Comp games finish after 80 minutes and finals keep playing until a try is scored.
Unless it’s a game that requires a definitive result like a finals game or state of origin, then they should just do away with the golden point
And only game 3 of origin of decider should go to extra time

Yeah agree it would make it more exciting. Imagine the warriors kick a field goal in the first minute of extra time but the Dragons then score a try 30 seconds out from the end of extra time. That would be better. Or even golden point at the end of 10 mins extra time

Extra time is a ridiculous concept. Giving teams extra time to win a game is an unfair advantage over all other teams in the competition. Why should any team be given longer game time to earn two points from a game instead of one point? Imagine if your team is coming eighth in the last round of the comp and is one point ahead of ninth placed team and your team has better for and against than the ninth placed team. If the ninth placed team plays their last game and draws the game and then wins on golden point, they leapfrog your team into 8th spot. If there was no golden point rule, then it is a draw and your team stays in 8th spot.

If your team is in 8th and ahead by one point, and the team in 9th gets a golden point win in the last round... That would mean the 9th placed team got more wins overall in the season and is therefore one point ahead of your team. Hope that clears up the maths 👍
@@eddielam369 Yeah, I get what you are saying, but my point is that they have been given extra time in order to win the game. To me, that is an unfair advantage. If they have only been good enough to get a draw in the 80 minutes, why should they be given more time to get a win?
I think if you ask the fans they don’t want it either. Gus’ idea is better or scrap it completely
Golden Point makes the game interesting. Those moments shows glass and craftsmanship of elite players.
TBH I agree with both Gus and Gallen however this golden try rule should be applicable only in Finals and representative games.

A draw is a draw , forget golden point
3 extra time suggestions: - no golden point, go to golden try or play 10 minutes even if there is a field goal or penalty goal. If a penalty goal doesn't end a game, referees might actually have the balls to call a penalty in extra time. - scrap the half time and switching ends at 5 minutes, it kills the momentum - remove a player at the start of extra time and go 12v12 to open up the field a bit more
Hey Gal, how about you actually ask the fans? There is nothing of interest to the fans with this golden point lark. It actually creates a different game, with a serious reduction in the passing game and both sides taking pot shots at goal. That exciting running footy disappears in golden point. Fans would be happy with golden try or a draw after 80 minutes
Field goal kicking sucks to watch on tv aswell, can’t even tell if it’s going in just have to wait for players or crowds reaction
For the first time i agree with Gus..Play the given 80mins and if its a draw a point each..Why is a draw so 'unacceptable' these days?

Having Golden Point in the regular season is unnecessary. If the game can result in a draw after Golden Point period then why not just have a draw after 80 mins?

I agree, each team should get a point at Fulltime and then play an extra 10 minutes for a Golden Try to get the extra point.

Also need to bring back the 20m tap. (Put the ball on the ground, tap it forward with Ur foot. Then pick it up and run) non of this tapping it on the run in mid air.

i think just play a 10 minute extra time whoevers winning after 10 minutes of extra time wins. it gives teams a chance to make a comeback and makes tries more valuable
Golden try or winner by points at the end of the extra time. That will mean teams will still go for tries, or they can battle it out for points.
Do what they did here in uk in the league below super league, 3 points a win, 2 points for a draw and 1 point if you lose within 12 points

I have been against Golden Point since day one of its inception. I'm relieved to hear other people are with me, I thought everyone liked it! I feel for the underdogs, a team like the Titans languishing on the bottom of the table, and they've battled hard against a top team and finished on level scores, only to be given another 10 minutes? It takes away upsets, a bottom of the ladder team drawing with a top 8 side is an upset, we like upsets, why give the favourites 10 more minutes to get out of jail and get the 2 points? I find myself actually celebrating when a rare draw DOES happen.
no extra time is good, splitting the points for a draw. the teams can try to kick field goals in the last 5-q0 minutes of the second half. ps. the extra time sucks out more energy from the players. the team will be lLESS fresh for the following week.

I don't often agree with Paul Gallen, but when it would mentioned about what Joey and JT would say about "Protect the playmakers" ... as Gallen said, "What were they?" Exactly. They are ex-playmakers and kickers calling for protection of playmakers and kickers. What a shocker, who'd have thought..... To listen to Johns and Thurston, you'd swear they want it so that the playmakers/kickers basically have free reign without fear of ever actually being tackled.
If teams are drawn at full time - each side gets one point. They then play golden point, the winner gets the extra point

Keep extra time but change the rules to resemble NFL. If a try is scored, game is over. But if a team kicks a FG, play on until extra time ends. Draws suck nobody wants to seem them - might as well not play a game if you're not playing to win.
I agree that players should be called out on bad PTB. In Superleague it is way worse than the NRL. Nobody actually attempts to PTB correctly over here, its ridiculous.

he is right. why can't games end in draws? every team has 80 mins to kick a field goal and be slice ahead, dont give them another 10 min to kick it, especially when it is nothing difficult in this type of game 1 penalty or 1 six more and you have comfortable position. RETURN TO THE DRAWS!

