all involved around kids toys or things that usually go with children like toys or memories or experiences that specifically adhere to our childhood selves. Maybe the guilt caused from Tammy had some part in helping create these hurdles for him to jump over- as if the death of his daughter and him being bad father in itself was enough to build up and become something more sinister due to all the hatred and sorrow felt

I agree that the portals all lead to particular circles belonging to Malak, but I would expand on this by saying that there are more circles, ruled by other demons. Bierce has access to these circles because she sold her soul to Malak, meaning that these are the places she was supposed to end up, if she hadn't tricked him. I also believe that Doug, or really any human Bierce calls to help her, are people who have commited these sins, and that's the only way they're able to enter the circles. Especially since Bierce asks Doug what his connection is to one of the circles. This would also explain why Bierce seems to have only pulled in two people to help her so far, E and Doug. While you could make the argument that we simply don't know about any others, the fact that E had the tablet (implying she received it from Bierce, because why would she pick it up if she refused to play along with Bierce), then threw away it away to fake her death, and we then find where she presumably left it, seems to indicate to me that E and Doug are the only people Bierce has recruited so far; which would mean that Bierce can't just choose any rependent sinner as her helper, but that she needs someone in particular; like someone who has commited the 10 sins needed to enter the 10 portals. I also believe that with each realm, the boss monster serves as a sort of second-in-command to Malak of that particular circle, whose job it is to torment and rule over the sinners in that circle, who all used to be humans but made a deal with Malak to become demons working for him. We already see this with Agatha, but I believe this extends to the other circles as a lot of their environments don't really match the sin. Why is the circle of violence or murder a hotel for instance? The monkeys make sense as it represents the sinners having rejected their humanity, but why the hotel? We know this isn't just that the realm's look changes to suit the sinner who enters it, as E's notes describe the same things we see as Doug. So therefore I believe that the look of each circle is determined by who the boss monster, or ruler, was as a human. If the Chef Monkey worked at a hotel in life, and used his position to kill people (maybe even cooking and serving them to the other hotel guests, as that's a reliable way of hiding a dead body, and would fit the loss of humanity theme), then it would make sense why the realm looks like a hotel. For Agatha, I agree that she's wrath; probably to be specific, people who are so consumed with wrath that they hurt others. I don't think Agatha was the sacrificed child though, as Agatha's arms and legs looking so charcoaled seems to indicate that she died by burning, but Bierce's diary heavily suggest that she used a knife to sacrifice the child. I think Agatha was heavily abused in life, and it lead her to snap and burn her school to the ground, along with everyone inside, including herself. That would explain why her realm is a school. Her dislike of Bierce could simply be that she's an enemy of Malak, since I don't think if Agatha is the demonic avatar of wrath, and Bierce was the one who killed her, she would simply draw a picture of herself laughing at Bierce being covered in poop and trash; I feel like if Bierce killed Agatha, Agatha would have drawn some very different pictures. The third circle is simple, as it's basically explained; it's greed. This is also one of the few realms with a theme that fits the sin, although we could expand on it, and say that the circle's look is a more opulent version of the ruler's home in life if he was rich, or maybe the ruler was more working class desiring to be rich, and the look of the realm is that of a model set he owned and doted over; hence why the boss isn't actually inside the manor grounds, but towering over it. The fourth circle also basically explains it, although like with Monkey Business, there doesn't really seem to be any through-line for why liars and people who commit fraud are sent to a sewer realm and turned into rubber ducks. I feel like this once again supports my theory of the circle's look being dictated by the ruler, as otherwise it seems a little random. Maybe in life the ruler of this realm pretended to be a plumber (or several other professions and plumber was just their most prevalent or the last one they used) in order to gain access to different locations, like people's apartments, or the sewer system; access they then used for nefarious purposes. The fifth circle is different, as it technically has three bosses in the form of the three Goliath Clowns. I believe that these three worked together in the circus as clowns, hated their job, and took it out on others. Whether it be by scaring children while on the job, or by commiting actual trolling through the internet. While we only have had a small glimpse of the three next levels, we might be able to determine what they represent through what we have seen. Torment Therapy could represent lust; the nurses there take some inspiration from the Silent Hill 2 nurses, and they were a representation of the protagonist lusting after the nurses at his wife's hospital. It could also represent treachery since, again with the Silent Hill 2 inspiration, the protagonist there betrayed his wife. Mascot Mayhem could perhaps represent gluttony. It is worth noting that while gluttony is often characterized as just over-eating, it is actually the sin of having more resources than you need while others are suffering. If that sounds similar to greed, it is because greed is the action that you take to get and keep your resources, while gluttony is simply having way more than you need. With the level apparently being full of several of copies of the Joy Joy Gang, which could be seen as having more than you need, as well as the level being an amusement park, which could be seen as a waste of resources as it doesn't serve a particular purpose other than taking up space that could be used for other things, while also generally draining resources like power, and providing overpriced food and souvenirs. (Let it be known that I have nothing against amusement parks, this is just from an analytic standpoint) Finally Bearly Buried could also either be lust or treachery. Lust fits because of Mama Bear being, well, a mother, and a single mom at that; perhaps a woman facing the consequences of having to raise the kids on her own because the baby daddy only wanted to bang and then leave? And now the sinners of lust take the form of her teddy bear babies, hideous little monsters representing the very children the sinners may have abandoned? If treachery, it fits since the circle of treachery in Dante's Inferno is aimed at those who betrayed those they were close to, like family members. So now the sinners are forced into this familial relationship with the ruler of this realm
So to recap: Monkeys = Violence Agatha = Wrath Ducks = Fraud Gold Watchers = Greed Clowns = Heresy
Maybe one of the circles is a special kind of ring of hell, maybe one that’s personal for each specific person? If this is the case the clown one might be this ring since our character apparently has a fear of clowns

