Re ILCA; they wanted to make a unique game but basically because gamefreak/Pokemon company were releasing Legends, which they didn’t want to seem “lesser” than the remakes, they put SO MANY RESTRAINTS on ILCA and told them what they had to “make” as well as put insane time pressure on the company. ILCA can make beautiful games when they aren’t being restricted! And they had seriously cool ideas for the games INCLUDING FLYING IN THE GAME. Which guess where it appeared instead… Legends :/ Honestly Pokemon company did ILCA DIRTY, and it’s such a shame because of it people think ILCA is some “bad weak inexperienced” company. Seriously, it breaks my heart. There’s some reviews too from actual employees of gamefreak and Pokemon company that are AWFUL online. It’s totally wild, shows you just how bad the company is, how they don’t care about their workers and it’s all time pressure and lack of care for effort.
Currently, it's ehh (PLA hard carrying them). The only 2 good ones are Let's Go & PLA. Sad to see gen 9 not having consistent performance. Gamefreak should do like some 3d games, while also do a 2D-HD game, like Octopath Traveler; they would make hella $$ fr

8:07 The problem is that the majority of people who buy and play Pokemon games are either young or are casual fans. These people do not care about the problems that are in the mainline games. It doesn't help that the Pokemon company makes most of their money from their anime, merch and their card game, not their video games. So why should the Pokemon Company care if their games are of poor quality?
Indeed. However, if this continues eventually even the casuals could get fatigue. Not all empires last forever, its just really a question how long but for me I kind of moved on from Pokemon for other monster taming games so its more a outsider view.

The reason One Piece Odyssey turned out so well besides, no enforced restrictions like with BDSP, is because they worked on Odyssey for over five years. In contrast BDSP got what a year and half at most? Illca actually helped with other well known games too like the Yakuza games too. The difference is whether or not they allowed to flourish in their work environment. Sadly since they are relative unkowns, BDSP became what they are only known for and it hurt their public image in some gamer's minds.
looking at the concept art alone makes me think ILCA had a different perspective for the gen 4 remakes.. but like GireumRed said.. people at the top wanted the gen4 remake to be "faithful" and turned it down.

Sun and Moon are slow because it takes like 2 hours to get from the first gym to the second gym thanks to the hours of annoying cutscenes in the game.

I havent bought a Pokemon game since Sun and Moon. I was pissed when the Battle Frontier didn't make it to ORAS, and Sun and Moon was a disappointment.

Can't believe there are people who consider PLA characters to be not memorable... PLA has more memorable characters than most other Pokemon games imo.
The way I’ll never forgive myself for spending money to get brilliant diamond and shining pearl only for it to be ass. Ugly art style. It had nothing from platinum, the better version of the og diamond and pearl. Easily my least fav game in the switch line up
Also, he should hop off on PLA. The game is certainly not free of its criticisms, but it feels more like he didn't like it because it wasn't a classic Pokemon game as opposed to what i it was going for. People were already heated about sword and shield, so why would anybody like Sinnoh be remodeled to fit into that game's atmosphere? Mount Coronet being turned into a wild area and the gym leaders taking on a more sports like appearance would have just made people upset.
Its unfortunate that i was too broke and busy between 2005 to 2013. So i basically played Ruby then skipped to S&S. I was hella excited to jump back in, specially after learning how deep pokemon strategies went. Boy was I disappointed to the max.

Being over 30 that has played these games for over 20 years of my life.. this seris reached its peak with the Gen 5 games.. when they went full 3D with Gen 6 is when the seris started too fall off and it only got worse with each since then.. I don't give a damn how much copies they sell.. sells do not determine how a good a game is just how sells don't determine how good a music album is.. these games are garbage now

Honestly, I believe that pretty much every 3D Pkmn (with exceptions of OrAs, PLA & SV) are mediocre to bad, & at worst, can be considered the start of "Dark Age" for Pkmn. Mostly commonly ppl feel that G6 was the beginning of the dreaded Dark Age, but if u tell me it's either G7 or the jump to Switch, I'd accept that answer too. It definitely between G6 & SwSh (the destroyer of hopes & dreams).
They’ve honestly been pretty mid since the 3DS. I thought I had just outgrown enjoying the main series games, but LA was one of my favorites ever. I really think Arceus is the only good game they’ve made since BW2. I still play them though…one day they’ll satisfy most of us again
The 3d games is when the franchise started going downhill. X and Y didn’t get the third version it deserved causing there to be many unknowns about the region and some unexplored themes/places. Starting with sun and moon, there has been a new game every year which caused the games to be rushed and lacking overall. The switch games is a whole different story as shown in the video, but for me, legends was the best switch game and was headed in the right direction for a change. But classic Game Freak takes a step forward and 10 steps backward every time

