Since payet left West Ham to go to his hometown club Marseille, they actually went to a Europa league final in that meantime, West Ham were fighting to stay in the premier league and right now floating around mid table going no where in any cups.. so yeah he did a good move going somewhere he feels home and doing more than west ham

Sure Marseille are a bit better than West Ham but Marseille aren't one of the top teams in Europe too. They are 5th place in the French league which apart from PSG doesn't have any top teams in it. After the EM 2016 where Payet was one of the best players of the tournament there a lot better teams interested in him. He could have played for almost any top team in England (Except Manchester City who had De Bruyne, Silva in his position), Juventus, or Atlethico Madrid. Bilic even said that indirectly that champions league is where he should have played.
Full credit to Payet. He knew what he wanted (to go home) and he did it.
If he stayed, we could’ve built off of the first season he played for us. We could’ve had a team with Arnautovic up front with Payet and Anderson just behind. With those three players we couldve pushed for europa league sooner, but still I reckon we’ve got a good chance of europa league next season.

Loved Billic at West Ham, I know without payet we were going to be 10-15 points worse off but I feel the whole Payet thing really felt personal for Billic, he was never the same after. I hope he comes back to the premier league one day.

Payet was the first time I saw a player take a step back in their own career… Voluntarily. Could of went on to play for any top side but chose to go back to LIgue 1, not even PSG but to Marseille.

What Scholes said makes a valuable point. Which is true. Whats he done since? 25 appearances, 4 goals, 6 assists for a team standing in 6th in a lower tier league which doesnt have the world coverage and fanbase that the EPL has, at 32 years old times a ticking. i watched payet play since saint-étienne, scholes is right. payet was at the peak of his career at west ham. he was fairly good with some great performances before that but at west ham he was excellent and he will be remembered for that.
