When he finds himself training a detachment of TOPGUN graduates for a specialized mission the likes of which no living pilot has ever seen, Maverick encounters Lt. Bradley Bradshaw (Miles Teller), call sign: “Rooster,” the son of Maverick’s late friend and Radar Intercept Officer Lt. Nick Bradshaw, aka “Goose.”
Facing an uncertain future and confronting the ghosts of his past, Maverick is drawn into a confrontation with his own deepest fears, culminating in a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those who will be chosen to fly it.

    • Despite assertions about practical filming in Top Gun: Maverick, CGI played a significant role in the dogfight scenes. Jets were initially recorded as references but were later replaced with CGI in many instances. Several aircraft featured in the final film, including the Dark Star, F14, F18s, and enemy SU57s, were entirely computer-generated. This fact was not explicitly disclosed in official documentaries or bonus materials. While many cockpit scenes were authentically filmed, CGI was used for various shot modifications, covering interiors, exteriors, canopy perspectives, and the overall environment. Filmmakers and studios downplayed the use of CGI, possibly due to contractual obligations, creating a disparity between the actual production methods and public perception. The film's nomination for an Oscar in the Best Visual Effects category attests to the extensive use of thousands of VFX shots throughout the movie.

Placing them in the jets, even as back-seaters looking at a bank of cameras, those G-forces can't be faked, and the placement gave some phenomenal shots of close "welded wing" formation flying. When the Super Hornet came on board, he introduced it to his squadron. He really liked the movie. Lots of Hollywood in it, but he get it. He loved the F14. He said it was BIG, heavy and tough. Once they switched from the Pratt and Whitney engines to the GE's it transformed the plane. In his last year he was able to get a ride in the Mojave desert in an F/A 18. He said that was incredible. • This is an exceptional movie, and it makes the original Top Gun look almost like a cartoon. This film has much more depth, and the way Maverick's character has been written is exceptional: he is still dancing out there right at the edge of what is acceptable, but he has matured emotionally -- as in the way he handles Rooster's resentment about Maverick pulling his papers to the Academy. The sense of life being much further along, of flowing away somehow, is tangible in the early bar scene with Penny, especially after he is thrown out. The scene with Iceman is very well written and exceptionally acted. The depth there is great, and Cruise deserves an Oscar nod. I have seen this film five times, and I plan to see it again tomorrow.

  • For the actors, I imagine they all had a vision for what being in a movie is like. And to realize, being cast in a Top Gun film, that Tom Cruise would expect no less than practical stunts must have sounded insane. They're actors, not fighter-jet pilots. I really am surprised none of them buckled and dropped out, possibly because of how much Tom inspired them, but also not wanting to give up on the opportunity to be in this monumental film with him. Really shows what leadership can do.

  • Nothing compares watching this for the first time. I loved it especially the flight scenes! Also can we appreciate that there is no cgi on these flight scenes bcoz those are badass! Kudos to Tom Cruise and the rest of the cast & crew and especially the best fighter pilots in the world they have recruited to this film ❤️

    • Pretty much any scene that you think is dangerous was actually done with CGI.

    • @@savonlofton They weren't even allowed to touch the controls, much less fly the damn thing. I highly doubt the military would do risky stunts in a nearly $70 million jet when they're already on the hook for 2/3 the cost of it being flown.... yeah... it's so expensive that the film studio couldn't afford to ACTUALLY fly these things, they had to rely on the military to pay for most of it.