Here’s my confusion and my personal idea about this. The nurses could be lust due to their design being based on the whole “Sexy Nurses” trope. And maybe the tenth portal will just be a final face off against Malak. The other 9 being the circles and the last one being a sort of Malak-made arena for him to finally face you himself. I also think the mannequins or whatever they are will be limbo. However, I have no idea where the Joy Joy Gang fit in the 9 circles. Hangry perfectly fits gluttony. However, there’s 3 different types of them (Hangry, Lucky and Penny), not just Hangry. Anyone have any ideas about the Joy Joy Gang’s specific circle?

If we use Lust for the Nurse, and Gluttony for Mama Bear, then maybe the Joy Joy Gang could represent Treachery? I’m not sure how it’s gonna work, but I can see the Gang acting nice and friendly for Doug, and then do a 180 and show their true side and want to kill him.
@@insideofchrissysmind I think you’re right. The first song in the Mascot Mayhem OST is them singing about making kids feel safe and happy. They say things like “this is everybody’s happy place” and “we put a smile on everybody’s faces”. But we already know that they want to kill, and that they are obviously lying.

After much thinking, I have to say that this is my *ABSOLUTE FAVORITE* horror game ever made. The next favorites being DDLC, BATDR, Cooking Companions, and Spooky's Jumpscare Masion.
So, what do you all think the chapter 4 portals represent? Here's my guesses: Torment Therapy - Lust Mascot Mayhem - Gluttony or Pride Bearly Buried - Adultery (Not really a circle for what I can see, but it's all I got)
Why adultery? Makes more sense for Bearly Buried to be Gluttony. Since bears literally eat an entire Winter's worth of food and then sleep through it.

I'm assuming the first 9 levels are going to be the 9 levels of hell, and the last portal is where you face off against malak himself. Here are my theories as to what the monsters represent. Murder Monkeys - Violence Agatha - Anger Gold Watchers - Greed Dread Duckies - Fraud Clown Gremlins - Heresy Reaper Nurses - Lust Joy Joy Gang - Treachery Mama Bear/Trigger Teddies - Gluttony Mannequins - Limbo

the murder monkeys represent the meme “go back I want to be monke!” You get it because they’re monkeys! And the mini clowns represent troll face in 2011 when troll face was happy where he trolled people before he got used for the memes were incidents happened which were Very magical and very terrible. Mostly I think Agatha kind a looks like a play time from Baldy‘s basics which meaning that her design might be based off playtime mostly I found her similar to playtime because of her face. And also her speed speedy enough to be like playtime and force us to play jump rope. Also the gold watchers might be referencing SCP 173 The statue which was being called the peanut and if you look away from the peanut It come closer if you look away again you get your neck cracked so yeah you ded. The dread ducky‘s might be referencing the meme “A duck walked up to a lemonade stand it said that a man running the stand hey, bum bum bum have any grapes? The man said no it’s just lemonade it’s home and it’s fresh and it’s all homemade”

Vince livings kinda already implied that "-E" is called "... Evans" since it says "Evans was here", in monkey business, behind some boards near one of the extras, in his recent enhanced stream :) Vince even said "no-one had found this yet" XD I'm also aware that -E is probably the "very clever girl. Just not a very fast runner", that bierce mentions in chapter 1 as the person that came before Doug. Meaning that the "-E is detective Evans" theory i've seen is probably invalid since its implied that Detective Evans is male.