The last Pokemon game I bought was Ultra Sun. To me the franchise ends there. I did, however play SwSh (Shield specifically). I did try giving it a chance because I wanted to be able to enjoy new Pokemon games. Funny thing is, I thought dexit would be the deal breaker for me, but I did learn to live with that. What I didn't expect to be such a big deal to me was the exp share. I never used exp share, even pre-rework. I always felt I should at least throw the pokemon into the ring for it to grow, but I still defended the rework when it happened in gen 6. When I was finally forced to use it in Shield, I realised just how much I hate it. It's not because "it makes the game too easy". I couldn't care less about that. I'm perfectly happy wiping the floor with an overlevelled team along my pokemon journey. Not to mention that it's perfectly possible to balance the games around the new exp share to be harder. If you get more exp easier, just make the enemy levels higher. The reason why I hate the exp share is that it takes away control over your team's levels. It's especially noticeable when you catch a new member of the team and want them to catch up to the rest. You're forced to use it exclusively for a long-ass time because the goal (the levels of the rest of the team) will keep moving forward, even if you do catch up to it eventually. There are ways to circumvent it, like boxing the rest of the team while you grind the new member, but that just makes the game more cumbersome. That doesn't fix the problem. Also, about the "PLA has Volo." The problem is that PLA only has Volo. It's just one moment in the entire, long snore fest that is the rest of the game up to that point (again, got seduced by the prospect of "this one is actually good". So glad I didn't pay money for that, just like with Shield.). It doesn't help that the only reason Volo works is Cynthia. It's nothing special on its own. Just a randomly harder battle that comes out of nowhere.
I love gen 7 games but i agree about everything what was said. Tbh i dont care about the battle frontier imo and it didn't interest me fr since emerald.

The reason why pokemon still sells so well compared to other monster catching games, is because it has deeper gameplay mechanics. Pokemon Scarlet/Violet has things like shiny hunting, sandwich mechanics, auto battles, synchro machine Pokemon has the online with competitive, raid battles, trading and even union circle They've introduced things like regional forms, convergent evolutions and all that I haven't listed everything just the ones I can think of, and they do all this while still having a decent sized story campaign I think its easy to just look at the surface level things like graphics and animations and say "this game is bad" Tears of the kingdom has great graphics and all, but the thing that draws people to that game are the mechanics, being able to fuse weapons and all that. That's why pokemon continues to sell well despite having bad graphics and even bugs in it, because the gameplay is S tier for its genre They should just give us one big beefy pokemon game per console generation. Give us dlc and if you have to only one other game like a remake. Scarlet and violet I think are great games being held back by rushed deadlines. We don't need two generations of pokemon on one console generation
I honestly have to disagree to a certain degree. I think the main reason heavily relies on the nostalgia- as much of a cold take that is, it cannot be understated how important that aspect is. As long as the game "functions", there is no real complaints among the main consumer base. I think MANY fan games or other monster catchers just plain do either the same or an altered battle system better than pokemon (similar to what Sacred mentions in the video. Instances of Nexomon, Palworld, Cobblemon etc will constantly get absolutely shit on and I find it hard to believe it's because of imperfect gameplay loop.). They literally have many references for what gameplay the fans like, the only thing these games "fall short" (not really of their own fault, fans will usually always have a bias towards their first experience if it was a positive one) is creating marketable and memorable monsters for a younger generation- or really anyone as long as the experience STAYS with the user.
brand loyalty more like it, people have prior experiences with pokemon, most of the player base are casuals as well

