On part three of our trip to Audi HQ in Ingolstadt, Germany, I get to try my hand at two more insane Audi race cars. First up, we pull Hans Stuck's championship winning DTM car from the stable at Audi Tradition and let its 11,5000 rpm v8 scream. Then We head back to Audi's test track in Neuburg to drive the e-tron Vision GT, a car first built digitally for the game Gran Turismo and then created in real life by the engineers at Audi.

I’m glad they’re letting him bring out such amazing cars. It’s better they’re showing these historic cars instead of locking them away from the public to never be driven in such a way again. It’s good publicity for both audi and ken.

The look in Ken's eyes when he drove the Etron vision GT shows how much of a handlful that car is. He had a look of concern that I've never seen before and he was just driving fast on a track, not even sliding sideways. He looked like a person handling a deadly venomous snake who recognizes this will take his full concentration to not become a disaster.
These cars have such a strong downforce, that it's probably not even possible to drift them like he is used to.
@@afa1515 Downforce only works if you are at a speed capable of producing it. With that much power on tap instantly through electric motors all drifting would take is a proper approach speed. Id think the throttle input tuning and torque curve would need to be adjusted to his liking so he's comfortable with input and the motors are giving him a useful amount of power to control the drift. These things have less of a torque curve than they have a modifiable torque program.
O yeah as soon as they cut to his face before the 1st turn you can see the concern in his face as he approaches the corner. He says after too it either is gonna stay on the line or you are going straight LOl

@@s.willis8426 think a sequential gear box could help that. I felt like maybe all wheel steering would help with corners? An unfortunately seems i was disappointed he couldnt drift it wonder why tho.
It's easy to see why Ken is so successful, not only as an amazing wheelman, but also as a spokesperson to represent a brand. He comes off as genuine, likeable and enthusiastic.

These Hoonigan guys are so passionate and loving of automobiles and their history, it shines through in how much fun they have with each other doing this kind of insane stuff. Super entertaining 👏

Its probably going to be a hybrid rally car for WRC since their going hybrid/electric and ken wants to return back to WRC strong but audi also said in 2018 that they were jumping ship on WRC and wouldn't be focusing on making a electric rally car and instead in focusing on Formula E and DTM. Then they signed Ken so maybe they'll compromise for a hybrid WRC car or he might even go into DTM or some other form of GT racing. The next steps shall be interesting...
I love how Kens like "I can drift it right?l" and the German guys is screaming "Nein Nein Nein Nein" internally but doesn't know what to say 😂

the torsen differentials CAN take a beating but they were deffinetly not engineered to do that😂
That e-tron GT sounds like a jet engine... Coolest thing about these trips and videos is all the secret collections the manufacturers have hidden away that no one ever see's or even knew about
That 1990 V8 sound was amazing . I wish I could have experienced that series. It sounds like nothing else today.

Electric car races will need biohazard crews when battery spills from accidents inevitably someone will crash at 180 mph or 200 and smash the battery fluid all over everywhere hopefully not into people's faces
I'm a race fan but I support the electric cars but they're unchartered territory that might be hazardous to spectators keep spectators far from the track on tracks that go above 170mph

Watching him carry the power over through that turn at 6:19 was just incredible. There is an amazing mini documentary about Audi called "secrets of speed: the unfair advantage" it's an older video but man I get shivers Everytime I watch that little film. Groundbreaking vehicles, and amazing driver's behind the wheel of these cars.
That 11.5k RPM V8 sounds so nice it gave me teary eyes .. i Could lay in bed and listen to that for hours

I've ran from cops and had more speeding tickets than I care to say. Rode the fastest street bike white lining it for miles. Be there done that. I want a quiet car that can fly... if I decide to smash that pedal. You wouldn't understand

I saw the Group B era, live in the woods, and the use of those cars in Rally-Cross when Group B was cancelled.

I have been an Audi enthusiast my whole life, i just love the old models! Ive own a 80 cab, 100 turboquattro C3, Audi S4 and S6 C4 and will own alot more of them oldies, nothing beats the 5cyl sound

My two takeaways after this 3 part series. 1: Audi snatched Ken up for the purpose of showing they fully intend on baking in fun and potential madness into the electric cars and he'll be used to help showcase to what extremes. 2: When I eventually have an electric car, first mod will be to get rid of whatever sound deadening is around the drive train to get the electric race car loud gear whine. Maybe gear whine will be the new "loud exhaust".
Swap the helical gears for straight cut and become the whistle tips go whoo whoo you want to see in the world
dude after the lame Ford videos (where they wouldn't let him do cool stuff in their electric cars), your first point makes Audi seem like a much better match for Ken when you compare their current/soon-to-be-available vehicles. Ford literally built a 1000+hp race model of the 'Mustang' Mach-E & were still lame, while Audi over here is letting Ken drift one of their actual production Electric car in circles around one of their many iconic & priceless historic race cars.
I've always appreciated a good exhaust note and there's nothing else like it, but there's something compelling about pushing an EV hard and getting that electronic whine. The sound is subtle, but my brain equates it to the ridiculous torque and pure joy of accelerating hard in my Tesla.
@@platniumdr Yeah I love the electric whine, to me its kinda like a loud supercharger. There is several cars that you can't even hear the exhaust because the supercharger whine is so loud and its awesome.

That Vision E-tron is one of the best in cornering in gt. I can't imagine if they managed to emulate its performance in real life.
I'm from europe but i can imagine how much marketing value Audi gains in the USA market just for inviting hoonigan & ken block to check the audi racing legends and testing them on camera. In this deal every1 wins, right? Viewers, hoonigan, Ken and Audi themselfs. Great to watch 👍🏻😎

Yea, I’d love to see the B5 touring car from the BTCC. It dominated 1996 with its Quattro system. Absolutely love that car.
So good to see someone showing off the classic Audis. I had a 20v 5cyl quattro, they are such fun cars and the old Audis just aren't seen much now.
Love the 'Crocodile' painted R8 Le Mans car in the background. That thing won the race in Adelaide, Australia in the year 2000.
All of these cars that have sat in this museum for the last decade or more, are finally like WERE FREEEEEE. Gosh its fun to see these old cars live again and just scream.
The Walter Roehrl Quattro & the Hans-Joachim Stuck V8 are two of the most legendary german racing cars you can possibly drive.

I personally was never a fan of Audi, but after watching how they let Ken block drive their museum pieces of auto memorabilia gave me a lot of respect for Audi.
