If you want to ride a motorcycle without dying, you need to have functioning brakes. But I guess if you do want to die while riding a motorcycle, you probably still need functioning brakes to maneuver out of your house/neighborhood and make your way down to the highway to gain the necessary speed to do so. I guess either way, make sure you have good brakes.

  • Carbon buildup can raise the compression. Once you start riding it, a few "Italian Tune-Ups" and maybe some Top Tier fuel (look it up) or a Techron additive, will gradually decarbonize them, , plus the rings and the intake valves. My advice, ride it a lot for a few months... with plenty of the aforementioned Italian Tune-Ups, and check again.

I took the sump off looking for it and nothing. Told myself "the previous owner must of got it out" 10 years later i had the engine out for some new O rings in the oil return pipes and took the sump off again, and found the tooth sitting on a little "shelf" made by the casting of the cases. It had been hanging out it there the whole time, if it had got in the gear box it would have lunched the engine. :-)

  • You can rescue pitted brake caliper pistons, critical when old pistons are no longer available. Smear with JB-Weld, wait to cure, then sand smooth. Good as new!

    @GoldwingDocs@GoldwingDocs2 жыл бұрын
    • LOL, the ole JB weld to the rescue. But you would be hard pressed to come up with a piston size that is unavailable now, the diameters are pretty easy, its the height and maybe dust seal/boot groove that can be difficult, but the lathe is your friend here.

    • @@uhtred7860 Actually I speak from personal experience! There are quite a few "unique" brake caliper pistons from the early 1980's GL1100 Goldwings that were single-model-year-specific parts, and haven't been available, OEM or aftermarket, in many, many years!

  • I ran into the EXACT SAME ISSUE you had with your rear brake with the front brake on my 2007 Z1000 I picked up as a project a few weeks ago. I bought a rebuild kit and a new reservoir (the old one had broken and allowed water to get in). Turns out, the piston seized in the bore and no amount of Kroil would free it up. Kawasaki sells all parts for the master cylinder individually EXCEPT the fucking body, so I bought a used unit. It’s sitting on my workbench as we speak and will be rebuilt as soon as I’m done with your video and my cup of coffee :)

    • I got told by a parts guy at my local Kawasaki shop that Kawasaki have a 10 year rolling obsolescence, after a model is 10 yrs old they stop making parts for it. Doesn't mean parts aren't available because of NOS and pattern parts, but it makes it difficult when you need to buy something like what you were after new. Or in my case, parts for a 85 KR250 tandem twin 2 stroke. :-)

      @uhtred7860@uhtred78602 жыл бұрын
    • Of course there's always the option of screwing a grease nipple in the bleed nipples bore and pumping the piston out with grease instead of air.. good old trick that literally ALWAYS works.

  • I completely rebuilt an American Yamaha 650 maxim, I'm in the UK. That sat for 18 year, I know your pain on the anti dive system, I didn't snap the top nut or break anything else mind you. The rod that goes from top to bottom is very fragile. If you want any pictures I'll send over. Great work.

  • Had a similar experience with "rare" parts on my Cherokee XJ. Broke a rear shock mount weldnut, and I thought I was hooped, but a search on the interweb revealed that, not only did a solution exist, but it was so common, there were already Chinese knock-offs available.

  • Hey Ron! I had an absolute blast watching this latest and greatest from you. You bring a ton of inspiration to a lot of people, including myself. You are very smart to walk away sometimes, get a breather and a fresh start after a set back. It can be so frustrating sometimes. Please, please, pleeease don't let the comment section get you down (not saying it is or anything). I've had a few channels end because of it, and that was such a tragedy. No matter what anyone else says, you are a hero to many. Thank you for all the hard work you do.
