This was absolutely heartbreaking to watch

It finally happened. After years of instability, bankruptcy, ownership changes, and constant rumours, the Arizona Coyotes played their final game in Arizona. While some will say hockey doesn’t belong in the desert, ironically this game came on the same night the best goal scorer in the world right now chased down 70. Arguably, Arizona native Auston Matthews may never have played hockey if not for "hockey in the Desert". It’s such a shame this ownership group couldn’t get it right and now great people, fans and a community have to watch on hopelessly as they lose their NHL team. A young team that holds a lot of a promise. The Coyotes absolutely came to play facing off against the Edmonton Oilers. They brought energy and plenty of goals but as a whole, it was just heartbreaking to watch. Salt Lake Sucks chants broke out and as the fans gave their final salut to the fans, there wasn't a dry eye in the arena. I'm just glad fans got to say their goodbyes. With all that said, enjoy as I cover what was the last NHL game played in Mullet Arena!

  • The best part was the shirts-off-backs ceremony where they took their jerseys off, signed them, and gave them to fans. They were on the ice for a good 45 minutes after the game ended. The gave out their sticks, went to the back room to give out their backup sticks, signed hats and pucks and tossed them into the croud. Logan Cooley even tried to give away his helmet. Afterward they pulled out the mats and opened the zamboni doors so fans could go on the ice and meet the players. All that, plus a 5-2 win, what a perfect send off

Lo and behold, when all the rumors started the team went on a 14 game losing streak. Seems like the players probably had a bit of insight on what was going on and that really affected their game. • For those that say Hockey doesn't belong in the desert. I would say that Southern California before, irrigation, was pretty deserty, 3 Stanley Cups. Las Vegas is most definitely desert, 1 Cup so far. Dallas, while not as deserty, is pretty far from 'traditional' hockey towns, 1 Cup. Tampa Bay is just about as far south from 'traditional' hockey towns as you could get and still be in the North American continent. Surely hockey shouldn't be played there, oh, that right 3 Cups. The Wife and I were at the very first Coyotes home game, picked up first season sweaters (in white for the White Outs) and have been partial season ticket holder for a lot of years. Partial only because Glendale is just too far for us to drive for every game... We will be missing this team but hold out hope for an expansion team. This is just too large a market not to have an NHL team.

In my opinion Hockey belongs in the desert. You can't change my mind for that. The owner should not have sold the Yotes. Especially that they were going to be trying to get the land on the 27th of June. Yet, he decided to sell them even though they were trying to keep them in AZ.

  • Man this sucks. Like even knowing this change was happening I kept thinking "man it's really gotta suck for the players having to move their home town" it didn't even occur to me that it's so much more than the players and the team. The announcers, the thousands of people that worked around the team and for the fans this has gotta be awful to lose your only team, it's not like they're going to be getting a new team anytime soon. I've lived in Ontario, Canada my entire life and while I don't particularly care for either of our teams I have never had to worry about not being able to watch high quality hockey my entire life even if the Leafs and the Sens left the province I still have the entire OHL that I could watch. I mean hell I live in a small city and even we have a PJHL team that isn't half bad. This has gotta suck as a hockey fan out in Arizona.
