Good video. Jock explains everything very nicely without going into too many unnecessary or vehicle/model specific details. I wouldn't mind more of these videos for other things related to building an "average" rig (i.e. something like this Hilux that most of us will probably be looking into, not a rock climbing monster or a $200k custom built super tourer). I also like the way you are approaching this series as a step-by-step build in little (affordable) bites while still being able to use the car in between, instead of parking it in a garage for 6 months to work on it until it's done or doing a complete fitment of a whole bunch of stuff at the same time. This way is much more budget and free time friendly, doing what you can when you can. This is how I approached building up my own UTE - from stock to fully kitted out in 2-3 years, it gives you time to test new additions and the impact they have as well as the time to consider your next steps and the order of priority for future upgrades.
This video is infinitely helpful for blokes like myself! Really appreciate this series! Great video Jock!
Pro-tip the shops don't want you to know; you can get an extra 2" lift just by inflating 33" tires to 175 psi, which basically makes them a 35".
Good way to die
Some knob will try this 😮
@@paulcanning4702 Ive tried it, it works
Works as described, props! You can also go for 190 psi for 37s.
thnk u 4 tip i not hav tool so will do at fuel shop
That brake proportioning valve bit is very useful!! It wasn’t done to my Ute after a lift!! Thanks jocko 👍
Doing on the ground like most of the average DIYers what a legen jock! best thing ive heard
Tough Dog also mention not to fully tighten the front lower shock bolts until the car is on the ground or it will twist the bushing and eventually break away.
100% mate the suspension must be loaded when you tighten the bolt that goes through the bush
Loving the N70 hilux project jock! I just done a 2” lift on my 2012 N70 and she is driving mint👌 Keep up the amazing show fellas 👍🍻
Fantastic tutorial Jock. I always learn something watching you. When I win lotto and get a new 4wdrive I will come and see you.
Top video jock mate ... soon to be moving to WA and will use your videos for my build ..top man keep them coming
Great tutorial Jocko, simple step by step, no um and err or going back and forward, I think I can do a suspension change myself…
Great video Jocko very helpful
Sweet, no BS, well done.
Lol putting in my lift kit this weekend orderd last Friday love the videos like u guys follow my life and give videos when I needed it last one was the raptor video that was released 2 days before I did tray/bullbar
Bloody brilliant. Cheers buddy 👍🏻
I would also suggest renewing the 4 U bolts when renewing the rear leaf springs
Awesome video. Thanks mate!
Great video man!
Gonna be doing this for the first time this summer on my Taco. Thanks for the video!
how did it go? i'm looking to do this this summer.
Great informative video Jocko. Glad you didn't use the hoist as it made it 'realistic' for the average bloke, and I like that you are taking us step by step through your upgrades.... lets us know we can if we try. Well done mate.
also, if it doesnt require locktight, a little antisieze can save you stress in future. especially where mud and beach sand may reach/rest.
That front tyre is dodgy as mate! Lol thanks for talking about adjusting the brake valve too. I lowered my 89 Hiace with blocks many years ago and had the similar but opposite problem. She shuddered and shook under brakes and locked up VERY easily! Turned out the load valve thought there was too much weight on the back, because of the lowering and it had 11 inch drums on the back. 2 inches worth of travel on that vehicle was equal to over half a tonne of load. Remounted the non adjustable lever and was good as gold again. Was pretty scary coming down the mountains with a tail happy van!
Thanks for the diy video❤
Great setup. I would have changed out the bump stops as well. It helps when bottoming out.
Love the vids
so good helped alot😃😃
Good tips mate,,,good vid's 💪💯💪
Great job Jocko what do you think about airbags as well
Been waiting!
After watching this I'm feeling really confident... Am I deluding myself? lol
Putting a lift on my WJ this weekend so this will help! Edit; Never mind, this is IFS and leaf rears haha
Great video…thankyou .
Is it necessary to get diffrent control arms when upgrading suspension to a 2 inch lift?
You probably should have covered spring rates on the front too, going too heavy can really ruin the ride. There's also a trap there for people that buy the proper engine (1GR) because it weighs 75kg less than the diesel, but most off-the-shelf lifts are rated for the diesel because it's more common, which means most V6's are oversprung from the get-go, even more so if they get talked into using a heavy spring for barwork and winch.
Worth getting a wheel alignment after a lift too
How long till jocko SAS the n70
Verry good video i am a huge fan of you guys
Highly HIGHLY suggest anti seize where possible. Literally did this yesterday lol. Helped some friends put in new bilstein stuff like these on their tacoma (I don't know if they're the same but everything here looks exactly like theirs) and the previous owner had done some slight mods and they didn't put any anti seize on anything and there was a light bit of crust on everything and I swear every bolt was seized. Even after a day of wd40 soaking. Got it done but man. Use anti seize people!! You'll thank yourself in the future!
