“Now that I’m grown I eat five dozen eggs” woah, woah, woah! Hold up there, Gaston. FIVE DOZEN eggs?! Now I don’t know about you, Loyal Theorists, but that seems a bit excessive. Not only do I think Gaston CAN’T eat all those eggs, but I also wonder what his consumption is doing to the local town in Beauty and the Beast, especially with the current egg crisis. To find the answers, you’ll just have to watch.

  • I had this thought years ago. The line "I need 6 eggs. That's too expensive." always makes me think it's because Gaston eats most of them so there's only a small amount left.

A little entrepreneurial for the time, but it has been done.

  • Something to take into consideration: If a hen is frightened, egg production halts for days. On several occasions, we had to deal with predators getting into the Chicken enclosure at night. Now fortunately, our hens were kept in a building at night, that locked from the outside, so only occasionally did we lose one. Still, the predators got into the fenced area they roamed during the day. After firing some shotgun blasts to take care of the problem, hens stopped laying eggs for almost 7 full days.

" I like to imagine that Gaston was just going around early in the morning, pillaging eggs from everyone in town as he slowly grown into a bigger kid and then adult. Gaston going around chicken pens, just swallowing eggs and dipping. Eventually, he just became such a barge that he uses his strength to become the greatest giga-chad in the village. And because he's such a barge, nobody wants to challenge him due to his intimidating strength. In the song, LeFou says "no one's slick as Gaston, no one's quick as Gaston" implying that Gaston is so fast at consuming the eggs so then nobody is able to capture him early on which made him become big and strong in the end.

I was really excited seeing this video!! Also, in the musical, it's the "Aristocratic Lady" who says "that's too expensive!" in Belle for SIX EGGS. An aristocrat can't afford six eggs. But quick question, we saw in the live-action that Gaston is a war hero who just returned, and I don't recall ever hearing that Gaston grew up in the little town where Belle lives... Also, Gaston's entrance in the movie is him "returning" to the village after spending time away. Wouldn't it be more probable to attribute the economic failure (and possibly the lack of population) to the plague mentioned in the live-action (People dying; less labor to meet demand) instead of Gaston's stomach?

    @southreject@southreject Жыл бұрын
    • The supply wouldn't be so easy to increase, and the increase certainly wouldn't be without cost. Eggs are not like pearls, where taking them all has no negative effect on the producer, eggs are the way that chickens reproduce. So if all the eggs are constantly in extremely high demand, then there isn't likely going to be any room in production to increase the number of chickens. More chickens also means more feed is needed, and while chickens can get by on kitchen scraps and insects, that alone is only enough to support about 1 chicken for every 2 people. They could try buying from a neighboring town, but excess chickens are normally eaten rather than sold except when they're sold to be eaten, in which case they're normally no longer able to lay eggs and are only sold alive because preserving meat is expensive.

    • This "controls that shield you" can make the problem worse. An example is California's water. It has subsidies to make water cheap and affordable. Nice, yes? But some towns turn in the taps certain times if the year and get zero water at all. This is because nobody rations the water the way they should, so suddenly entire neighborhoods wake up to zero water. The same market dynamic could potentially happen to eggs. The low price doesn't fix the supply issue. It just helps the consumer temporarily.

      @buckaroobonzai2909@buckaroobonzai2909 Жыл бұрын
    • @@buckaroobonzai2909 The controls don't make our eggs cheaper, they actually make them more expensive in general. Canada has a lot of rules for importing eggs and dairy, meaning most of the eggs and dairy we use is local. In general we don't have access to US or EU dairy and egg products, which keeps our products costing more. But in this specific case, it has meant we don't rely on the global supply chains for eggs that have run into major issues, so our prices have not really gone up.
