Donald Trump has been fined $9,000 for violating the court’s gag order imposed to stop him attacking jurors and potential witnesses in his hush-money trial.
Judge Merchan ruled against Trump on 9 out of 10 contempt charges and imposed a financial penalty of $1,000 (£799) per violation.
The Judge added that if Mr Trump continues to flout the court’s prohibitions on attacking witnesses, potential witnesses, jurors, and court staff - he could face time in jail.
In his trial, Trump is accused of trying to cover up a $130,000 (£104,500) payment to porn star Stormy Daniels before he won the 2016 election, which prosecutors say was election interference

However, everyone agrees potential federal cases on his role in Jan 6th and the classified documents case adjudicate much more grave constitutional questions.

This has got me thinking. If a police officer goes to prison, they go on the numbers with the nonces and the grasses for their own protection. But what would be the case with a former president?

No, the secret service are making plans for this currently. In the short term he'd likely be kept in the court's holding cell. He will keep his secret service protection in prison which will mean likely putting him on his own somewhere either in an unused wing of a prison or a temporary building on prison grounds. Depending on which crime he's convicted for the judge may end up deciding it's too expensive to jail him and give him house arrest instead.

The fine constitutes a breach of the bail conditions set in some of his other pending court cases, theoretically he could be jailed now.
Hopefully, it’s part of an escalation process that provides a path to jail. Obviously, he’s got the emotional control of a hungry toddler, so he will continue to do it.
