Mazda has further refined the already-incredible #mazdamiata - Here's my quick review
2024 MAZDA MX-5 MIATA: PRICING AND PACKAGING
MX-5 Miata receives key updates inside and out that further refine the roadster’s successful formula.
New available Asymmetric limited-slip differential improves MX-5 Miata's renowned progressive, fun handling characteristics
Upgraded Mazda Connect system brings host of technological updates and new, larger display
DSC-Track Mode added to Miata Club MX-5 to provide drivers an additional option for closed circuit driving
Effective April 3, the destination and handling charge on the 2024 MX-5 Miata is now $1,185 ($1,230 in Alaska).
Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) today announces pricing for the updated 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata, which continues its long-standing tradition as a pure expression of effortless, joyful driving. Well-balanced, lightweight, and an outstanding power-to-weight ratio all help make MX-5 Miata a popular driver's car. On sale this winter, MX-5 Miata has been updated with a host of changes that all fans are sure to appreciate.
All MX-5 Miata models have a front engine, rear-wheel drive layout, with a Skyactiv-G 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine delivering an inspiring 181 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and 151 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm routed through a six-speed transmission. The MX-5 Miata Sport and Club models are exclusively paired with a six-speed manual transmission and MX-5 Miata Grand Touring is offered in either a manual transmission or a quick-shifting six-speed automatic transmission with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters.
The 2024 MX-5 Miata will continue to feature the well-received and appreciated Kinematic Posture Control (KPC), a software-based suspension performance technology developed by Mazda that manages different vehicle systems to help provide MX-5 Miata with improved precision and confidence in high-g cornering and behave as a harmonious extension of the driver's body without adding a single gram of weight. Taking advantage of existing rear suspension geometry designed to keep the MX-5 Miata planted under braking, KPC applies a very slight brake to the inner rear wheel during high-g cornering. This pulls down on that corner, suppressing body roll, and making steering response feel more linear through tight or rough corners. Slightly stronger braking is used when accelerating through a corner, enhancing the limited slip effect.
Building off this already strong package, MX-5 Miata receives major updates to the electric power-assisted steering (EPAS) system for 2024 including a new steering rack. The rack has been revised internally, resulting in reduced friction, as well as accompanying changes to the electric assist calibration through new software. This all results in smoother steering action with a more defined ‘on-center’ feeling for relaxed freeway cruising, yet greater precision as the front tires are loaded up under hard cornering.
MX-5 Miata’s exterior sees changes as well, with updated headlights that incorporate a new LED DRL element, new LED taillights and new wheel designs. With the addition of Zircon Sand Metallic in 2023, another new exterior color has been added to the roster for 2024 with Aero Gray, which offers a cool tone that contrasts nicely against MX-5 Miata’s available dark trim and wheels.
Inside, drivers benefit from a revised interior which gets several key updates. The center console receives extra padding for improved driver comfort. A revised gauge cluster now features simplified, high-contrast graphics for easier readability at a glance. All MX-5 Miata models also benefit from a new, larger 8.8-inch infotainment display, with touch functionality when using Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Paired with this new display is Mazda’s first ever integration of Alexa, which adds further flexibility, with hands-free commands for things like HVAC, radio and more. Alexa is able to accept commands for things inside the vehicle, as well as connect and control your smart home devices remotely. In the 2024 MX-5 Miata, this higher level of flexibility minimizes driver distraction, allowing them to remain focused on the winding roads ahead.

  • One difference between a car like the Miata and a motorcycle became obvious one day when I rode up to a red light next to a top-down Mustang. It was a beautiful, sunny day, and while I was sensibly wearing a full-face helmet, gloves, leather riding jacket, jeans, and boots, the Mustang driver was wearing shorts and a t-shirt. And I couldn't help but compare which of us might be feeling more "freedom."

  • I just bought my GT 6 months ago and I smile every time I get in it! I rented a RF and didn’t like it, it’s more like a Targa, restricts the sun and views, and wind buffets over 60 mph. My soft top feels like I’m going fast when I’m not, the manual 6 speed is so intoxicating to shift and I can get 37 MPG’s combined without trying. The PERFECT 2nd car. ✌️

Then a Fiesta ST also a blast to drive and practical but you always know you’re in a econo box. Now I’m right back in a 2023. The wagging of the gear shift knob like a tail of a dog is a great analogy when the Start switch is pressed ! The changes sent me down to a local Mazda dealer to check out the changes in person. For some reason the soft top versions are harder to find here in the Midwest but they had a 2024 RF & wasn't enthused because it was an automatic. Still on the fence about the 2024 but its harder to resist the temptation of the 2024.

The big plus is the asymmetrical LSD and Recaro seat and Brembo brakes which the UK only had on the 30th Anniversary Edition. Hopefully 35th Anniversary Edition comes and also the Spirit Racing model too.

