Ken Block Teaches His 13-Year-Old Daughter To Do Donuts... in the Gymkhana Ford Escort!
It’s pretty crazy how fast things are changing day to day here in Utah. One week ago my family and I built a mini-Gymkhana GRiD practice course inside my Hoonigan Racing workshop ( • Gymkhana Grid: Stay At... ), and this week my daughter Lia and I are at an actual race track with an entire paddock to ourselves.
With my ’78 Ford Escort Mk2 RS in tow, and an eager 13-year-old showing more interest in the finer art of HOONING, I thought that this would be the perfect opportunity to take advantage of the limited re-opening of UMC (Utah Motorsports Campus) for a day of GYM-Class, teaching Lia proper technique for doing donuts!
And even though the RWD Gymkhana Escort may be one of the “easier” cars in my fleet to drive - she quickly learns that it’s not as easy as it looks - and you’ll have to watch the full episode to see how she does on her first time out!

I just hope she’s okay and has some peace of mind and really good memories of her father. When I heard the news this was the first video I thought of. This video just puts the biggest smile on my face. Don’t worry Ken, after watching this and seeing the spark in her eye, I can promise you that your legacy will live on. RIP
She knows her dad went on his own terms. She will likely carry the Hoonigan torch now in her dad's honor.
@@MrHurricaneFloyd probably still devastated though
She raced at cleetus mcfarlands race event yesterday and cleetus did a huge 300 drone tribute for her dad at the end of the race , it’s on KZhead and a beautiful emotional tribute. Seeing her get out there and actually racing in an event shows such strength and her determination in taking on the Hoonigan brand,..I’m SO happy for her that she and Ken have been driving together and getting her into the Hoonigan drag races etc since 13 years old. Ken apparently gave her the Hoonicorn and that’s why she’s been driving it in the this verses that “ episodes. She’ll take it on and over and I believe this will be SO good for her in staying close to her dad in spirit . I think she’s going to be a legendaryWRC driver, she’s already KILLING it in the rally events she’s done . They live up the canyon from me and man they’re in our prayers and Lens so massively missed . I know people posting comments like yours really help them. Rest in peace Ken, love you Lea! 💜
A) This is parenting done right. Explain, encourage, let them struggle, encourage some more, celebrate the near victories, celebrate the big victories, remind them of progress. B) I think the world will miss Ken Block. RIP dude.

Easy to do when someone else is paying for the clutch, transmission and tires. My father and everyone else's here would fucking hang me like a pig if I overclutched and/or stalled like that. We don't got sponsorships in real life you see.
Peter D I bet you ken would have the same attitude if he paid for everything
Actually I never liked the guys but after this video I now have great respect for him. Not for his driving skills but for his father skills. Amazing work!
Imho, it heavily depends on the "hobby". When you're get used doing hard stuff that costs tons of money and effort to practice only, not talking about repairs and upgrades - well, it teaches you a lot. Being humble, being focused, grind this thing everyday really hard, understand how things work and what processes are going on... and if you're beginner, you wait until spare parts come up when you mess up your gear, count your money and days until next purchase, etc. And when you are decades in this, and even managed to earn some fame and money doing your thing on top of that - welp, you're sure thing know shit about it. You know how hard it can be, and how much sweat and tears are left behind to get here. You sure will be easy on someone new, taking first steps, and will try to support him/her/them, knowing that he/she/they really gonna need that support, especially in the begining.
I was this comments 200th like!!!
I had to come back to this one after hearing that Ken died. Watching him burn rubber inspired me as a hot rodder, but watching him spend time with his daughter, teaching her how to drive (not just drive but really drive) inspired me to be the same kind of father for my kids. Ken was larger than life, his legacy is immense & he will be missed. Much respect.

I drove 2 days and on the third he told me to drive outside the city to a village and in a busy street (I had my learner's license). And that's it. I mean, the ground was sandy with rocks and stuff, it was Tata Indigo 1.2 L Diesel Car and not a Monster rally car from 1980s, we weren't doing drifting or donuts, but still I feel nostalgic. Love you, Dad. I'll be driving with him next week for this exam I'm taking some 400 kms from my city. Anyways, thanks for this video. Made my day...
Imagine the driver's ED instructor giving the test her lol....Whos your dad?....Ken Block...oh heres your license haha
That's kinda like how my uncle got his truck licence. He was what one may call a 'wild' youngster who has issues with some of the local traffic police (back then regular 'Police' didn't deal with traffic but there was a parallel 'Traffic Police' enforcement body. My grandfather had a large sheep station and my uncle would drive the stock trucks, with trailers, into town for sale, and one of the local traffic cops would pull him in regularely and give the truck a thorough going over to try and ticket my uncle. After a couple of years of this my uncle turned 18 and went in to get his heavy licence and for the practical road test he got the same officer - who took one look at him and said something along the lines of 'You b*****d, I never thought of checking your licence - well, I guess you can drive, here's your licence'. When I got mine, there were a bunch of us from work going through - I'd driven a truck once on the road (often in the yard while working on them, though) and never with a trailer and I had to, literally, drive round the block while the officer filled the pass form out. For some of the 'special' licences, it was driving a cable layer from where it was parked, across the yard, and back into the park spot again. Easiest licences I ever got!

@@jhondiick4202 NZ in the fifies for him, seventies for me - to quote L.P. Hartley, “The past is a foreign country; they do things differently there.”.
Imagine going for your driver's test and your instructor just says: who's your daddy?
@@gordowg1wg145 yeah NZ genuinely was like that, I know of a few similar examples. Definitely nothing like that here these days though, PC gone mad here now
Day 1: Learn how to drive a H pattern stick shift. Day 4: Learn how to do donut with a sequential gear box. Tony Stark: Sometimes you gotta run before you can walk.

@@tylerworks3158 she needs to get in the hoonicorn

@@k3mo2992 I expected her to answer "what's next?" with "drive your Hoonicorn." I really wanted to see his reaction...then a bunch of Hoonigan guys edited in with disappoint.
Well done to both of you. This was really good to watch. She's very lucky to have a great teacher. Everyone has different opportunities. I was lucky growing up on a farm, I gave respect and was given trust. At thirteen I'd been driving for years and was allowed to drive on the road. Many years ago now.
The best feeling, when you're trying and trying, sometimes getting nervous and then this moment when u got it and makes you happy!!
Admit it, we all want ken to adopt us.
I want him to teach us how too drift around that cone like that too.
Whahah, you were reading my mind
i want those toys lol i mean i got quads but god damn ken is like here ya go drive my 600hp car :) LOL
ken block seems like a cool dad, not cos he's just teaching his daughter how to drift or donut but he's such a great supportive teacher.
yeah, the kind of dad to be supportive in anything his kids do.
If my dad randomly took me out to do fucking donuts in a 400 horsepower ford escort I’d be pumped af
