When you had pictures of a caterpillar, a butterfly, and a moth all lined up in that order, then said "I'm going to rank each of their life stages separately," I briefly had the horrified thought of "oh god no, does he think that the moth is the third life stage of a butterfly??" @StephanieAwesom@StephanieAwesom7 ай бұрын
    • I disagree, 'bug' is a colloquial term not a scientific one, it's not strictly defined and is instead much looser in definition. Saying that 'slaters (roly-polies) aren't bugs because they're isopods' is like saying that 'tomatoes aren't vegetables because they're fruit'. They're both, as these terms ate not mutually exclusive.

  • great video! I love to see the many ways which us humans have invented to cope with our fears. I do however hate to inform you that the word "bug" actually only refers to a specific group of insects that posses a tounge-like proboscis and some other stuff. If you're looking for a word to describe all the animals on this list It is actually quite difficult as it includes not only arthropods (insects arachnids and crustaceans) but mollusks (slugs and snails) and annelids (earthworms). The best descriptor to include all those phylums might be "protostomic coelomates" as they posses both protostome development and a true body cavity (coelom) as unifying characteristics. I also would note that the bonus bugs being crustaceans is ironic considering that crustaceans are more closely related to true insects than annelids and mollusks. 🤓🤓🤓

But if it’s dead, I can’t get near it without feeling dread. Same with crabs and lobsters and shit (which are basically sea bugs, all arthropods) Edit: I had not finished the video when I commented this, and was not aware you had acknowledged lobsters and crabs and shrimp on your list