Imo Sacred, I been here since RBY. Gamefreak/Pokemon company aren't going to change. Not their games release window, the "faithfulness" of any future remakes, their business practices ie (shutting down any other monster capturing/taming developer creating ANYTHING similar to pokemon, tubers or content creators who stream or play their games) nor hear out from how the community has been dunking on them since Sword & Shield and actually putting improvisation toward the departments of the mainline games where there bread & butter first came from. I literally bought a copy of Violet to see if that changed. Like the many who received the glitchfest of those games at launch, I was wrong (I did have mine crash one time but after that, it was fine). I'm done with the franchise tbh. I just stick with the regions I love (Johto, Kalos, and Hoenn) and any rom hacks (Pokemon Crystal Clear) They pay a better service, content, and entertainment better than any of thw switch games imo. I hope other fans eventually come this conclusion too. The company has turned into a monoply (the biggest now) & the only ones who can bring them to their kness & put their actions & injustices on the back burner is ourselves. This will probably be an unpopular opinion but I think mainline pokemon should start having permanent triple battles to make the games more engaging. Having multiple groups of 3 starters outside the standard water/fire/grass typing would already improve and change A LOT. The way something like that could be implemented lore-wise is having that specific region’s gimmick being triple battles. This could make strategy more prevalent and get rid of the boring click super effective move and win IF they do it right. A lot of useless moves outside of double battles would become useful. Other monster collecting turn based rpgs have done this for years so pokemon should at least try it too but who knows 🤷🏾♂️
I enjoyed triple battles in gen 5/6 because it was like doubles but had to have an extra layer of strategy. Plus it was 6v6. But doubles should remain the standard for vgc
...Or maybe just play actually *good* turn-based RPGs (ones that especially don't have random encounters) like Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling and Chrono Trigger.
LGPE was good. No abilities or Sevii Island was rough. SWSH before the dlc was really awful. DLC redeemed things a bit. BDSP was also really awful. PLA was the best game since B2W2. SV was really great but it has vanilla Fallout NV level of jank.

For me Swsh was mid Let’s go had amazing graphics but that’s it Pla was alright but very monotonous z Bdsp. Was lazy but eh I still played it Sv. Was I’d say a 5.5/6. The graphics and frames were awful but the game itself was fun to play.

sword and shield was fine aside from the raid adventures, everything else is not. I am visually impaired and have been practically my entire life and although Nintendo has never tried to make their games or systems blind friendly in anyway as opposed to Sony and Microsoft with the PlayStation and Xbox respectively, following the game I mentioned earlier, their games have been unplayable for someone who is blind or visually impaired, the overworld encounter method makes the games completely inaccessible, I am unable to even catch Pokémon because of the most recent mechanic. Everybody said legends was a great game, but for someone like myself I was unable to even try it. Nintendo and Pokémon have a lot of work to do.
I absolutely loved Legends Arceus. I like Scarlet and Violet, it definitely has its share of technical issues but overall I had fun with it. I couldn’t care for Sword and Shield. Let’s Go I thought looked great but I wasn’t a fan of the catching mechanics. BDSP I was incredibly disappointed by.
Yeah I'm the kind of trainer to only catch one of each. Let's Go was wild to me lmao. Still my favorite out of all the Switch games.

Pre sv dlc I would’ve been gushing about how this series is back and that gamefreak knows what they’re doing now After they released the dlc and kinda stripped most of sv’s good qualities because what I assume deadlines, I don’t think the future is all that bright for the mainline games. (Barring the legends games if they decide to return to that)

Also keep in mind that he’s a KZheadr and he has to play all of the games and give reviews on them so he can put food on the table and that’s why he keeps buying the games even though he is cynical about the franchise. To the average consumer yes you’re right why bother buying the product if the company has a history of disappointing its fans

Legends arceus is argubly one of the best games they ever made
The reason that Pokemon and by extension other pieces of Japanese media Toei's One Piece anime are sometimes looking pretty cheap is largely because of Japanese capitalism and the office politics that go along with it. When there's such high demand for a product, things are cranked up to eleven to ensure that content for whatever that multimedia project is released daily.
I'd like to say that I myself didn't get into Pokemon games until I got Y, after that I got Sun, then Ultra Sun, and since then I've never touched another mainline Pokemon game since. Unless you count Go, but even then that was short lived. I don't consider myself a true fan due to starting out with Y. From what others told me, if I was to start with Black, White, or Diamond or Pearl, I would feel the way they did. I do for some games like Ubisofts AC series, Far Cry series, Gears of War series, but not for Pokemon. Thankfully I haven't gotten that deep in it. I was more of a Digimon fan than Pokemon and that's strictly talking about the show.
This is not Nintendo, this is pressure from the Pokémon Company. Nintendo has much better quality console, the Wii/DS era Mario games werent bad they were just bland and boring with nothing new. But performance wise they were at good quality. With Pokémon they have prioritized the merch over the source material and its obvious now based on recent releases.

