    • Honestly, it's pretty forward thinking from whoever owns rights to the show. I'm 100% certain there are people here who catch a few clips of the show here, then decide to go back for a few full episodes or a binge. Doing so not only keeps the show relevant, but also provides views to whatever streaming platform happens to hold the rights making it easier to negotiate a higher cost for the streaming rights. It's genius and more shows should follow suit.

The father actually tried to resist a little even when extremely drunk, but not enough. The girl is the actual abuser here, not the father. Also the girl is actually a boy, but no one's aware of it yet. He can't produce testosterone, resulting in pure estrogen and overly feminine features.

When amputee has constant nerve pain and placing a whole limb in a mirroed box to visual both limbs on both size and getting the patient to clench and uncluch the limb on the good side visually tells the brain that the amputated limb is also flexing and then finally relaxing removes the pain instantly. When someone born with half a brain that is missing the parts that control speech and motor functions shouldn't even be able to live in nothing but a vegetated state has a normal life with nothing more that a slured speech and a gated walk is nothing less that miraculas how the brain can be fooled and also rewire itself completely.

    @Wither_Strike@Wither_Strike Жыл бұрын
    • *if* i remember correctly, he’s actually proving that the symptom is psychosomatic, for exactly the reason you described - she can see him start/stop the IV, so she thinks something in her body is changing, so she starts/stops twitching in response.

    • yes! IV drugs work almost instantly, sometimes even before you finish pushing it through. it wouldn't be quite as instantaneous with IVIg, but that's just shortened for television lol. the IVIg proved she had cancer, but it was testicular cancer. she was born intersex and immune to testosterone, so instead of ovaries she had underdeveloped testicles. testes hang outside of the body for a reason; undescended testicles pretty much always turn cancerous because they're not meant to grow and function at body temp

      @londonm3161@londonm3161 Жыл бұрын
    • @Wither_Strike @Sky Lowell Yes, It should take a lot long than that to take effect. depending on the drug, it can take anywhere from under a minute (like morphine) to half an hour or more (like IV paracetamol and antibiotics) to take noticible effect. Either way, it wouldn't be instant. The theory of the twitching stopping due to psychosomatic reasons WAS explored, but after giving her a placebo, the twitching resumed, confirming it was physical. Basically, the writers took a bit of artistic liberty with the speed of the medicine for a bit of added drama and to pad out the episode while they checked with the placebo.

      @SoulDragonWithFlow@SoulDragonWithFlow11 ай бұрын
    • It honestly depends on the medicine. I remember when I went in to have my wisdom teeth removed, and the dentist told me “Once we start the anesthesia, you’ll feel a slight burning sensation, but only for a few seconds”. And the IV was in my hand so I figured ok, no big deal. They started the anesthesia, and I’d say within 1 or 2 seconds, I felt the burning sensation, but in my groin, which made me jolt pretty hard because I wasn’t expecting it. But the doc was right, it only lasted I think 2 or 3 seconds, and then I started to go unconscious, which also only took between 5-7 seconds. But other medications, like different kinds of painkillers, antibiotics, or even IV antipsychotics, can take quite a bit longer to take effect. It depends on a lot of factors, including the amount of medication, the size of the patient, the patient’s blood pressure and heart-rate, and what the medication is targeting/treating.

    • Imagine your average medical drama except it does some actual research, too. Of course, some tropes have to play out for dramatic reasons (like defibbing a flatline patient; that does nothing. The point of a defib is to stop a fucked up rhythm, there is no "start" to it), but it leans more to realism than drama most of the time.