Hey @Jock, thanks for another great post, I only wish I'd seen these six months ago would have saved me some dollars. Cheers mate😅
Love the n70s
Nope your wrong
Hey guys! On a 2 inch lift for a Luxie is it essential to fit a front diff drop kit to compensate the cv joint length?
Bit of a queastion, looking for a new car later this year and i cant decide what type of car. i dont know if i want a wagon, or a ute. i wanna build a touring car, but have no idea which one. with the ute ill put a canopy and all the things that are needed (same with the wagon). is there any differences or perks to each one im looking out for?
omg Jocko love your videos man!! so knowledgeable!! Ive lifted my N70 and it hink this is the problem with my breaks wheni got over bumps thanks jocko!! cant wait to see more progress on the hilux's you have champion!
Cheers from good ol’ California
Who knew it was so damn easy to do this
Where have i seen that number plate before? Was it Graham's by any chance? really feel like i've seen it on his D-Max !! (and that's me going to check old videos now... 😆😆😂😂)
Hope you plan on a vid for the lockers
Was there a reason you didn’t consider parabolic springs?
What size axel stands are you using?
With leaf spring you are getting marginal benefit from adjustable shocks. The double wishbone front is different story.
Maybe get a brake proportioning bracket for the lift aswell
Can you modify nissan navara d40 ? I am just curious 😍
Does anybody know where to find torque settings for your vehicle? I’m about to do a 2 inch on my n70
Very good Jocko, you keeping your N70 as a tub or are you going to do a tray swap?
people forget that if your carrying let’s say a swag an esky and that’s about it like a majority of people, the comfort spring will be perfect there’s no point destroying your spine and ruining your comfort by having heavy duty leafs when your gonna be carrying not much at all, 100kg parabolic leafs in my n80 is perfectly comfortable and flexes not bad in the rear for a leaf sprung vehicle
Yep everyone oversprings there rigs, ride like shit with no flex, 'buts it's heavy dooty BRO'
i had to buy a bracket for my gq patrol to improve the rear brakes.
Hilux vigo 🔥
Where's the bump stop for the top control arm?
Can you guys assist me with a lift kit for my d5 Delica?
Luv it, luv hiluxes
You just need to say, I’m not saying it he is. Hahaha
Most of the bushes I've encountered, are self lubricating...
Don’t fully tighten until it’s on the ground or kiss ya bushes goodbye
Should have bought a Patrol 🤪
Suspension bolts should be tightened with the car on the ground, or you can have premature bushing failures. Otherwise, good video
This should be common knowledge
So Graham did a video on this 4 years ago and he greased the outer part on the bushes that slides in but your saying don’t grease the outer part of the bushes, so what is it guys!!!!
So whats the bit everyone gets wrong?(as per the title)
Fit Tough Dog suspension. 😉
Did that say 4 hour installation? Takes us Canadians a miserable weekend!
I'll go rhythm
Should show how to do a dual battery jocks
Oops didn't know this vid was only for hilux.....
Watching this video makes me think that you go over the disassembly and reassembly of the front upper control arms way too fast. There's next to nothing showing it. More about commercials for specific parts. Another point is, that on my own cars at least, it is specifically said to load the car ½ with wheels on ground, so position of bushings are correct when torqued. Otherwise they may be preloaded when they shouldn't. I mention these points as I suppose some viewers of this video will watch it because they want some tips to the work at hand. Other than that, great video. Thanks for sharing.
You really need a disclaimer somewhere here. This can be so dangerous for someone that “thinks” they can do this because they can change their own oil. Heavy lifting which tough dog recommend more then 1 person for & heavily loaded springs. I like the video but some people are going to look at this, attempt it and get hurt.
If you want more then a 2" lift in an ifs vehicle, you bought the wrong 4b
Not much life left in them tyres 😅
🍺🇭🇲❤️👍👍
P
Just sas the old truck 🤦♀️
boring fell asleep

Barra patrol how long is it gonna take for you guys to show a Barra patrol
This is a toyota channel 😂
No one wanna see that trash 😂😂
That's a Jesse video not a jocko one 😂
@@richardgreer4526 I know that but I’m just saying
Spray all threads, bolts, leaf spring lower plate joints etc with carburettor cleaner, let dry or blow dry, few coats of paint, even cheap stuff. Keep the water out of them.
Having just replace the rear pipes on a mates d22 who years ago done the paint to protect like you said, I strongly disagree. Every fitting was seized, even managing to snap a bleed nipple off, when we were due to bleed the new fixings. Guess how much fun that was at the farm shed he rents, with no spare nipple or wheel cylinder!!. So the new fittings were anti-seize coated on reassembly. On my Landies I use nickel based anti-seize. It's compatible with more metals than just copper or aluminium anti-seize.
@@R.Sole88109 yeah💯, I did mean after that obvious stage 😄