One of my old co-workers had a Mazdaspeed MX-5 and he gave me a ride to pickup my car at the shop. Getting into the car was hilarious. My ass didn't even fit down into the seat all the way, it was more like lodged between the center console and the door. Forget about the seatbelt! Do get out of the car was even funnier. I had to tilt myself to the right and fall out head and arm first because I couldn't get my legs back enough to get them out of the door underneath the dash. It was fun for a minute, but never again. Luckily my Mazda 6 fits me great.

  • Just signed contract of sale paperwork yesterday for the base model manual MX5 RF and Mazda Japan is making my car as we speak. I will take delivery of it in 3 months here in Australia..... can't wait. Bought it for the pure joy of driving a good handling and road holding car, not too concerned about the "blings" (hence the base model), also the drivetrain is the same throughout the entire range - get better "better bang for my bucks". Here in Oz, especially where I live, the RF is a more practical car than a soft top. We are of course a right-hand drive nation and I can't but notice the MX5 is originally/primarily made for. Point in question: the handbrake(park brake) lever being closer to the driver and better reach for the control knob/dial on the centre column. Just my opinion. Drive safely.

  • You guys are lucky in the states; taking into account current USD / EUR currency rate, we pay 30-60% more depending on local taxes - CO2 of the Miata isn’t that brilliant to say the least. Anything above 100 - 120gram/km (0.6 mile) gets taxed like no tomorrow. Radar CC is a good addition, seems conflicting with the nature of the car I know, but I would like it for city traffic and long stretches towards an area where it is more fun to drive. Excellent video!!! 👍

    • prius can be lot more like miata, its not what it should be, dont waste money on mediocre , make them stop fooling around if they are gonna get your money. concept car videos... how about a video on what you guys think is the ideal car? driving efficiently is speeding up especially on more downhill-ish roads at optimal fuel level and engine RPM(RotationPerSecond), steering and braking minimally but smoothly. optimal effiency for toyota 2.4 inline 4 is 2/3 pedal down in 2k-3k rpm, cvt hybrid maintain constant rpm. not sure whats best to do this in: sport mode, fuel level is more, in eco mode its less. use EV mode if optimal combustion level would speed car too much (often, if car isnt letting you do that without the EV mode, it wont let you us EV mode.) use it a bit from a stop for smooth acceleration then when car is rolling use combustion then maybe use it a bit more. smooth acceleration is part of putting less weight on tires at a moment because: consider tire wear dust emissions and how much it cost to replace tires (most people are becoming increasingly even poorer than they already are and you can invest money into bigger money)like those "xenoestrogen endocrine disputing forever chemicals micro plastics" etc. apply less weight on tires and you'll allow more of that weight handling ability to be used for having more grip for endurance-race-pitstop-avoiding momentum preservation driving fun in the name of efficiency. being able to feel how close car is to its grip limit is good for this goal, similar to the lotus-car-enjoyers ideal. hybrid cars are arguably better than electric car because they lower use of combustion and battery mass and all materials overall without adding so much weight. weight worsens road wear damage (repairs cost emissions , money etc) , worsens crash safety for all (except few rich people who can afford super safe cars in the small chance that they are involved in crash and value their lives and have lives we can value). this is why aptera motors originally made diesel hybrid, but now sells electric cars to max profits and reputation as a "environmentally friendly brand." because batteries are not fully recyclable and combustion fuel is based on anaerobic bacteria that regenerates , which is why oil rigs go back to getting oil after abandoning the almost empty oil well years later . this is why arguably only combustion is proper, in rear mid engine weight distribution , rear wheel drive , with limited slip differential for minimal tire wear even in normal driver driving , for preserving momentum around turns more without too much slowing down by lateral (left /rights) g forces tires. genetically better population is being replaced with one that is more likley to be less loyal to each other and more loyal to selfish elites, and even they probably will be replaced with others, until theres noone left except the elites and few servants. so even hybrid seems useless. so overpopulation isnt a problem so running out of materials by over use probably wont happen. can you prove climate change is caused by human caused co2 or that its just milkovitch cycle of earths magnetic field tilting etc causing stuff like the usual natural ice ages etc? also see blackgrock esg score and their climatechnge talk, and see how they promote nonsense with ot of money, see colbert report "how blagroc conquered theworld" etc . . about climat change, see tony heller, tom nelson, suspicious observers, youtube chanels. i haff to talk like this znezorshp reasons to understand why so much nonsense if happening (in lot more ways than only car) see corbetts explaantion of climate crisis , "blackrock conauqered the world", federal reserve etc . ivor cumins, tony heller, magentic reversal news. vocational science of freedom how yoru assets are stolen from birth, western governers university . book called divine speech by nouman ali khan and sharif randhawa says " The Qur' an itself refers to its unmatched beauty and power as a proof of its divine origin, challenging its detractors to produce something comparable to it, or even to a single portion of it, if they claimed it was of human design (I 0:38; 11: 13; 17:88). • I've got my Chesse Balls and Coke Zero and I'm buckled in !!! Let's go !!! The MX-5 "ND3" is incredible. My only issue, and it's a big one, is at 1:26. The cheap plastic infotainment screen still looks like an afterthought, picked up from the toy section at Walmart. Mazda has got to do a better job at integrating their infotainment screens into the dash. Thin bezels. Minimal imprint. Small. Unobtrusive. Audi does it right. Mazda can do it right too. Also, I live in the northeast. For us, the RF model is the way to go. Mazda, if you're watching, with the "ND4", improve the infotainment screen and with the RF, allow the rear window to roll down to prevent wind buffing. Yes, the Mazda MX-5 is perfect but it could be more... "perfecter."

