METROID Characters: Good to Evil
While not the most prominent series in Nintendo’s long line up of franchises, the Metroid games have had a very strong and dedicated fanbase ever since the release of the first game. Although originally not selling well in Japan, North Americans really perpetuated reception of the series to new heights and made Samus, Ridley, Kraid and others household names among many gamers. Even if the Metroid games haven’t had as many entries as say Mario or the Legend of Zelda, they have still built up an incredibly distinct universe filled with many recognizable characters with different morals. This makes us ask the classic question; which characters in this cast rank as the most moral and which stand out as the most downright evil?

Anthony Higgs should have been the most good. He’s the only character in the entire franchise who doesn’t have any corrupting factors and doesn’t fail the admirable standards of the franchise.
The baby Metroid did deserve the top spot for sacrificing himself so that Sami’s was able to destroy the revived Mother Brain.

I’d say Anthony Higgs should be the most good in my opinion
Raven Beak should have been higher since the only reason why he showed mercy to Samus is to slowly raise her metroid dna without her knowing, and then take it at the end to make his army while at the same time killing Samus. He had many opportunities to kill Samus, but if he did, the dna would still be in a weaker state. He caused mass genocide to an entire race, tricked Samus into coming to ZDR and left her stranded and weakened, plans on conquering the galaxy with intent for more genocide, killed off his last scientist on seeing betrayal, and was honestly close to winning as Raven Beak far overpowers Samus and was close to killing her before her metroid dna gave her an extra kick with the metroid suit. He is a man(bird) who shows little to no care about those around him, even his own daughter, and will gladly sacrifice everything for power. He should without a doubt be at least in 3rd.
Personally I’d put him as the 4th most evil. Here’s how I’d rank them 5. Gorea 4. Raven Beak 3. Dark Samus 2. Mother Brain 1. Ridley (duh)

Um, we actually do know a lot about Mother Brain's origins. She was created by the Chozo to store all of their information after they became extinct, but when they took in Samus and started raising her to be their true successor, she developed an inferiority complex and betrayed the Chozo to the Space Pirates, letting Zebes fall into their hands and becoming the Space Pirates' new leader.
Samus is practically one of the best female Nintendo characters out there, and with a good backstory of having a tragic past. She may be lethal killing her enemies, but it is understandable, since they're willing to kill her, especially Ridley. People be simping for her in the zero suit though.👱🏻♀️💙💛🔫🌌

I would make an argument for Adam's Other M depiction being a case where his age is affecting his abilities as a leader, but... Not only do we never see Adam in his prime, instead only seeing him at his lowest in Other M, but AI Adam (which is allegedly an uploaded copy of the real Adam's mind) is shown having a bit of a different relationship. Also to be fair, I only remember him specifically telling her to disable the Power Bombs citing their destructive power. It was Samus who decided that turning off everything else along with the Power Bombs was a good idea, and it's Samus's depiction that Other M butchered the hardest.
I feel like Raven Beak should have been higher. He caused the *eventual* extinction of his entire species. Committed genocide, and when his soldiers were turning into x parasites, he just used them rather than help.
I totally agree with you. They underestimated him. He tried to conquer the entire universe with an army of metroids and is indirectly responsible for most of the events that happened in the Metroid series. Metroid is The 3rd in The Holy Trinity for Nintendo as far as I'm concerned MARIO - ZELD - METROID.
Oh yeah, and Little Birdie himself probably ate Samus' parents along with others since he consumes flesh to regenerate. While surviving at the expense of other beings is a part of nature, it's unforgivable that Ridley taunted her over it. He's aware, and thus despicable.
Either Ridley or Raven Beak is the most evil. For such a dark series it's pretty straight forward in good and evil without anyone in grey
Well Ridley deserves the gold medal of evil of course for being Samus’s most prevalent and personal enemy. Then I think Mother Brain should be the 2nd most evil since she’s the leader of the Space Pirates which means she’s responsible for most of Ridley’s atrocities. Baby Metroid is easily the gold metal for good. But Raven Beak should be much closer to the bottom. He is the one who made Mother Brain and the Metroids evil. And thus should be in her spot. Also a better way to describe Gorea is that he was like the Majin Buu of Metroid; destroying planets, terrorizing the galaxy, and is considered a threat to the whole universe. Also, Adam's spot due to being the game that doesn't exist exclusive, would be agreeable if not for the canon manga. There he was portrayed far better, and it is a shame the OM director ironically made such a bastardized prequel to the fantastic S&J manga
Like I said, we may find that the OM Japanese version of him was better, but even then I doubt he'd hold a candle to the manga version.

@@samyb4566 It’s a great game. I find Pit and Palutena’s relationship to be cute together, almost as if they have a younger brother-older sister relationship. Hades is one of if not the best Nintendo main villains. And Dark pit is actually one of my favorite characters in the game

Yeah it’s a shame we don’t actually get to see him do any of the killings on screen, and we don’t see what he’s done in the game. I would love to see a cutscene where he wipes out k-2l (tho it would be pretty disturbing).