Honestly, Agatha has been my best favorite monster so far. Although I also like the Joy Joy gang and the Reaper Nurses, my heart just has a big soft spot for her. She gives me chills everytime I hear her scream.

A correction for the Gold Watchers entry: they are in Baroque era clothing, a French artistic movement in the late 17th and early 18th centuries characterized by lavish fabrics, gilded architecture and furniture, and sumptuous, aristocratic subject matter dominating the painting scene. Most recognize Baroque era items for their opulence, rather than substance found within, very similar to the greedy souls burning within the Gold Watcher husks.

I really want to see more from this game. I'm super interested in the story and haven't heard anything about this game for a good few years now. Sounds like the remastered version is worth revisiting those insane levels again!
I really like the rings of hell theory. I think i know what the last portal is. judgement, where you are chased by malak (who is a stand in for your demons), and you must shut different doors and portals, which are letting the monsters from previous monsters from the levels, like closing out your demons and forgiving yourself. at the end, you reunite with your family, as you move on to the afterlife, finally appreciating your daughter and wife.
Since you mentioned the 9 circles of hell SHB, I thought over the other sins you mentioned such as Treachery, Lust and Gluttony. (I’m under the assumption limbo is the tenth one with Bierce/Malak so it’s subject to change). Gluttony could refer to the Reaper Nurses/The Matron with how they talk about needles, pills and how ghastly the matron looks, this one is a stretch since we got very little info regarding the sixth level but I have a feeling it could be that one to symbolize how Doug thought his wife and daughter shackled him down with their incessant needs and the medical bills he had to pay. Treachery is probably the joy joy gang, we got a lot of trailers featuring them and Lucky mentions how he never loses, probably meaning that him and his crew lie, cheat to get ahead which could symbolize Doug’s duplicitous actions when he was alive as an attorney and as a husband and father. They could symbolize how he would do anything to get ahead in life but I believe it could be something else. For Lust I imagine Mama Bear and her teddies are that one because of how affectionate she is to her teddies and she seems pseudo amicable to Doug when he entered her cabin/cave. Mama bear could also be a reference to Doug’s overbearing mother and maybe his flirtatious playboy nature towards women and the numerous sexual harassment suits he faced. Mama bear says “Mother knows best” and giggles which brings me back to how friendly she is perceived before assaulting us with her “babies”. I’m not sure where the Mannequins fall into play but it like chapter 5 is shrouded in mystery so who knows if my theories are right

I actually have a whole backstory theory for Agatha and why she hates Beirce so much: So it is said that the child was sacrificed in order to summon Malak. Her disfigured melted-like hands and burn marks on her face and feet probably indicate that she was burned alive, which is how she was sacrificed. And also, when she shouts "BEIRCE, STAY OUT OF MY ROOM!" it probably means that she was burnt in her bedroom. For some reason I have a feeling that Beirce set her room on fire and then locked her in there, with poor Agatha having nowhere to escape. Then the fire caused her unhuman like hands and burn marks all over her body. I just get chills when I picture in my head a more regular and human like Agatha pounding on her bedroom door trying to escape her flaming room. Plus, in the cutscene before we go to Bearly Buried, Agatha jumps of of Beirce's back after stabbing her and says something like "Not sorry at all, are ya? Well that's ok, an apology won't save you now!" And the anger in her voice as she shouts "BEIRCE, STAY OUT OF MY ROOM!" shows the fearfulness and anger when she was sacrificed, or at least she's angry now. That's just a theory of mine, bye :3
The character E is called Evans as you can see in an area in the first chapter where “evan was here” is writen on the wall. I don’t have any more proof but both start with E and why else would that be hidden.

I do like that they went back to the previous levels and added boss fights to them since they started to do that with the sewer level, makes the encounters more adrenaline pumping.

I'm 100% sure that E stands for Evan. On the first level, Monkey Business, there is a blocked-off area the says "Evan was here". I might not be correct but I'm pretty sure It's Evan. In the secret letters, Evan mentions being able to avoid Bierce or so etching and follow in His path "only where he has been". I'm pretty sure He references to Malak and E is Evan :)

I have an idea what the first 5 portals of hell are in terms of representing the circles of hell. Murder Monkeys: Violence (they are killers) Agatha: Anger (Agatha is vengeful) Gold Watchers: Greed (they love gold) Dread Duckies: Lust (they hide among the masses before popping out and seducing you under the treacherous waters) Clown Gremlins: Fraud (they find joy in making others miserable, they think highly of themselves though they are no shorter than stumps)
