    • My aunt (Mickey) and uncle (Floyd) from Watertown SD were avid rockhounds. They, too, were old, crusty, and dusty. I miss them so much.

  • Beautiful! Love the platelets one! I can’t get out to hunt anymore due to being handicapped, and don’t have the equipment to cut anything, so I have to discover beautiful bands and colors through others. Thanks for sharing!

  • Of course I love all of them! My dad slabbed a geode agate and stuck a garnet in the middles of them to make pendants for necklaces! I have one of them. So pretty!

  • beautiful first one. And the second one with crystals inside. Very rare to see white patterns, but it was very pleasant. loved all actually, interesting It looks like every country have their own interesting Agats. At 8.28, that one was special, loved the purple/pink color.

  • Hi Agate Dad, I have an idea that might help you, if you use a black or UV light, it can help with rockhounding because it turns out, Agate glows green to orange under a black light 👍

  • I so wish I could show you the Smokey quartz crystal i mined from Moat Mtn in NH…. Ok one of the faces??? Has an imprint of Lacey agate with a pyrite inclusion inside the Smokey….. I also found a beautiful nodule with tiny feldspar crystals all over the outside… like little clumps of cauliflower ❤WOW

  • @AgateDad Are you always ask? What are favorites? Are when you cut the rocks open? I can't really say I have a favorite because everyone you cut open. I absolutely love it just blows my mind on all these rocks myself. I don't consider a one of them a stinker Bean And yes, that word has caught on in our house. We always say stinker Bean😅

  • I used to go rockhounding with my grandfather when I was a kid. Sadly I have not done it since. What I've noticed is the rocks found all seem so tiny in comparison to what I remember. I lived in So Calif and we'd go to deserts in Calif, Arizona and Nevada. We even found brown diamonds in the desert once. I absolutely loved it. But I'm wondering are the areas sorta hunted out and only tiny specimens left or is just that I was going 60 years ago and I was 8- 10 years old so they seemed larger?