Gal: "It's exciting for the fans." What that suggests is that the game has been rubbish and you need Golden Point to make it exciting. The truth is most games are exciting and most teams try to win in normal time. Golden Point does two things: 1. It extends a game by ten minutes for already exhausted players who have given everything. 2. It turns the match from a game of rugby league into a drop-kick-a-thon. Get rid of it. The game is exciting as it is.
Golden try with a slight twist… play 10min without a halftime. Every 2min, one player from each side has to exit the field. Start with 13 players, end with 9 a side for the last 8-10min, no replacements! That would be the most entertaining, epic footy!! What a way to finish a game

I like gals golden try idea, but you can’t have golden try in finals or origin imo, have to play the full ten
I’m not a big fan of Golden Point. If the 2 teams can’t be separated after 80 minutes, they both should earn a point each. In saying that if it were to continue I’d like to see 5 minutes each way (not golden point) but in the first period they play 12 v 12. For the second period of 5 minutes, it becomes 11 v 11 - something must give and this will make scoring a try more incentivising. Still even after the ten extra minutes, both get 1 point each. If however there is a winner after the 10 additional minutes, the winner gets 2 points and the other team still gets 1 point (they should not be docked for making it that far). The less players in the field should open up more opportunities to score a try !
when Gould gives the example of teams in a 60-0 game getting the same pts as teams in a 1pt GP game, does he know they exact same scenario can happen with GP? you can get beat 60-0, and then the very game that follows can be a 1pt win from a FG at 79.55... same scenario and no GP period in sight... the only logical conclusion if you are using that scenario is to get rid of table points all together, and just have a pts differential table, which im not necessarily mad at... Does not Gould know that?

Leave it a draw in reg season. Finals have overtime and if one team can win in those 10 mins do a goal kicking shootout to spice it up. SJ penalty was a joke and raiders got let off with murder

I don’t care if it’s a try or point. There should be no draw. They don’t have draws in America. You play until there is a winner
"They don't have draws in America" is no reason for us to have the same rule. The overtime rules in the NFL were introduced in 1974 when each team played only 14 games. The main reason was to introduce more playing time and more ad revenue. But NFL teams were happy with the new rule because a draw hurt both teams with only 14 games to qualify for the finals. In the NRL we have 26 rounds, so a draw isn't fatal. Our athletes already face a season twice as long as the NFL, so making them play an extra ten minutes now and then, for no real reason, doesn't make sense.

Golden point sucks and so does the reliance on bombs, which relegate the game to a lottery. By the way, bombs were banned in junior league as far back as the 90s. And if you look at the NFL, a player can signal for a safe catch, which means when a player signals for a fair catch by rotating his arm, he can’t be touched or tackled, and thus avoids being smashed while he is trying to catch the ball.
I hate golden point, and during the year it's not needed. If teams can't be separated after 80 minutes then sharing the points is exactly the fair outcome. Instead, golden point gives the win to the team that is the luckiest, or is best at a skill that isn't a regular part of the game. Deciding a rugby league game on field goals is like asking two golfers who finish in a tie to run a foot race to decide the winner.

Nah a draw is so underwhelming, it's one reason soccer is boring because teams are happy to take a draw. We will have teams trying to draw rather then trying to win the game it's how we get upsets which is a reason NRL is great because anyone can beat anyone on their day.

I kinda agree with Gus’ idea but I’d do golden point and then 1 point for the winner and none for the loser. You want the 2 points then get the win in the 80

As a player that played from six till early 20 watching nrl now i cant anymore it makes me angry the game is in limbo its lost its way silly rules that ruin games silly decisions its not pleasant to watch any more to much politics if they could get politics out of the game it would prosper be more pure look players dont even know how to tackle or in some cases do a normal back line play they screw it up ok extra time not golden point
Hey, all you guys wanted all the rules changed to make it more attractive, keep it exciting for the fans, stop whining about it. You wanted a professional game so coaches , players will milk it for all its worth. Personally I liked the old rules that were in the 80's ... no forward passes, scrums, striking at the ball. At the end of the day ,it's just a game
