The pick was ok to me, the part that got me was off-season signing 80yr old kirk. QBs were being snatched up like plates at an all u can eat buffet. As a fan, I wanted to see them draft a QB. I rathered them addressed the D, but it's like everyone wanted a QB. I would have rathered left kirk along, kept Ridder, and drafted a QB. And no, our pick may not have made sense beings we went and got Kirk, but JJ at 10th, that's bad. Even the highlights they played for him was bad. Every one if them was pretty much where the receiver just happened to make a great play over the defender.

They could have gotten a pass rusher or pass catcher. Could have had Byron Murphy, Jared Verse or Chop Robinson. Could have also gotten Rome Odunze if they wanted to help Cousins. Even if Penix pans out then this will still look bad as why did you waste all that money on Cousins that could have helped you elsewhere?
If your goal is to win now you need pass rush. If your goal is to build for the future you get a cheaper veteran QB. Falcons did the worst of both worlds.

Lets really put this into context. They were all in to go after Watson coming off injury. Then they tell us they're werent interested in Lamar Jackson in a dome with Robinson. They then drop 100 guaranteed on a qb who is comimg of injury at 35 years old, just to draft an injury prone qb? I think they make the playoffs but that would have been a nice weapon or extra help on defense. This isnt like Jordan Love who sat for years but he still young, this guy might be 26, 27 or 28 when he plays.

The last time this happened was Bears then GM Ryan Pace who now works with Atlanta. The Bears had just signed Mike Glennon to a nice contract (nowhere Kirk like) then they drafted Mitch Trubisky when everyone thought Solomon Thomas who sucked worse and out of the league.
Falcons fans must relax. The Penix pick isn’t as bad as it sounds. The Eagles drafted Jalen Hurts in 2020, and Eagles fans threw a fit about it. The Jalen Hurts pick worked out well for Philadelphia. The Eagles paid Carson Wentz, but his injury history led the Eagles to eventually parting ways with Wentz. Kirk Cousins himself has his own injury history, and the Falcons should have been more careful about paying a quarterback with a long injury history.
The pick isn't bad at all. You would think after 2 years of horrible QB play with interceptions/fumbles/ bad reads and inaccuracies that cost us multiple games, we'd be cool, but nope.

Michael Penix Jr. on the surface sounds like a TERRIBLE selection, however, Michael Penix had a much higher athleticism score than McCarthy and Nix and learning under Kirk Cousins will help him fill in the gaps as it pertains to Production. HONESTLY, I wish more teams used the Packers strategy of developing QB's instead of throwing them out there. Look at all of the QB busts out there.
I like penix but Atlanta was not in any position to need a QB they could of drafted Dallas Turner or Latu or Rome odunze and got the other position wr/edge in the 2nd and used the rest on there other positions of need and would probably be considered by me as at least a team that could win the NFC South that and reaching for Ruke someone who I didn't have going until like the late 3rd or 4th was also stupid

Cousins is a solid QB but he ain't all that, just 1-4 in the playoffs (and already paid nearly half-a-billion for that mediocrity lol) and ain't even got to an NFC Championship Final like Jay Cutler (versus A-Rodge/Packers in 2011). Could be that Penix will outplay Cousins at some point, just as Da G.O.A.T./TB12 did to Bledsoe, M'Homey did to Alex Smith for Team Sriracha (KC Chiefs) yada-yada-yada.

Penix was a 2nd or 3rd round pick in a more normal draft situation where That is another reason why that pick was terrible besides paying Kirk Cousins. Perhaps the Falcons know something we all don't!??? However, we know something they apparently don't! The Falcons suck! It wasn't the worst pick in my opinion. That award belongs to the Patriots. They spent the 3rd pick in the draft to a future career back up QB who the Patriots might help improve on to have a couple of good season in the UFL. The guy has no real experience, never played against any real competition, can't stay in the pocket and allow plays to develop, and he has terrible foot work. How long are the Patriots willing to go winless until Drake Maye has developed? The Patriots are looking to be bad for a long time, probably even draft a quarterback in the first round next year as well, probably the #1 pick. Suckers!
