  • I have the same plans. The flotation he added to the transom is meant to give more (buoyancy) to the transom because the boat can be driven from the rear seat so by trimming the engine down you transfer the thrust of the motor so it lifts the transom and forces the bow down the boats rides flatter meaning less resistance IE faster on less fuel. The other issue is the small “rudder” hanging off the cavitation plate just above and behind the prop usually gray in color. Almost nobody knows what this is used for. When you are driving your boat, let go of the steering wheel and if the boat runs straight then great, if not the loosen the bolt on top of it and adjust it until the boat runs straight without you needing to hold the wheel

  • Nice build, just gotta get that motor trimmed right to stop the porpoising at high speed. The extra cavities behind the transom should act as trim tabs which usually works so you motor might not be at the right height. The rear part of your hull should be in a straight line with your cavitation plate.

  • Hmmm, no stem reinforcement, no corner posts for the transom, these places may have issues. Also I question the raked portions of the stern. While it looks really cool, If you ever need to shove off from a beach with any incoming waves, aren't the waves going to be redirected up and over the vertical transom?

Note how smooth it was around 10 minutes with the big dude in the front. Same result different technique. Pushes the front of the boat down. I spent hundreds of hours in my teens in front of a motor like that, great rig. I have great respect for someone who builds their own boat as a way to get started on the water. Excellent vid.

    • @@eastcoasttrekker9676 That resolved it. And their page did explains the unique transom design. Thanks. One more question for you - what kind of plywood did you use. The picture early in your construction lead me to believe you didn't use Marine grade. No biggy, that's always a debate. I'm of the opinion that if you pull your boat out of the water after use and keep it dry in storage, non-Marine grade would probably be fine and would be a more economical option for first time builders. Marine grade is currently about 2X more than good quality construction grade.

    @jesusoftheapes@jesusoftheapes2 жыл бұрын
    • It was rather easy though,just time consuming.If you can read and follow instructions,you can build this boat. Why should I need to trim the motor? It runs perfectly flat on wot,the bobbing on the first full speed run was because of excessive weight in the back, second run was flawless when weight distributed evenly.

    • There's a dude in my marina that I see every morning fishing. He's probably about 70, but honestly he could be older. He fishes out of what equates to a plywood box, and uses a random piece of wood as a paddle. People have been building boats out of all sorts of materials for many mannnnyyyy years. Everything in life is relative. Oh and ECT is right, this type of boat construction IS easy. There's a LOT of room for error, and things don't have to be perfect. Don't be so negative.

    • @@eskaymotorsports600 No I know a bunch of guys who have decided to make their own boat and got $3000 into it and quit. You can fish out of a plywood box if you are a hobby fisherman. You are correct but if that is the case buy a used Jon boat or small aluminum something. Boats are cheap if you do your looking around and unless you are good at building things and have a specific design you cannot buy anywhere there is no need to build a boat. I bought a fully rigged 14' alumacraft with a 20 hp outboard on a shore lander trailer for $150 bucks off craigslist once. I got a Stratos Tennessee addition fully rigged with a power drive and 115 hp merc for $500 because it had flooded and I cleaned it up and carpeted it and fished it for a decade before I sold it for $3k. Unless you have a specific design to work up that is unfindable building a boat is just a lot of work for a boat that will not be as nice to use as one you could get off the craigslist.
