  • Two lures I would add to your selection would be a spinnerbait and a crankbait. Adding a gold spinner to your normal soft plastic setup can be the ticket when trying to cover some ground. I also like throwing a squarebill crankbait over hard shell bottoms or anywhere there are rocks. That bait bouncing off the bottom and bumping rocks will get the reds and trout to bite when they won't hit much else.

The Buggs lures are right up my alley, so I am going to mod some of the jig head/plastics I bought by adding some zonker strips and some flash and see if I can build something that has even more life, like Buggs has done. GREAT idea, and I have all the stuff sitting in the basement ready to tie some up. I will let you know how it turns out.

In addition to walk=the-dog topwaters I throw a wakebait with good results on reds and trout too. I swap the trebles out for inline single hooks. Nice video. • You seem to do the majority of your fishing from your boat. Many of us dont have one yet (but hope to rectify that soon) So I do a lot of fishing from the jetty if Im on my own. And my goto for the big Bulls are 3oz spoons - or 5/6" plastics. I had never fished a jetty till I moved here to Houston. But its such a buzz. Its not for everyone as it gets crazy and a little dangerous. Ive seen chaps out there on there own in the summer who have twisted a ankle. loadsa gear. boiling temperatures, not enough water. But when you see a big group of very big fish, the waves are crashing, birds diving you will be running those rocks chasing them down. My 1st 2 casts from the North jetty was using a gold 3oz. I caught a 52" Bull and a big Jack. So Ive been a jetty rat ever since lol Bit different to the Carp fishing I do here in England haha

  • How do I know what size hook works with a mud minnow (I am a fly fishing guy...). I ordered Salty Head Pro Series and Mud Minnows based on this video, and just want to make sure I am in good shape with a 3 1/2 Mud Minnow on a 3/16oz Salty Had Pro Series jig head, tied to a 30# bite leader, to a swivel, to 20# test for inshore where barracuda and snook and other toothy sharp critters live? Thanks for the help here!!

    • Small the bait smaller the hook as usual. With the mud minnow a 3/0 is usually perfect!!

    • And dumb question...the Salty Head Pro Series is a 3/0, right? I am learning the salt...@@see_you_out_there

    • For what it is worth, I just fired off a question to Jason at Hooked Up, and literally 2 minutes later I had a reply back and he just showed me via pictures in email how to rig properly. Super cool! Thanks to you and to @hookedupbaits!!

    • @@rbrunk7421 should have a 3/0 and a 5/0 option. Should be able to specify when purchasing. Either would be fine honestly. The mud minnow is a smaller profile bait so I just prefer the smaller hook personally

  • Would you use a circle hook on those paddle tail instead of a jig?

    • I would not, I'd stick to jhooks on jigs.b
