Found Over 10,000 MASSIVE Redfish!!

In this episode of BlacktipH, I go searching for a massive school of redfish in Virginia, and we found a school with over 10,000 fish! We started off the day chumming for cobia in the Chesapeake Bay. After two hours of fishing, we finally got a bite! It was a large cobia, between 40-45lbs. After catching the cobia, we decided to travel into the ocean and search for a giant school of redfish. Austin spotted what appeared to be a large school of redfish. I put the drone in the sky and was in complete shock! There was over 10,000 redfish in this school, by far the largest school of redfish I've ever seen! I threw a huge topwater lure in the school of redfish. It took less than three seconds for a massive redfish to eat the lure! Austin and Steve both threw into the school and got hooked up instantly! We landed the three fish in the net and released them all safely. I broke my personal best record redfish several times! The largest redfish that I caught was well over 50lbs and probably weighed more than the Florida State Record.

  • As a Virginian, IT'S SO NICE TO SEE THE POPULATION OF THESE COMING BACK SO BIG AND STRONG. The slot-fish regulation clearly worked. In 10 years of fishing, I never caught a single red in the slot size. I've caught puppy drum, or monster redfish. All the monster redfish I caught are probably still out there being huge because I put them all back. I put the puppy drum back, too. Too short. I'm starting to think they grow all the way through the slot size in about 10 minutes because I've never once caught a keeper. It's a really good time catching reds, though. Cobia seem to be coming back, too.

    @Jafromobile@Jafromobile4 жыл бұрын
    • I was thinking the same thing, did they catch any slots? In Texas slot is 21-28". I've caught plenty of slots and one large red. In Texas you can tag 1 per year. I tagged it.

      @JamesBArca@JamesBArca4 жыл бұрын
    • Here in nc they all get huge, my uncles probably caught more 35+ pounders than slots in the past few years and I’m not sure why

We each hooked up with 2 a piece. The scales were bigger then 50 cent pieces. Man these are some of the hardest pulling fish there is. We caught em on peeler crabs. Off eastern shore. I've caught about everything you can catch down there but a cobia and sheepshead

  • Two questions, 1.what kind of net do they use for the cobia, its huge 2. What rod action and power do you use when casting for the reds, cobia, and sometimes Jack crevalles

  • Love seeing a massive bronze blob shifting and morphing over the flats before they break up. Land a fly in the middle and watch as the blob implodes upon itself, each fish fighting for a chance to kill the green intruder and get hooked...I still have that fly from my first red. John Rocker down in Apalachicola FL. We almost got roasted by lightening that day too. Great guide, go hook up with em Josh, if hes still there. He'll get you some good shots. He let me keep that fly he tied too when I was a younger lad. Witnessed him dive off a polling platform when lightening turned a palm on the island next to us into dust. Hahaha. Fun guy.

  • Great video, it's pretty normal fishing to get get huge cobia and reds mixed here in Virginia. I think we as Virginians tend to forget how special it is because it can be a daily occurrence almost. I have caught so many that I have been throwing holes topwater for years at them. Its crazy how long they will fight without a hook! I taped it once and it's on my page to watch. Something to try. Good work guys.

  • Lived in Vero Beach for years before the blackend red fad and we sometimes would see what appeared to be the shadow of a large cloud on the surface coming south toward the inlet . We would change to lures without hooks and would have more fun than you can imagine to see who could get a red the closest to the jetty.
