Mercedes-AMG C63 S v E43 comparison
So you've got $160k in your hip pocket and fancy a four-door wearing an AMG badge. Fortunately for you, Affalterbach offers two distinctly different choices, if separated in price by only a couple of grand.
In one corner sits the perennial favourite nameplate, the 2017 Mercedes-AMG C63 S.
Mid-sized and with a Herculean 375kW and 700Nm from its 4.0-litre biturbo V8 fed through the rear tyres, it arrives in your driveway with a big reputation and much sonic fanfare for $157,211 list. As a cleanskin, though - those optional ceramic brakes nudge an extra five figures. Temper the C63 S's hunger for wheelspin and it'll sprint to 100km/h from a standstill, says AMG, in just four seconds neat.
Quite a large step over to the opposing corner lurks the relative newcomer from the Merc skunkworks, the 2017 Mercedes-AMG E43. Its twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 produces a more modest 295kW and a lower 520 Newton Metre count, and the form guide states it's six-tenths slower in the 0-100km.h sprint. However, it's a larger and roomier sedan, plies all-wheel drive for sweat-free performance and promises a more balanced experience between performance and luxury.

I would prefer the e43, it is more well rounded and more usable but still fast enough and it has the better tech 😉👍🏻

Both very nice cars. E43 if you're a bit older and want a more luxurious daily driver, C63S for the pure speed and driving thrill.

What I don't get, is that if it wasn't a real AMG, why did AMG call it an AMG.
Because when it comes to marketing and advertising, you always make something more than it actually is
MB own AMG so they can do what they like with the name.
It is more right to say it is partly AMG.
Possibly an overstatement; people like to bring up those 1990s AMG Mitsubishis and go "maha! This was an AMG, so a C43 must be an AMG!" - ignoring that the 'bishi had come through the Affalterbach works, whereas the 43s were designed by MB & came off MB lines straight to the showroom.
This is a dumb comment. Why does a Supreme hoodie cost $100 more than a normal hoodie? Hint: it isn't because it's $100 better, it's the name brand. Slapping an AMG badge on a car is like Supreme slapping their logo on a hoodie.

E43 all day. Let’s be honest with ourselves here. None of us are professional drivers. And none of us commute on a race track to get to work in the morning. The e43 is just the better all around cat. Sure, you lose .6 seconds 0-60mph but the ride comfort, the awd system and the better looking exterior and interior is well worth it. But, I’m a yankee so what do I know right?
0-60 means nothing within 1-2 seconds the c63s would be gone out of sight. E63s would be the perfect car the real amg

Very rarely do C63S do anywhere near their quoted 0-100 time. The E43 will beat a C63S at the traffic lights - the majority of times. Consistency and median average times matter
In all honestly, i love both cars but i have to completely agree. E43 is a perfect balance of sensible luxury and speed. 4 door, plenty of room and a good kick in it. C63 is mostly just speed, handling and grunt. The luxury does not compare to the E class but the drive experience would be much more fun. And last i should make the comment, when on earth are you going to blitz it on Sydney roads. The only sad bit is they don't make 43's in coupe's. Have to wait for the E53's which costs a bit more.

I had to choose between these 2 cars and I went with the e43 with a stage 2 tune I take stock c63 wayyy better interior and exterior and all wheel drive!

RE: Real AMG hand built engines. It maybe so in the wonders of yesteryear. Perhaps Mercedes should label them a 43e if they don't want to cheapen the brand or upset the purists or alternatively do something similar to BMW with their M sport line. ie. M240i. On another note, a lot of guys would love to be motoring journalists, so don't take your jobs for granted. Motoring enthusiasts are serious about the machines. Don't make them feel like you don't have the same passion..

Rick Diamond are you asking because I use “Race” mode? Or just asking because I own the car. I bought this car because it is the best all around car in my opinion, fast, styling, Mercedes, safety technology etc.
I don’t want to upgrade from CLA45 to E43 because it’s slower. C63 S is good but I got my eyes on E63 S.. I hope they come out with a coupe version which is unlikely

Always go for a higher tier model than the top spec or trim on a lower model if the cost is relatively close. In this case, E43 is always better than a C63s.

The little a45 amg hatchback is more of a real amg than the e43amg. A real amg should have a hand built engine and have it’s maker’s name written on the engine cover

Sad that you think that's what makes an AMG. The Project ONE, Mercedes fastest AMG car, does not have an engine with it's makers name on it. Maybe we shouldn't call that an AMG either?

