  • Rooney was a great player. He just peaked far too soon and eventually, declined too early. Still, a wonderful servant for club and country. Hard to imagine Liverpool could've had him.

  • The day he retires, is the day the whole world will appreciate how incredible he was. Humans have a habit of not realising what they have until it’s gone. In 20 years or so, people will be talking about this legend, and I’ll be proud to say I watched nearly every game he played. A truly phenomenal player, my favourite player of all time.

  • Brilliant, world class player. What he contributed to the United Team for all those years was immeasurable. Started off as a fiery, sometimes too aggressive teenager, but really mellowed throughout his twenties into a real leader. Brilliant goalscorer and general all rounded footballer. Horrifically underrated.

  • Rooney wast just a great goal scorer his link up play was amazing and he could hold the ball up really well considering he isn't the biggest man on the pitch but what I loved most about him was he always gave his all didn't matter who we were playing winning or losing home or away Rooney always gave his all for the shirt.

    • 2010/11, questioned the clubs ambition at the time, he was a player going I to his last contract and he wanted to make sure United were matching his ambitions. 2013 fergie knew he was done and wanted him out, fergie alwys knew when a player was on the decline, looking back its clear to see the difference in Rooney after 2013.

  • Weird that rooney is never spoken in the same light as Paul Gascoigne, Lampard, Gerrard or Scholes....He was class giving it all scoring goals one of the few good players along with DDG in the post Fergie Era.. rooney until 2011/12 was a beast....12/13 the limelight was taken by rvp and rightly so as rvp looked like scoring every single game....but rooney goes beyond scoring goals , was incredibly technical but never spoken in the same light as his peers

  • I read something very interesting a while back that said that Rooney was never as assertive as CR7. Rooney could have reached the levels of Cr7 but instead he was more of a team player and willing to play in midfield or wherever he was needed. Cr7 was always hungry to get goals and do what was better more so for himself

    • Rooney in the post Fergie era still managed to get 10+ goals season even when he was played more deep in midfield. Under Mourihno he just became a squad player but he should've played more. He atleast did something when he played assist or a goal. Rooney was play wide at times because of Jose tactics.