    • The new one is an improvement - lower profile, but yes it still looks like an afterthought, plonked down on top of the dash spoiling the view. It would be nice it they made it retract or fold down for people who don’t want the distraction. I always turn mine off but it’s still sat there looking ugly.

    • @@brickmissing8295 "plonked down on top of the dash spoiling the view." Exactly, and you can never NOT see it. It's always there. This cheap, ugly, plastic computer screen. C'mon Mazda! You must do better. Toyota does the same thing too. Their computer screens are plonked on top of the dash like some Blue Light Special. The new Prius is outstanding but the infotainment screen is like scratching on a chalkboard.

      @davidhunternyc1@davidhunternyc121 күн бұрын
    • @@brickmissing8295 The screen disappearing would add more cost & complicate the whole idea behind the Miata aka MX=5. So I disagree as a long time owner of an MX-5. I have a 2016 & find the screen to be very useful for Navigation or music infotainment. I see through the windshield just fine without any problems of obstruction. I also prefer to use the selection knob as the screen gets marred by oils on the fingers very quickly in touch mode - in daylight those finger prints mess up the screen. The only complaint I have about the infotainment is the quirky Navigation system sometimes does not allow addresses to be input in some areas - update needed ? Its been a great car & agree with Kirk a turbo is not needed - give me the instant throttle response of the naturally aspirated engine any day. Turbos just dull the throttle response / complicate the cooling system to handle all that extra heat.

    • David, when you mention Mazda making a change allowing the rear window to roll down, are you referring to putting the rear window down while the top is up? Because the window is “down” (actually stowed away with the center section) when the RF top is open. The only piece remaining in place is a clear wind blocker, which you can manually remove. -John

  • Think they also updated the rear tail lights to led's n the IP was enchanted. Also the trick when driving alone is the remove the cup hold on the drivers side so it easier to access center controls for screen. Also it's an advantage that u can have the RF n not lose much trunk space. There is no right model to recommend, it all comes down to personal preference. For me its the looks of the RF n can still enjoy open air experience.

They're all pearl. Tell your body shop to match that if you get some road rash. They will immediately try to lower your expectations of what the results will look like on a sunny day.

On the Mazda USA website, I built a Grand Touring 6AT soft top and an exact equivalent 6MT soft top and noticed that MRCC is "missing" from the standard features list on the manual car, at least on the specification section.

  • I've never needed more power. Maybe if I was tracking it but on the road it's plenty for on-ramps and perfect for the twisty mountain roads of the NE. And even with mostly spirited driving and more city miles than I'd prefer my lifetime mileage is still at 32.78mpg. Long highway drives avg 40-43 and I'm sure could go better, but I try to take the back roads as much as possible. More practical than you would think. Less than 5 cubic feet of space in the trunk but it's deep. Enough for a small cooler, 2 folding chairs, towels, and an overnight bag with clothes for 2 over a weekend. I'm taking it grocery shopping no problem. From what I hear most of the updates can't be retrofitted back to my '23. Maybe the taillights, but headlights and infotainment are apparently no-gos.

Honestly, I am not liking the fake plastic air intakes in the front facia and still think the daytime running lights looked better being there. The only real improvement I see is the larger touch screen that can be used as an actual touch screen while driving. • The biggest downside of the RF that you didn't mention is the LOUD wind buffeting when the top is open. When I purchased my GT back in 2021, I had every intention of buying the RF...until I test drove it. The wind noise was unbearable at any speed above 40 mph and was an immediate deal breaker. Those buttresses, as sexy as they are, trap the wind right next to your head. A lot of RF owners say it's no big deal for them, but it was bad enough to me that I decided to switch over to a soft top, and when I upgrade to a ND3 next year, it will be another soft top. I love the Miata so much and I will always own one.

Loved the car, but what I couldn’t get past ultimately was that as a touring car for longer drives the car was just not geared properly - over 3,000 rpm in 6th gear at 70 mph with such a drone that was just not pleasant. Maybe they have improved the gear ratios since then. Other than that, the car was a blast in just about all other situations, especially with the hard top.
