Did Atlanta Falcons blow it by not drafting Odunze instead of Penix? | Dan Patrick Show | NBC Sports
If Rick Neuheisel was the general manager of the Falcons, he would have drafted Rome Odunze as another weapon for Kirk Cousins rather than Michael Penix Jr., as he decides the QB who has the right to be more upset. #NBCSports #NFL #NFLDraft

Did Atlanta Falcons blow it by not drafting Odunze instead of Penix? | Dan Patrick Show | NBC Sports
/ nbcsports
Aa a Bears fan thank you Atlanta for letting us get Rome!
They blew it when they gave Cousins a 100 million guaranteed
These coaches and GM might not be here when penix play
Age is the difference between penix and other qbs who waited. Penix got screwed
Bears fan here. Atlanta made the right move for sure. Letting Odunze fall to 9 was a stroke of genius.
Did former Bears GM now Falcons Dir. of Personnel Ryan Pace have anything to do with the Penix selection? That would be ironic considering how he screwed up the Bears for years, to then have him hand them Adunze whom his replacement Poles coveted.
LOL 😂 exactly! Taken a step further he talked them into Penix!
About the only other argument I can think of for this pick is get some leverage on Kirk, but even that timing doesn’t make sense. He’s not coming up for any renegotiations any time soon. You’re already on the hook to pay him for next 2 years..
This was a deep receiver draft, DEEP. Atlanta could have easily gotten a good receiver in the 2nd round, even the 3rd. Compared to qb, receiver is the easiest receiver to get.
You figure Atlanta won’t be picking in the top 10 next couple years and might actually lose its first rounder next year. Not a bad idea to pick a QB for the future now.
You do? They're a fringe roster that just chose to waste their best asset.
I think that is the bottom line... If it wasn't going to be this year, why take Cousins, if it was this year, why take Penix?!? I don't get the comparison to the Packers, they already had a elite QB. The Falcons had to pay for one who needs to get up to speed and build confidence with a new team. Hard Knocks... Vikings or Bears.
You take penix because Atlanta did the same with Matt ima falcons fan an marcus and Desmond were terrible to watch penix is better than both
Facts yall all acting like we didn’t just see the broncos have no insurance at the QB passion and now 5 years will be wasted yall acting real clueless
@@jbhillz87 So you're cool with punting the next 2 years?
@TheMattTrakker you not punting the next two years if cousins is a competent qb you make the playoffs you have a qb for when they cut kirk in two years something you didn't have wit matt Ryan
Starting to believe this is more about who is the head coach and GM, and not exactly the pick…We literally are watching Denver Broncos pay Russ all that money to not play….And Sean Payton is a genius and did what he had to do….All I’m saying is that this is not an egregious move like people are pouring it on to be…
Yea ok 🤪
No Cousins Achilles is a serious injury guy might be cut after two seasons… when his money becomes more non guaranteed
That's still a mistake. You don't draft a 24 year old @ 8 to sit him for 2 years when your roster is fringe.
Only time will tell. If Pennix goes on to become a pro bowler then this pick looks genius.
Mac Jones was a pro bowler...
So didn’t the Falcons pick Desmond Rider to be “the guy” and they misjudged so why not again with Penix? Penix has a lower ceiling as a starter than is thought. He looked very shaky in the Championship game. But really isn’t the guy really screwed poor Taylor Heinicke who also has a ceiling but a great Cinderella story with a decent line and receiving corps and won’t he be cut now?
Ridder wasn't picked 8th overall. If they had taken Penix where they took Ridder, no one would care.
A WR v a QB?! Bruh… You NEED a QB if Cousins falls off.
Bruh, you don't draft a back up with 8 overall.
The answer is yes. Yes they did
Kirk got over paid I don’t care if he’s upset he better go out there and play. He ain’t no Brady the franchise don’t owe him anything except his money.
He didn't look happy about going to Atlanta I think he would like to be drafted by raiders
Russell Wilson effect I bet the broncos thought Russ was the answer and they didn’t need insurance too now 5 years wasted
Atlanta just married two wives two days apart.
Odunze wouldn’t be who he is without Penix. He’s a good receiver, but I saw a lot of games Penix threw the receiver open and dropped it in his breadbasket. Penix drops dimes and makes his receivers look great. You take the QB, receivers are a dime a dozen.
You need to watch again. Penix's downfield accuracy is bad. Enjoy picking in the top ten for another 5 years.
@@TheMattTrakker Earned the Maxwell Award, annually given to the nation's most outstanding player. Named a team captain and finished second in the Heisman Trophy voting, highest ever for a Husky. Set program records in passing yards and passing yards per game for the second year in a row. Led he nation in passing yards en route to All-Pac 12 second-team honors. Led the Huskies to the College Football Playoffs with an undefeated 13-0 record and Pac-12 Championship. Named the Sugar Bowl MVP after completing 29-for-38 for 430 yards and two touchdowns, with 31 rushing yards on three carries in the CFP semi-finals vs. Texas.
This idea that it's the same as Love is just stupid. He's older, and he was drafted 8th overall, not 26th. The packers also had a much better roster, the falcons are a fringe team.
If flacons picked a receiver after Kyle Pitts, Drake London, and Bijan they would probably be getting even more hate. Also they don't want to take away carries and touches for the other guys that they plan to feature this year with a real offensive season now that Coach Smith is gone.
Bears about to have 3 divas and a rookie diva who couldn't win in college. Guaranteed to not go well.