People really thought the 3ds was Mario and especially Pokémon’s dark age?! Game freak wasn’t cheap and lazy back then and gen 6 in 2013 was praised by fans but 5 years later, they’re bad now for lame reasons. Say as you will but 3ds era games weren’t buggy and ugly looking games and felt on par with every other 1st 3ds game and they were $40 per version not $60! Don’t get me started with Mario’s bland era. Mario may be more interesting in the switch era, but the doesn’t mean Mario sucked on 3ds

It was good till Pokemon Scarlet & Violet came out. The console itself is really dope, but the games is like a going down a bad trajectory. Like dude said the DLC is just more scarlet and violet and not memorable. Probably cause this game was rushed because of the TCG, merch, etc. if they see the criticisms of the games by the fans and no make a lackluster game for Gen 10. But only time will tell
Imma be real, with time I've completely reversed my take on the lets go games, still don't like the catch mechanics, but exclding PLA, Lets go Pika and Eevee are the most complete, innovative, and have the best performance and graphics of the main pokemon games. Pokemon Snap is not average pokemon fans cup of tea probably but graphically its great and actually delivered on what it was supposed to be. though wasn't really a fan of the whole giant pokemon thing being the gimmick. but I'm done with pokemon far as the games they make, they're trash they're not gonna get better, they're only good for the mods you can make of them. The games are just vehicles for competitive play and pushing home subscriptions at this point, money not substance or quality. also Sun and moon is good for the innovation it added and the few good fights, but hot garbage for the pacing, base game writing, being the start of the the excessive hand holding in pokemon, (maybe you can say x and y, but it was still really bad here) and the cutscene hell. I wasn't gonna talk about pla but feel i have to now, PLA is the best of the pokemon switch games, not because of the great writing and execution of the final scene, its because its the most cohesive and immersive experience overall, and best exemplifies the potential of what we wanted in a pokemon game. on top of all the amazing qol it added to the game, that just was thrown away in the games that came after. it wasn't perfect it wasn't without issues, but it was still better than everything else (pokemon) by a noticeable margin, in just about every category.

To your point regarding what kids are playing nowadays: thats also what rubs me the wrong way with scarlet and violet. Yes, I was a kid when I got into Pokemon, but me and almost anyone I know who likes pokemon is an adult now ( though I get it for LGPE). Like, atleast make the characters teens as in BW2? I dont mind a quirky vision or idea for a game but having the protagonist be a literal child is just too much of a disconnect for me. (Along with all the other issues with the games nowadays of course, I haven't bought a game since sun/moon). Maybe in Japan their target audience for the games are still mostly kids, but I cant help but feel that most people into pokemon got into it when they were young and as the guy in the video said- became lifelong pokemon fans. Pokemon is way too successfull now and while I'll give a look at new games they are premiering, I wont buy them unless Im convinced and rather stick to roms/fangames or hell, make my own.

In my opinion when pokemon started moving away from 2d sprite I just knew pokemon ain't improve for example . In classic pokemon platinum you can tell gender different from how male and female pokemon had either slightly different color or markings . And sometimes the different games would have different art style like diamond pokemon look friendly and pearl they look battle ready. And it's sad af that's pokemon best games is spin off games for example I rather have a hd remaster of Pokemon ranger or battle revolution or dlc for Pokemon snap 2 or legend arcuss dlc. Instead of a main series game because spin off can be made by better company , I always say bandaid namco should buy right to pokemon games because they kill it with all digimon games and they did amazing on pokemon snap 2 making them feel like animals. My favorite one on Switch is Let's Go. It wasn't groundbreaking, but at least it wasn't a lazy 3D implementation. I don't think the Pokemon Company is capable of publishing a quality 3D game, and 2D maps are already amazing for Pokemon. There's a lot of potential shown from Arceus, but there's no way that potential can be realised without a reasonable development schedule. The back to back releases make quality an unrealistic expectation. But I'm hopeful that something could change and we could get lucky with a new game as good as Ruby/Sapphire.
