A friend showed me the Red Wedding as a joke once (without me having any clue who the characters were) and it's actually what got me into Game of Thrones but in hindsight it was kind of a d*ck move on his part because that entire sequence is insane if you don't know what's about to happen. So, I'd say Max's anger and pettiness over it is definitely warranted.

I think it's more of expiration by popularity rather than release date. I'd be more likely to get upset over being spoiled for a random greek story than Harry Potter, because the assumption is that it's so popular, anyone who hasn't seen it doesn't want to ever see it.

I think that once something becomes a meme, it's not a spoiler anymore - so the Trojan Horse for sure isn't a spoiler because that has made it into sayings in multiple languages and has extended meanings that go way past the original story, I'd say the 'I'm your father' one is meme-y enough to not be a spoiler anymore, but not too sure about Harry Potter as there's not many specific instances from those stories that are a wide-spread, multi-generational meme (which I judge by me not knowing any :P). The red wedding from GOT might get meme-ified at some point but it seems more likely that the wide-spread GOT related concept is a more general 'everyone dies' 😅

To be fair, spoilers are all around the internet after the episode is released but already after a good couple weeks, unless someone specifically mentions it to you or you look it up, you're probably safe. I had a friend spoil one of the important deaths in How to Get Away With Murder by accident, for example, and it had aired a while back, but unless you're that unlucky, you're usually fine

In my teens i got into the anime phase and started watching Death Note (as it is tradition). Friend of mine smiled at me with exitement and asked "are you at the point already where .... dies?" She gets 10 min of hate every time we meet. It has bin 10 years. I will never forget.

A friend showed me the Red Wedding as a joke once (without me having any clue who the characters were) and it's actually what got me into Game of Thrones but in hindsight it was kind of a d*ck move on his part because that entire sequence is insane if you don't know what's about to happen. So, I'd say Max's anger and pettiness over it is definitely warranted.
@@buisbo1240I’d say up until then, it’s definitely one of the best scenes but seasons 4, 5, and 6 each have their own spectacular moments, some of which I’d say are even better. Happy watching :)

No this is totally true and apparently the friend he was getting back at was a notorious violent drunkard and didn't take it so well so he ended up killing him after pushing him into a counter top. Left a kid and two wives behind, very sad

Great video. That leaves the question of when a spoiler stops being a spoiler... is Darth Vader being Lukes father still a spoiler? What about Romeo and Juliette dying, or the Trojan Horse being filled with enemy soldiers? Do spoilers have an expiry date?
I think it's more of expiration by popularity rather than release date. I'd be more likely to get upset over being spoiled for a random greek story than Harry Potter, because the assumption is that it's so popular, anyone who hasn't seen it doesn't want to ever see it.
I think that once something becomes a meme, it's not a spoiler anymore - so the Trojan Horse for sure isn't a spoiler because that has made it into sayings in multiple languages and has extended meanings that go way past the original story, I'd say the 'I'm your father' one is meme-y enough to not be a spoiler anymore, but not too sure about Harry Potter as there's not many specific instances from those stories that are a wide-spread, multi-generational meme (which I judge by me not knowing any :P). The red wedding from GOT might get meme-ified at some point but it seems more likely that the wide-spread GOT related concept is a more general 'everyone dies' 😅

How in the world have you avoided spoilers for an episode that aired almost 10 years ago???
To be fair, spoilers are all around the internet after the episode is released but already after a good couple weeks, unless someone specifically mentions it to you or you look it up, you're probably safe. I had a friend spoil one of the important deaths in How to Get Away With Murder by accident, for example, and it had aired a while back, but unless you're that unlucky, you're usually fine