I like to imagine dark Samus is only doing the evil stuff because it's holding a grudge against Samus, I would hold a grudge too if someone broke into my cave and attempt to kill me when I did nothing wrong

So there are good and bad to evil area in Metroid. But no grey area, these hunters some are in grey area in my opinion, they been rivals to Samus until I get the good ending in mph
So many characters are missing in this one Good to Evil list. Now, I can understand not every character, mainly the one-and-done bosses seen in the Metroid series, can't make it on the list, but what about other characters like the three Bounty Hunters seen in Metroid Prime 3? You included the commanding general in that game, but you don't include them? Too be fair, I can, maybe, excuse two of them, mainly because they don't have that big of a fanbase, but what about Rundas, who was arguably the fan favorite of the Bounty Hunters in that game? Then there are the X Parasites, and the main threat in Metroid Fusion; the SA-X. Hostile parasitic life forms that quickly take over the bodies of other creatures, kill the host and then morph their bodies to become exact replicas of the original host, which also includes maintaining their memories and abilities. And the SA-X was easily the most dangerous of the X Parasites as not only does it nearly kill Samus before it could take on the form of Samus' Power Suit, but when it took over, it quickly began tracking down Samus. And considering that there are apparently 10 of them roaming the facility, these things are arguably one of the most dangerous threats the Metroid series has to offer. Other missing characters include; The Deleter, the AI of Adam, and the E.M.M.I.
I've heard about the changes to Other M's script, so maybe in the Japanese version Adam would rank more in the neutral segment. However, I do not know completely.

This was a great list. I’d to see another video on giving Nintendo Characters teams of Pokemon. Maybe it could focus on characters from The Legend of Zelda, Kirby, and Metroid. These are the pokemon that I would give Samus. Pikachu because it was her main ally in SSBB Subspace Emissary. Tentacruel because it’s similar to the Metroid Species. And Niganadel because I think it closely resembles Ridley’s color scheme and menacing looks.

I do agree with them ranking Mother Brain more evil than Dark samus after all Dark Samus has appeared less frequent than Mother Brain and was responsible of Samus parent getting killed since she order Ridley to kill Samus parents.

But I did said in Chad Peterson Metrod characters good to evil Dark Samus appear less than Mother Brain and has more of a reason to be evil since he was fused by Samus DNA than Mother Brain. Mother Brain literally is the reason on why Ridley and Samus were enemies at the beginning when Ridley kill her parent and taunts her about it all because of Mother Brain so I do agree.

Honestly, I haven't seen too much from the Metroid series. I don't know that much about it. The only one of the games I have is the newest one, and I didn't finish it. I'm probably going to go back to it and finish it on a new play through. I would like to see a new Metroid game in whatever the opposite of side scrolling is. I'm not a big fan of those kinds of games. It's mainly because the movement and battling is limited by a lot. I prefer to dodge my opponents or go at them from their sides, which isn't possible in side scrolling games.

about sylux what i believe is that he is Adams brother i mean he was left for dead by him and sylux complete arsenal is gathered from the federation meaning his suit/alt form and the Shock coil weapon systeme these all had been in work federation projects so my theory is that Ian seeks revenge for being left behind also due to adams bad personality i think he just could seek revenge on all his past team mates wich could include samus as well, also sylux like weavel knows samus (weavel was a space pirate that got ripped apart by her literally) but due to the fact that he acts quite differently around her when they met in hunters for the first time he doesnt seeks a fight he rans of and lets her fight against his ship that can mean 2 things 1. he knows how dangerous samus can be so he decides an open fight is a stupid idea or 2. maybe its sympathie cause hes ian knows about her and maybe thinks not as bad of her as his brother for example i also have my thoughts that he could be her older brother due to the fact that he like her parents were also part if the federation but i think thats not the case… all and all sylux fights her in order to get the ultimate power fails to do so. the one last thing that indicates to me that they have some sort of connection is the fact that the after credits scene of prime 3 shows his ship following her(you need 100% for that) and also and i hate myself for saying this in federation force he also makes a small appearence i mean we dont see him completely but we see his weapon arm and it looks like his shock coil so hes definetly up to something (and he once again roams freely in the federation base wich has to mean something)… so all and all i believe he is someone that samus knows already Ian Malkovich is my top candidate for this i think, i mean her brother also could make sence but pissing the federation off like that i dont think thats the case especially when he knows about samus he would open up more, and whats weird is that sylux always sticks around the federation so he knows exactly how to avoid them and he is definetly an enemy of the federation i mean we see him killing some soldiers in the intro so its obvious, the only thing that confuses me is how he acts around samus, why does he avoid fighting her? why is he following her? simply caution and seek for revenge? or is it something else? i hope Prime 4 gives us an answer to that….