This is the fault of Mercedes Benz. Had they never marketed their sport models as AMGs, this type of comparison would never be an issue. Actually, it's BMW's fault for starting the factory badge engineering of their sport models as M cars. MB just had to follow suit to satisfy those would would want an "AMG" but couldn't afford the up-charge. @5:43 sums up why the E43 is not a real AMG :)

Well here's the plus. You aren't AMG and I doubt they care :) Just like they don't care if anyone debates what's a real AMG. Because at the end of the day Mercedes Benz wholly owns AMG and anything they put an AMG badge on, is in fact (as in not opinion) an AMG. So if they want to make an AMG golf cart, they can do that! And I wish they would because the butt hurt videos would be fantastic to watch. :D I'll also be sure to grin extra hard when I slaughter those C63's with my 43 whilst screaming out the window at them *But don't take it seriously mate, it's not a real AMG and I couldn't afford the zero dollar price difference* Hahahahah. 43 isn't and will never be AMG I have no clue why Merc insist to ruin the AMG badge with such models and flooding the market. We have AMG line, fake 43 AMG's and then the real AMG's what a stupidity :(
Its not up to you to define what is an amg and what isn't. An amg product goes well beyond just an engine. The 43 and amg line are both amg whether you think so or not. Amg themselves say its amg for crying out loud. They would know way more about what makes an amg then you ever will. This isn't stupid at all. What amg are doing is creating a spectrum of amg. You have the standard e class which is luxurious by default. Then you have the amg line which spicins up the standard e class to make it a little sport wise visually but still have similar dynamics of the standard e class. Then you have the 43 line which improves the dynamics and styling to be more sporty. And ofcourse you have the e63 which is all out beast. Thing is not everyone has the money to pay for a e63 but still want the looks and character of an amg to some degree... So amg create a spectrum of amg.... Essentially an entry level amg model of a particular class of Mercedes... In this case the e class. The 43 has its benefits... In addition to being sporty and fun to drive and cheaper than the e63 its also lighter which makes it a little bit more agile sometimes and its no where bear as much of a musquito gas guzzler which the e63 is. So their definitely is a market for this and its not stupid at all.
AMG model has always been dominated by monstrously powerful engines. NO 43 isn't a real AMG. For what you say there is a sport line!

Benzinio yes it is an amg. Just because amgs traditionally build v8s and v12s doesn't mean there isn't any room for a v6 which is inevitable. So by your logic the project one isn't an amg??? Neither is the Mercedes f1 car?? Because both have v6s. Lmao when in fact the both the f1 and project one are the ultimate amgs. So yes 43 is real amg.
NO it isn't! Not because it is not V8 the C32 was V6 as well, but it was mighty powerful which 43 isnt. 43 is the ex 450 engine and it is nothing special. Not sure if it is true but there was information this engine is based on Chrysler Pentastar engine families AND IT ISN'T AN AMG. It is just a bloody marketing and I have argued how stupid the Mercedes marketing is many times!

By the way... I bet a non car guy cant find the differences between C and E class... took at bot cars at the end of the video - they are not similar they a re bloody IDENTICAL! Despite the second LED in the headlights it is the same in front as well... Shame on you Merc :(
Benzinio car guy or not you are blind if you can't tell the difference. There is a similarity no doubt but they are definitely distinguishable even to a non car guy. Its not only the second led curve of the head lights, the whole front and grill of the e class is more angular whereas the c class is more curvy like a semi circle grill. And the tail lights and rear of the c class are noticably much more narrower. And the e class interior especially is completely different from the c class. Shame on merc? Actually one Mercedes isn't the only one who does, virtually every manufacturer does this one way or another and frankly there is nothing to be ashamed off and nothing wrong with this design philosophy. Its a great design. It strengthens brand identity of the company and as sales suggest it does very well. Think about it. Lets say e class had a completly different design to the c class. Let's say you like the design of the c class but hate the e class design. Now all of a sudden you will have to give up the e class's better Interior and go for the not as good c class... Or go to another company altogether. So with this philosophy you don't have to compromise things like that. Furthermore these cars are not meant to be attention grabbing. They are meant to be under the radar. Hence the concept of stealth wealth. So by looking similar to each other they can better achieve that. So frankly there is nothing wrong with this kind of design philosophy. It strengthens brand identity and it works as sales suggest. Shame on you for failing to see why many manufacturers do this and why it works for both them and the customers.
I've said "non car guy" put C, E and S class side by side and bet from 20 metres people (if not familiar with the brand) wouldn't get the differences except the size... at 50 meters they wouldn't get even that!
Benzinio believe or not, every guy can see difference between these car from 50 meters as their daylight leds differs. C class has one led, e class has 2 , s class has long and it is more curved in the end. So, basicially, it is easy to differ them

Not the car itself, but the sound was almost nonexistant, you had to really push it to get some decent sounds. But the C63 growls even at low rpm's. So i guess it depends on what you want. For me it came down to the driving experience, and IMO the sounds is half of that.
Well, not the car itself, it is fast, and felt fast, but the sound was nonexistant, had to push it really hard in sport+ to get some noise. The C63 grunts even in comfort and low rpm's. The C43 on the other hand, with performance exhaust has a really good exhaus note IMO. This is not an available option on the E43. I guess it comes down to how much you value the noise in your daily driving experience.
Enjoyed the review guys! Mercedes should call the E43, C43 etc. “Mercedes Sport” or something like that. They are not real AMGs, they are a tad softer than a full house AMG. They are trashing the brand.
