MCN Roadtest: Ducati Monster 1100S

MCN road tester Trevor Franklin already tested the new Ducati Monster 1100 at the launch, but how does the 1100cc V-twin powered naked fair on bumpy British roads?
Trev has tested the 1100S version on UK roads and here's some of his thoughts: "The new Ducati Monster 1100S scores highly straight from the off.
"The combo of stiff chassis and Ohlins suspension is a track day rider's dream and involuntary throttle movement gives immediate engine response."
For the full test, pick up a copy of the January 7 edition of MCN.

  • @Darkzey Hi there, for sure your Ducati needs more care than a BMW, but when you get over the 6000 rpm it is fucking nice to feel the vibration and to hear the engine roar. He forgot to say to most against on this bike, it is fucking addicting

  • okrabay: to answer your question the Ducati Monster is far more refined than a buell lighting. 1. the monster's cornering as far superior and like trevor said "effortless." The motor in the lighting is merely a souped up sportser motor. Buells were own by harley and are no longer in production. Needless to say you can get a buell for dirt cheap w/warranty but you get what you pay for in the long run

  • Very nice review sir! And letting us listen to that V-twin instead of some bloody techno music.... nicely done. Ducati now makes nice AND reliable bikes but they still aren't cheap.... which probably is for the better actually. If they were cheap everyone would buy them and then they'd be about as special as.... well.... something not as special. What if every dimwit could afford a Ferrari? Exactly...

  • At speed, that little fairing makes a significant difference. I happen to own both a Monster 900Si.e. and a ER6-f (650R in US), and like them both. They are not comparable - the Ducati has MUCH better brakes, a stronger engine, fully adjustable quality suspension and a huge aftermarket for performance improvements. Oh, and the wind protection is about the same, tiny fairing or not. My ER6f is better for touring, more economical & has a much smaller turning radius which is a Duc failing.

  • @ballindude22 HA, its not $9,000 Euros, its $9,000 POUNDS. The pound is a completely different currency, and are still worth atleast 15% more then the Euro (today anyway). England/UK does not partake in the European common currency. Hey, comprehension skills are not your thing. Understanding is just a little bit beyond you. Like Biggy said - don't feel bad, UPS is hiring.
